Share your real-world Electric bike / scooter range here

Hello, BHPians!

Drawing inspiration from the Real World Electric Car range thread, I thought it would be a good idea to have a Real-World Electric Two-Wheeler thread as well. With Electric Two-Wheelers seeing a faster adoption rate and tremendous growth over the past couple of years, a Real-World range estimate would be of great help to prospective buyers like me and many others as well. So I would like to humbly request Electric Two-Wheeler owners on the forum to kindly chip in and share their real-world range experiences, to help potential Two-Wheeler EV buyers make informed decisions.

Here is a format to get you started, You can add more details and explanations (range in different modes) etc as per your findings.

Format:

Make and Model:
Year of Manufacture:
Kilometers Driven:
ARAI /IDC/ Manufacturer Claimed Range:
Real-World Range:
City Usage (%):
Highway Usage (%):
Home Slow Charging (%):
Outside Fast Charging (%):
Battery Capacity:

re: Share your real-world Electric bike / scooter range here

I have been waiting for some real-life range threads on electric two-wheelers and will be more than happy to provide my experience. I am more than happy to be the first one to report the range of my electric scooter and hope there are many more to follow. We have an Ola S1 Pro Generation 1 in our family bought in November 2022, and it has run more than 19,000 km to date, safe to say it has run a whole lot in the course of a year. We went with the S1 Pro as it was the most advanced electric scooter at the time with the highest range, speed, features, and battery pack among the top 2W EVs out there. Now here are the other details:

Make and Model: OLA S1 PRO GEN 1
Year of Manufacture: 2022
Kilometers Riden: 19,000
ARAI /IDC/ Manufacturer Claimed Range: 181 km ARAI, 170 km True Range in Eco Mode as per OLA, 135 km True Range in Normal Mode as per OLA
Real-World Range: 160 km in Eco Mode, 135 km in Normal Mode
City Usage (%): 30
Highway Usage (%): 70
Home Slow Charging (%): 100
Outside Fast Charging (%): 0 (We have an Ola Hypercharger in our city but haven't tried it out yet)
Battery Capacity: 3.97 kWh

Hope this Helps!

Re: Share your real-world Electric bike / scooter range here

We have an Ola since 2022. But the usage is very minimal as we have couple of other ICE 2 wheelers and prefer this only for local runaround.

Make and Model: Ola S1pro / locked as S1
Year of Manufacture: 2022 Apr
Kilometers Driven: 6610
ARAI /IDC/ Manufacturer Claimed Range: Eco 128 / Normal 107 / Sport 89
Real-World Range: Sports- 70km
City Usage (%): 100%
Highway Usage (%): 0
Home Slow Charging (%): 100%
Outside Fast Charging (%): 0%
Battery Capacity: 3.98kw ( locked at 2.98kw at SW level )

But I personally think the range is very much impacted by the list an ev 2 wheeler carries.
Also, we use sports mode more than 80% of the time as we live in an area with lot of uphill climbs and obviously downhill . So we need to consider the regen mode too. I have set it at Default and whenever possible, use the forced regen as well, especially to slow down and while going downhill.

Re: Share your real-world Electric bike / scooter range here

I have an Ather 450x Gen 3 (August 2022). Range mostly varies with riding style, in city, I'm getting ~110km with sedate driving in warp mode. (No jerky acceleration/braking).
On highway, it gives more range at 45-55 km/hr speeds (more than the claimed), above that it falls to the claimed "True Range"

Make and Model: Ather 450x Gen 3
Year of Manufacture: 2022 August
Kilometers Driven: 3600
ARAI /IDC/ Manufacturer Claimed Range: True Range Eco 105 / Ride 85 / Sport 85 / Warp 65, ARAI 146
Real-World Range: True Range as above
City Usage (%): 95%
Highway Usage (%): 5%
Home Slow Charging (%): 90%
Outside Fast Charging (%): 10%
Battery Capacity: 3.7kWh (usable 3.24kWh)

Re: Share your real-world Electric bike / scooter range here

Make and Model: Bajaj chetak electirc, 2403
Year of Manufacture: 2020
Kilometers Driven: 30,000
ARAI /IDC/ Manufacturer Claimed Range: 95- Eco, 85- spo
Real-World Range: close to 80
City Usage (%): 90
Highway Usage (%): 10
Home Slow Charging (%):100
Outside Fast Charging (%): never even once.

