Hi, I have covered approximately 16,000 kilometers without encountering any issues. The vehicle operates flawlessly in a bustling city like Mumbai. The side stand presents a significant concern, as it causes the vehicle to lean excessively.

The dream has finally hit the tarmac—I got my hands on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 yesterday! After years of dreaming about long-haul rides and epic tours, the journey officially begins. The delivery was smooth, right on the promised date at payment, though the original booking timeline had me expecting it by February-end. No hard feelings—good things take time!

I’ve kept the mods minimal for now—engine crash guard, knuckle guards, and tubeless spoke rims—just the essentials. No hardcore off-roading plans yet, so I'll add more gear as and when the need arises. First on the list? Auxiliary lights, because night rides are calling!

Went with Acko for insurance, which saved me around 5K compared to dealer options—always good to keep some cash aside for future upgrades.

Now, it's time to break in the bike with some short rides before gearing up for the bigger adventures ahead. The road is calling, and I’m ready to answer. Ride hard, ride safe! 🔥🏍️

Quick question to all Himalayan 450 owners.

Are you able to refuel in auto cut off mode? I believe there is a small rod in the neck of the tank which doesn't allow the fuel nozzle go all the way in but the attendant has to hold the nozzle without leaving it at the tank. And with this method the auto cut off doesn't work?

Did anyone face this issue? If yes what is your refuelling method? defined litres or just fill till the rod level?

That's correct. The attendant has to hold the nozzle till the end, and I pay him for whatever he has filled - to the last decimal

I go till the last ltr, but not to the brim, since if we are not riding or if the vehicle is parked on side stand, some portion of the fuel comes our through a pipe. Just waste of fuel.

The stopper bar is simply a deterrent of sorts, its helps prevent the nozzle go deep in, hence reducing early cut-off. It also helps prevent objects falling inside, i.e. rags, bits and bobs etc. It also acts an deterrent to rob fuel (to an extent). You guys haven't seen the CBR250R's fuel tank inlet. Every pump attendant I've been to simply will reel back seeing the inlet. It's always a super slow and steady fill with the CBR and manual cut off till the tank bar.

On the Himalayan, it's just a simple bar. On the CBR 250 though, you'd have a flat metal plate running in the section of ^ adding to an extremely small inlet hole. The CBR's manual states that too much insertion of the fuel nozzle can cause damage to the fuel level float as the nozzle blocks the float's movement while the tank is being filled (clever yet common sense)

So, don't bother about that small bar. Life's much easier than this when compared to other bikes. Have a habit of slow and steady fill, and cut off when the fuel touches that bar -- as simple as that.

Moreover, excess fuel over that bar/line is simply going to drain when you engage your motorcycle on its side stand (considering how horrible a lean angle the side stand of the REH450 initiates).

Slow and steady is the game here.

Where did you get these new mirrors? How is the fitment and visibility? I have experienced my stock mirrors vibrating like crazy at regular highway speeds, was considering an upgrade

I am about to hit the 10K milestone on my odometer so I thought of quickly jotting down the modifications/accessories I have done/added on my June 2024 Kamet White. But before that some points about me so that the subsequent statements make more sense:
  1. I stand at a sky scraping 164cms and weigh a well earned 72 kgs. I am 44 years of age and re-joined the world of motorcycling during the Covid years. I am a full time keyboard clacker but I do pay some attention to my fitness levels
  2. I commute in a car and the bike is used only for touring (with no pillions). I avoid off-roading if I can. I also suffer from the habit of over-packing for a trip
  3. My previous motorcycle was a J series Classic 350. Did around 14K kms on it mostly touring solo. I loved it to bits but it ran out of steam on the highways and I wanted to cover longer distances. So it was sold to a friend and I moved on to the new Himalayan.
  4. My riding group consists of an NX500 and an Interceptor 650. We typically cruise at around 120-130kmph on highways and cover 500-600 kms in a day.

