While we figure out whether this makes too little power from its 440cc engine, 30k+ people every month will opt for a 346cc motorcycle around the same price that makes 30% less power.

The consumer is irrational and doesn't know what it wants. Marketing tells the consumer what to want. Royal Enfield is the king of marketing.

350-500cc is a growing segment and sales here are higher than even the 200-250cc segment. Hero can sell as many of these as they want as long as their marketing team can do their job.

As long as people try competing with the RE 350s, they will keep losing. What these manufacturers need to understand that there are plenty of people who now have the 350s and they might need something to upgrade to. In terms of performance, Triumph 400s aimed at the 650s and not the 350s so they filled that slot very well.

If Hero had that upgraders market in mind, it wouldn't have stopped at where the RE 500cc engine was but that's exactly what they did.

Re: Hero Mavrick 440 launched at Rs 1.99 lakh

Do alloys cost about 15k over and above spoke wheels? The tyre cost difference shouldn't be much, since we have to factor tube cost too.

It's absurd that we cannot choose Colors on different variants. Need to pay premium just for a basic black color. Even Himalayan chose to price black color at a premium.

Re: Hero Mavrick 440 launched at Rs 1.99 lakh

There is something to buying experience & test rides in this category. This price range is not meant for functional buyers but rather an impulsive buy(heart mixed-up with head). Just the ease of just landing in a showroom near you & test ride can really make or break a brand. Hero has got the presence aspect covered.

The recent launches were botched up by Triumph(my experience is nothing to write about) and reading up on HD's x440 experience doesn't give confidence either.

I found RE's experience to be very nice & the test rides very easy and SA was trying to encourage test rides from their different style of bike & wanted me to take longer rides etc. I also saw what they were trying to do for handover. RE's are not bad mouthed for 2 reasons, 1 is that many of us have all grown up aspiring to a bullet & they sure know to make bike buying experience special.

I want Hero / Bajaj(Triumph) to do well but they have to fix their experience.

All the reviews about the engine are great & if it is similar for this bike, it can take the fight to hunter (sells 10k+ units a month).

Re: Hero Mavrick 440 launched at Rs 1.99 lakh

  • Mavrick 440 is what Xpulse 200T should have been
  • Mavrick should have alloy wheels as default, there isn't anything in this bike that demands spoke wheels
  • Exhaust: All those turns and twists needed in HD 440x for aural recall of HD bikes aren't meant for this bike style
  • What if Mavrick sells more than HD440x?
Look forward to test ride and media reviews.

Cost. Only the base variants come with spoke wheels. As per the Hero website and brochure, the mid variant comes with alloys and top variant comes with diamond-cut alloys.

Re: Hero Mavrick 440 launched at Rs 1.99 lakh

My views - Honda has gone to the extent of copying classic to sell its highness. Nobody understands what RE does right
RE's sales service is the best - you will be pushed to test ride whatever you want and how much ever you want. They know very well that the beats will align to the heart beat of any individual with the helmet on.
RE's product portfolio- there is one for anyone coming in. Maximising the J platform usage
What's not good - service is bad, which is the only downer. I never had a good experience with them.

What for competitors - RE sells on legacy feel. You can only win RE if you have legacy imbibed in your brand. Jawa and Yezdi had it but they made subtle mistakes in torque split and ground clearance. You make a mistake once, you are never out of that. Even Honda doesnt have the torque split right like classic and hence struggling on sales.
My personal view from a Bullet 500 owner - dont think Mavrick will hit the right chords. The price is also not ok. I was expecting a lower price for the base variant which doesn't even have alloys. The silencer angle and the dual shocks are way away from the market requirements!

Absolutely, the silencer angle is very weird and so are the ugly dual shocks. Doesn't go well with the overall looks which are fantastic imo.

Re: Hero Mavrick 440 launched at Rs 1.99 lakh

This Motorcycle being a 440 cc will mainly compete with the Motorcycles which are below its segment (because of its Pricing) :

- Royal Enfield Hunter
- TVS Ronin
- KTM Duke 200
- Jawa 350/Jawa 42
- Dominar 250

The Front half of the Motorcycle is more appealing. However, the Second half of the Motorcycle is not synchronized with the overall design language of this motorcycle and telling its own story of a regular commuter Motorcycle. (The similar issue with Harley Davidson X440 & TVS Ronin. In those Motorcycles also First Half is desgined well where as the second half is messed up).

In case of Maverick, The Second half is reminding me of the Hero Ambition/Achiever etc. The Silencer design/Placement of Maverick and X440 looks like borrowed from Hero Passion. Suspension is just a big eye sore for the Kidney.

Completely agree. It is like two halves of the motorcycle are designed by two different teams without any communication and joined in the middle one fine day The second half is very commuter-ish and details like this make or break a motorcycle in this aspirational category. I feel that they messed up the design proportions.

Re: Hero Mavrick 440 launched at Rs 1.99 lakh

This looks like Hero Honda Ambition (90s early 2000s bike), In fact that was a decent design for that period but seriously this in 2024

There are serious superbike owner (they will never go for this) and there are ones who aspire to be superbike owners, for the later segment, bike is all about good / premium looks, strong badge, power figures and this satisfies none. You it might be the cheapest 440cc bike but a price USP will not work in this segment.

Re: Hero Mavrick 440 launched at Rs 1.99 lakh

To be honest this bike reminds me of the Honda CB600F Hornet, albeit with its owns quirks.

I think Hero has done well and the bike should hopefully do well in the market.

There was hardly a whisper of criticism. Yet, here we are, bashing Hero for introducing a decent bike.
So why not compare it with the most recent RE with the same CC engine aka Himalyan? Why compare it to a decade old cast iron engine? I wasnt fond of RE350 either, beyond the thump it was a below ordinary bike which I would not have put my money on in a million years.

Re: Hero Mavrick 440 launched at Rs 1.99 lakh

27bhp is not the problem here. The same engine in the X440 accelerates as quickly as a turbo petrol car and can hold triple digit cruising speeds. And it sounds and feels like an RE, only faster.

Customers who want blistering performance can always opt for a Triumph, KTM or RE 450. But they will be forgoing the thump and instant torque.

This is the engine that RE will regret not having built. For all the talk of the Classic 500 being canceled because of emissions, if Hero could do it why couldn’t they? Now customers have to choose between a strong engine in half baked products like this Mavrick or the Harley, vs a slightly weak engine in RE’s classy lineup.

People will point to RE’s 650 lineup, but the weight on those bikes is another story.

The bike looks fine and complete with that backrest.
Wonder, whether it will be stock or an accessory!
