How many Kms done so far? Which service center was this work done at? My usual service center says that the engine sound fine, But I know its not okay.

The valve clearance /shim adjustment check is mentioned part of the 3rd free service. However, if customer doesn't demand it then am 100% sure that service center will not do it.

As such there is no specific interval listed in user manual that i remember apart from the 3rd service one.

I have done 4.5K till now and the service center fellows will always try and say that the sound is normal, it's part of single cylinder character, every bike has this and so many other excuses. However, be firm and get valve clearance / shim adjustment checked.

My service center was on Noida, however to their credit they did not refuse the shim adjustment in the 3rd service, once i told that it is part of 3rd service and i want it to be checked.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Accessory purchase : Gold Tubeless Spoked Wheels

I have been waiting since long for this OEM accessory which is a much needed upgrade indeed.

Had booked these wheels through the RE app on 04 October, the day they were launched.
Paid ₹ 12,424.00 for the set. Those who opt for these wheels with the bike now would pay only ₹11,000.00 extra.
Maybe some reverse loyalty bonus scheme from RE here

The wheels come as a complete set. The rims are fitted with hubs, spokes, new discs and even set of cush rubbers for the rear hub. Additionally, an adapter is provided which is required to be fitted onto the rear hub.

Since installation involves only swapping the old wheels with the pre-assembled tubeless wheels, it is just a matter of 1.5 to 2 hours.

Few points to keep in mind :-
  • There is no tube now. So, If the old tyre had suffered a damage or puncture, it needs to be located and repaired. Else, leakage might occur.
  • Pl check for any overnight tyre pressure losses, which might occur due to wrong fitting
  • The tyre pressure for both wheels is same as before, ie 32 psi. The tyre-wallah might recommend otherwise, please disregard.
  • As long as possible, go for machine fitting to avoid any damage to the edges which manual removal/fitting causes at times.
  • The new wheels have a raised edge and tyre bead seats on the inside. Make sure while fitting tyre that the beads and bead seat are aligned properly, especially if done manually.
  • These tyres have directional treads, hence the tyre direction marked with arrow on the walls to be fitted correctly, else it might cause loss of grip
.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Today I reached out to Royal Enfield customer care to enquire about tubeless spoked wheels and RE customer care informed me that they have stopped taking booking for the same. Quoting part of the email. I think this is kind of absurd. RE must have anticipated the approximate number of requests that they would get based off the number of bikes sold.

We thank you for your interest in wire-spoked-tubeless wheels for your Himalayan motorcycle. Owing to the overwhelming response to the wire-spoked tubeless wheels, we are forced to temporarily stop the bookings for the accessory. We will re-initiate the bookings for the wire-spoked tubeless wheels shortly.

New bookings were stopped within the first 15 days itself IIRC. I booked my wheels on day 1 (Oct 2) i think and got my wheels 29th nov. So, looks like they have quite a backlog they want to clear before accepting new booking.

Nope. MotorInc explained this well recently- There is a limitation on the number of such parts that can be imported. GOI regulations.

Same reason why the more popular RE bikes like the Classic 350 won't be switching over to tubeless spoke wheels soon - till one of these vendors start manufacturing those wheels in India.

Ah, so hopefully this strong demand should motivate local manufacturing.

I guess it's probably not that easy. I'm not sure about this, but I feel there might be patents or royalties involved in the tubeless rim manufacturing process. This is my hunch after looking at how most manufactures are sticking to the same OEMs when it comes to tubeless spokes.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Just completed an awesome long ride from Chennai to Hyderabad and back! It was roughly 700km each way, and I thought I'd share some details of the trip.

The onward journey was split into two days. The first day covered around 450km, and the remaining 250km were tackled the following day. The return journey, however, was done in a single stretch. After this experience, I'm pretty confident that my bike could easily handle 1000km in a single day, provided the rider takes adequate breaks, of course.

One thing I definitely learned is the importance of proper riding gear. Not having a riding jacket meant I was battling wind resistance the entire time, which definitely added to the fatigue. Also, the weight of my helmet (RE SpeedX) started to cause some neck pain after a while. On a positive note, my recently purchased ViaTerra Grid 3 gloves performed wonderfully. They effectively dampened the handlebar vibrations I had previously mentioned in another post, which made a huge difference in comfort.

I found that a cruising speed of 80-90kmph was the sweet spot for me on the highways. I managed to get close to 34kmpl, although the bike's display showed a slightly higher figure, around 36kmpl. Pushing beyond 95kmph introduced a noticeable change in the engine note and some extra buzzing from the handlebars. To avoid getting too tired, I made sure to take breaks every 100-150km. The return journey was completed in about 13 hours, including breakfast and lunch stops. Couple of days in between gave me time to regenerate strength and start back toward journey.

I wasn't riding solo on this trip. A friend joined me on his CB350, which performed admirably throughout the entire journey. This was the longest ride either of us had ever undertaken. This trip was a big step up from my solo Chennai-Bangalore ride (325km) a month ago, which gave me the confidence to attempt this longer journey. It was a fantastic experience, and I'm already looking forward to planning the next one!

Got my tubeless rims fitted yesterday. Cost me 500 labor + 200 for tyre removal/fitting machine. Will do a long ride now to check if the bike pulls either side. I had booked the rims online on October 7th.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Has anyone run into the "Fuel Level Sensor Failed" issue on their Himmy?

I came across this video from a guy who faced this issue twice and an RE service centre pinpointed to be related to the instrumental console. Apparently, RE is denying to replace it under warranty because it has a screen protector installed and there are some scratches on the console.

As someone who's looking at the Himmy as a potential ADV upgrade, RE's attitude is concerning to me. Do they expect the "Himalayan", an adventure motorcycle built for "all roads and no roads" according to their marketing material, not to ever get scratched?

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

This is not what we expect from a company like Royal Enfield. Their customer support needs to be improved greatly if they want to lead the game.

This is the current situation of my bike. The engine sounds like this. Just 2500KM. Service center says its within tolerance and continue running.

I'm not a Royal Enfield expert but does this engine sound healthy to you?