  • Royal Enfield Rally Protection Kit: Sleek. Peace of mind when it comes to chassis and engine protection. My previous bike had the humongous leg guards from RE and I was now on a weight reduction mission (for the bike I mean)
  • Way2Speed tubeless conversion - I was spooked about punctures so I took my bike to Top Gear Thumpers Marathahalli soon after delivery. It cost me around 11K if my memory serves well. It is holding up well, as in there isn't a drop in pressure even when the bike is parked for days. No punctures so far.
  • Carbon Racing Windscreen + ProSpec extender - I got the RE touring screen but it was still causing buffeting on the helmet. Plus I felt it was too narrow and wind blast was coming from the sides as well. Finally with the current elaborate setup, wind blast on the helmet is greatly reduced (but not eliminated, and I do wear ear loop plugs). I have to strictly follow a look-far-ahead policy as the Pro-spec is in my line of sight.
  • Maddog ScoutX Auxiliary lights - Stock LED lights are basically DRLs. I didn't get the Alphas for 2 reasons: Didn't want to blind incoming traffic and also they need to be mounted on the tank guards due to their weight. I got them mounted on the front forks so that they don't get damaged easily in a fall. I am suffering from buyers remorse a bit as the illumination isn't really enough for night touring.
  • Grip puppies - The bike is vibey at highway speeds and these have helped control the handlebar vibes to a great extent.
  • Royal Enfield Touring Mirrors - Got these along with the bike and they are buzz free at 130 kmph. I had regular mirrors on my previous bike (which had a much smoother engine) and they were useless post 90 kmph.
  • Royal Enfield Touring Seat - The stock seat is extremely uncomfortable for touring. I then tried a detachable gel seat but it wasn't very practical. Finally moved to the touring seat from RE and it is holding up well. It has increased the seat height to 830 mm but I told myself "you need to get used to tallish seats if you want to upgrade to a bigger ADV in the future".
  • Royal Enfield Saddle Stays - I use Rynox Drystack Saddle bags to keep the weight as low as possible. Didn't get the full panniers to avoid loading the bike further.
  • Zana side stand extender - The side stand lean angle is well known. This gives me some peace of mind when parking on uneven terrain.
  • Givi E43NTL Gold Monolock Top Case - Practicality trumped aesthetics and I use this for storing smaller knick knacks (rain gear, tyre inflator etc.). Also serves a safe store for helmet (can easily accommodate a full face) when taking a break during rides. I did put some 3M reflective tape all round on it to improve visibility for traffic in my rear. Not faced any wobbles/instability at highway speeds.

Even though my purchase experience with Royal Enfield wasn’t great, the bike itself shows a lot of promise. After a seven-week wait, I finally got my Himalayan 450 in the second week of February.

I’m not a hardcore biker—just transitioning from the Honda H'ness CB350, which I rode for nearly five years. With highways becoming increasingly congested, I’m hoping to shift more of my travel from my car to the Himalayan 450. On the CB350, given my size, pushing past 100 kmph was a challenge, though it always felt stable—possibly due to its lower center of gravity. Moving to the Himalayan 450 feels like upgrading from a sedan to a tall SUV in terms of stability and ride dynamics.

I’m no expert, but I picked the Himalayan 450 based on recommendations from fellow riders, and it’s slowly growing on me. One thing I’ve really noticed is how effortlessly it cruises up to 90 kmph. However, after 90, a noticeable vibration sets in on the right-side footpeg, though the rest of the bike remains impressively smooth.

And unlike my previous rides, which never really stood out, the Himalayan 450 turns heads. Whether at traffic signals or parking lots, it definitely grabs attention.

Did you get any accessories for it? I was planning to pick up from Ryders Arena, not sure about pricing, but they seem to be in the business for quite a long time. Checked out with HTR modz, but everything that I asked for was out of stock...

One question on booking:
Does the tubeless rim come by default now? Because not seeing an option to select the tubeless rim in the configuration app. It was there earlier as an additional accessory for 11k.

Any clue?