As this vehicle is used only for local work, this range is very much sufficient. The performance is great as well.

Re: Share your real-world Electric bike / scooter range here

Make and Model: Ola S1 Pro
Year of Manufacture: Jan 2023
Kilometers Driven: 3211kms
ARAI /IDC/ Manufacturer Claimed Range: 170(Eco), 135(Normal), 120(Sport), 95(Hyper)
Real-World Range: 100~120kms
City Usage (%): 100%
Highway Usage (%): 0%
Home Slow Charging (%): 99%
Outside Fast Charging (%): 1%
Battery Capacity: 3.97 kWh

Range quoted above are the manufacturer claimed range:
Share your real-world Electric bike / scooter range here-quoted-range.png

Share your real-world Electric bike / scooter range here-screenshot_20240122_162657_ola-electric.png
On an average the app shows an energy consumption per km reading as 24.8 Wh/km. To put it in simple terms, this consumption is analogous to petrol/diesel in liters:
Total Capacity = 3.97 kWh = 3970 Wh
Energy consumed per km = 24.8 Wh/km
Estimated range based on consumption = 3970/24.8 = 160kms.

This range is only an average calculation based on a large amount of km driven, hence each individual 100% charge would not give 160kms. As you can see in the graph above, there are peaks in the purple line which indicate a consumption of over 40 Wh/km, which are during accelerations. Regeneration during braking does help by a very tiny bit to balance out these high consumptions over longer rides.
But I believe it is possible to extract 160kms from a single charge, but I did not aim to drive in that manner yet as my usage does not demand sedate driving to conserve charge, they are mostly short runs of under 10-15kms per day.

If you are in the market for an EV2W, try to get the largest battery pack irrespective of your usage, it will save you from the hassle of charging every now and then, and who doesn't like a lot of headroom?

Now coming to the specifics, if you are looking out to buy an Ola, I even though have not faced any issues and my experience has been rather pleasant so far, would not recommend you to buy an Ola just yet. The number of issues I come across everywhere is pathetic. There are serious issues with Ola's QC & service and they seem to take no attention of it. The above energy consumption details were posted for a better understanding of an EV's nature for your usage and not just the performance of Ola.

Re: Share your real-world Electric bike / scooter range here

I travel 50km everyday and consume 36% to 40% charge depending on how I ride. The entire ride is in Sports Mode only. In fact now I ride in sports mode only. I just updated the scooter to MoveOS4 just yesterday and it shows my efficiency as 27.9Wh/km. Don't know if it is just based on last 2 small trips yesterday plus the regular office trip today or last 30 days. Either ways it seems the claimed ranges can easily be achieved. If I take my regular ride stat of max 40% charge consumed for 50 KM ride then the efficiency is around 31.76. Will update this in 30 days. Correct me if my calculations are wrong.

Re: Share your real-world Electric bike / scooter range here

Make and Model: Pure EPluto 7G
Year of Manufacture: Jan 2019
Kilometers Driven: 3200
ARAI /IDC/ Manufacturer Claimed Range: 100 kms
Real-World Range: 30 kms after 3 yrs
City Usage (%): 100%
Highway Usage (%): 0%
Home Slow Charging (%): Initially 3-4 hours. Now 1 hour.
Outside Fast Charging (%): No
Battery Capacity: 2.4 kWh

I purchased this in Feb 2019 and wanted to use it a lot. Unfortunately Covid happened and WFH started due to which the scooter was not used at all during those times. As can be seen the battery has deteriorated a lot due to less running. It is now primarily used for market runabouts and dropping children to school. I got to know a lot about EVs in general esp the Lithium battery and their issues. I will wait for Solid State batteries to become the norm before I buy my next EV.
