Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

FuelX pro with way2speed filter vs FuelX pro with stock air filter:

By now, I've removed the Himalayan 452 fuel tank plenty of times. I've become an expert at removing it and putting it back. So, I got the chance to switch between the two air filters(stock vs way2speed) and fuel settings to play around with.

My observations:
Note-these are my own observations and purely my own
opinions.

On way2speed airfilter:
The fuelX pro couldn't make use of the way2speed airfilter. I felt the lack of adaption between the two made the bike feel like it's throttled at setting 8 in fuelX pro.

On stock airfilter:
The fuelX pro performed it's best on the stock sir filter. Setting 3 felt like setting 3 and and 8 felt like setting 8. Setting 3 was felt best at City speeds, whereas 8 felt best on highways. But with stock air filter.

Conclusion:

This is one bike where I would keep the stock airfilter over the free flow one.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

But you haven't tried the BMC . And, mine has the BMC. 20% better than stock, I might say. Try that once.

What’s the range you got on a tankful of gas? I get around 380-400 km on my 390 at highway cruising speeds.

This is supposed to be The Himalayan's territory. And it came out in flying colours. Just soaks all the bumps and you can ride at steady 35-40kmph. Impressed!
It used to be a beautiful road but RVNL and its contractors have broken this road beyond recognition with their overloaded trucks. At the end of last year they gave a contract for strengthening of 14 km section of this road; don't know when the work will be completed.

Yes it is a proper trail road now, so much so that we have been taking Pauri - Srinagar - Devprayag route for the last 2 years because we don't want to damage our Creta. Nice to see you got some fun out of it.

A little coincidence here. The picture in my profile was taken around the same area, headed in the same direction, about some 15 years ago, when the road was being widened from barely a single lane to 1.5 lane.

Never measured the range with tankful method and all specifically, Just went by the Dash readings . But will try to check in the next ride and update.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review-img_20240618_165202.jpg
896 Kms. That is what I rode over 6 days. 2 days within Delhi and rest of the 4 days in the hills.

Since everybody has captured the +ves, I hence will focus on the things that dont work. And here they are:
  1. TFT Navigation through RE App - Its a innovative thing, but also requires the phone screen to be on. Imagine you are on a 500 Km ride and you are taking breaks every 2 hours. Phone screen being on for those hours will not only heat up the phone but also gobble up the battery.
  2. Charging outlet - 1 C-Charging port. Really ?
  3. Side stand - The angled side stand is a disaster especially in the hills. Load up 2 panniers and a tailbag and lifting it up to riding position from a side stand becomes a task. That is when you feel the whole 200kgs and more of the bike.
  4. Saddle height of 830mm - I'm 162Cms and my both feet touch the groundon half foot basis on the Tiger 800. With 450 it tip toes with both feet simultaneously when the bike is without luggage. With luggage and with load dynamics changed, its a different story. I think the bent side stand has been done to ease ingress, egress for shorter people like me, but I feel it doesn't work and should be rather straight.
  5. Tubed tyres - Get a puncture in the hills and then you will know. One tyre fellow just couldn't get the tyres off. Had to go to an experienced tyre fellow with right tools.

I'll choose the Himalayan 450 because:
  1. Lighter than Tiger and in bad terrain every single kg matters
  2. Its a RE. There is a service center in every city, town, mofussil and some top visited location. You are assured of service everywhere
  3. Cost of repairs.
  4. I personally feel that the Himalayan 450 is better built to take on abuse on bad terrain.
  5. 4 Lacs vs 15 Lacs

Coming down from Pauri side to Devprayag was more fun. Managing brakes while back sliding thru dust/ loose soil.

But I had the most fun between Rishikesh and Devprayag on both sides. The wide road and twisties allow you to really lean on some of the long corner. I was grinning ear to ear!

Coming down to the Half a Million Rupee question, will I buy it ? I loved my 6 days with it, but with its drawbacks, I think, its not straightforward yes. So I will wait and watch.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Hi All,
Folks from Bangalore - please help me with your suggestions and inputs/

Looking to book the bike, got below quote from Acclaim, YLK:

Ex-sh: 289,000
Insurance with Zero Dep: 26.462
RTO: 60,467
Extended warranty & RSA: 7199
On Road: 3,83,128

2 questions:
1 - Has roadtax changed from 20%? I'm aware HSRP issuing is some 500/700 change
2 - Is there any room for a better buy?

The RTO includes Roadtax, HSRP and misc.
You can bargain for some accessories with the sales people at the time of booking.
Only way to reduce cost is to go with another insurance provider. You can get zero dep insurance from Acko or Digit etc that will be much lower.

An open face helmet is generally given with every bike.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Slightly noob question:

It is my understanding that equipment is same across all the 4 colour options. Then why is Hanle Black 15K more expensive than base.

I don't know about that, but I think that particular rim set is only for that color. Cost for the rim color too must be inclusive of the price, I guess.
