Re: Hero to launch Harley-Davidson X440-based bike in January 2024

Is it me or that motorcycle is genuinely looking sad The side profile shots with slightly downward sloping headlamp cluster and front on look is a tad underwhelming for its size.

Re: Hero to launch Harley-Davidson X440-based bike in January 2024

I have a feeling this bike will disappear without a trace. I find this launch to be pointless. Why do you need two bikes in the same segment which are literally the same bike with minimum differentiation? AFAIK, (please correct me if I am wrong)even the X440 would be sold in some Premia dealerships. Tell me one reason why someone would pick this over the X440.

Hero is missing opportunities again and again. First they did it by launching the Karizma with a 210cc motor and now this.

People want your 400cc Xpulse Hero, not a bike which suffers from an identity crisis.

It looks like Ronin to me in some angles and CB300 in some.

Re: Hero to launch Harley-Davidson X440-based bike in January 2024

The cousin for Harley-Davidson X440

Hero Mavrick 440 was unveiled in India at Hero World 2024 a few hours ago.

It is based on the Harley-Davidson X440 with a power-roadster design philosophy to be available for booking from February 2024.

The Mavrick was co-developed in association with Harley-Davidson and is based on the X440 roadster. Available in five colour options, across variants, dealerships will accept bookings from February 2024 with deliveries beginning April 2024.

Harley-Davidson X440 and Mavrick 440 share the same engine and trellis frame. Yet it looks drastically different and may not appeal to those who loved the X440 design derived from Harley-Davidson XR1200.

With the launch of Mavrick 440 the buyers of X440 might also breathe a sigh of relief as the doubt for after-sales-service and parts might get resolved. Hopefully, H-D's franchising strategy with Hero and Chinese QJ Motors (for China market) is a long-term strategy. I doubt if H-D will disappear overnight ---since Hero has engaged so much resources, it is likely a tight, well-planned partnership.

Some photos.

Re: Hero to launch Harley-Davidson X440-based bike in January 2024

I think Hero has missed a great opportunity here.

They should have launched a more substantial looking motorcycle. This looks too small and generic (it looks similar to Dominar, CB300 and Ronin) to make a difference in my opinion.

The pricing will be key here. The bike has decent power and can compete with most 300-350cc options out there as I imagine the engine will be tuned differently to bring more urgency.

At ~2L ex showroom, it can also compete with the Triumph 400 as it can provide 90% of the riding experience at a competitive price

There is also the fastest selling Enfield to compete with -- the Enfield Hunter 350. Maybe Mavrick 440 can be an option against Hunter for some.

People don't always buy a motorcycle based on a tag such as 'roadster' or 'cruiser' or 'commuter'. Sometimes, there are specs, features, pricing, opportunity mix that give one model the edge over the other.

Also, unlike X440, the Hero Mavrick is expected to have more variants and color options--- similar to what Enfield attempts to do with its models.

If Harley-Davidson and Hero are only testing the waters, then they have already got a nice welcome from a lot many people. Hopefully, we will see better and more aesthetically engaging motorcycles from them.

Re: Hero to launch Harley-Davidson X440-based bike in January 2024

I see a well sculpted metal tank! Looks substantial to my eyes. Approachable is the key for Hero with its reach across the nation.

On a side note, how/why did Hero register the bikes in MH 12/14/09 Pune/Pimpri-Chinchwad/Kolhapur instead of RJ?

Some of the commercials are shot at Tamhini ghat near Pune!

Re: Hero to launch Harley-Davidson X440-based bike in January 2024

Design is definitely polarizing, but I feel sorry for the manufacturers here. Somehow, bikes like this, the Ronin and the Hunter appear puny with the rider on it. Though the on paper dimensions suggest otherwise.

I guess it takes some skill to make the bikes appear larger than they are.

Re: Hero to launch Harley-Davidson X440-based bike in January 2024

The bike looks simple and good with a ground floor pillon seat. I may need to stretch my budget. Almost deciced on Aerox but with the 1st floor pillon seat and no proper grab rail, I ruled it out. Wish they could have done something better in the rear. Waiting for the prices... Will take a test ride and decide.

Re: Hero to launch Harley-Davidson X440-based bike in January 2024

I like the looks of the bike except the dual shocks. While it looked acceptable in the X440, I feel this one will look way better with a mono shock. From the few online videos, I can't make out whether this has or lack road presence. But this definitely appears to be bigger than the Hunter. My guess is that they are going to price this 30K cheaper than the X440 and on par with the Honda CB350.

Re: Hero to launch Harley-Davidson X440-based bike in January 2024

I would like to put forth my opinion in the most civil and polite way as possible.

This is what would happen if you left a TVS Ronin and a Harley Davidson X440 were left to their privacy in a nice swanky hotel suite!

Jokes apart, that nice sculpted tank reminds me of the Hunk's muscular tank. I've found myself drooling over the Hunk's ever-masculine design in my childhood, and I still do. But growing up makes you see things from a certain point of view with a filter of common sense attached to it.

This design BEGS for a nice DOHC unit! I wanted to originally post this yesterday itself, but I just decided to wait and see how it entirely comes out. Upsize the Karizma's liquid-cooled 210cc mill, plonk it in this, and position it against the CB300R! One stone and 2 birds killed! How hard would that be? That seat section could be a nice split arrangement as seen on that measly Xtreme 125R. This bike could have been a lot more better but God knows why everyone is hell bent on cutting RE's throat with undercut products. USD is a sore omission on this one, would've just increased the macho image that this bike is partly radiating. I get the fact that this is a budget-sensitive segment, oil-cooled engines make sense for the ease of maintenance and all, but with just a bit more, you could have the modernity of a liquid cooled engine. It always looks futuristic and performs better, no matter where you use it. These liquid cooled engines are always versatile. One engine can be shared among various platforms, no matter the body style.

There is always a single point that needs to be understood. No matter how many bikes you launch in the market that are mechanically light-years ahead of a Classic 350, YOU SIMPLY CANNOT JUST BEAT IT AND THINK OF GETTING AWAY WITH IT. That will never just happen. This would be as hard as trying to knock Splendor off its high selling position in the commuter market. Would it happen? Nope. Is it possible? Not until you brainwash the entire Indian population overnight.

Re: Hero to launch Harley-Davidson X440-based bike in January 2024

The Classic 350 has an inexplicable unreasonable hold on the Indian market. It sells way more than much much much better bikes; you can phrase it anyway you want. Dumb customers? Unshakable RE brand image? Excellent RE marketing? Eicher Motors’ good luck? Siddharth Lal’s genius? However you want to put it there’s simply no bike that can beat Classic 350 in terms of sales, especially this half cooked mediocre pasta i.e. Mavrick 440.

If they don’t price it REALLY competitively, it’s DOA, almost like “Harley” X440. I suspect it will sell even less than “Harley” X440. Hero has invested a lot in their premium products and R&D for the same but their strategy is all over the place, god knows what they are doing diluting existing brands (Karizma) and trying to create new brands half-heartedly.

The front end of the bike looks quite alright, but the read end is a total disappointment.
