Triumph Speed 400-based Thruxton 400 in the works

Triumph could soon introduce a third model to its 400cc range of bikes. The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X are likely to be joined by the Thruxton 400.

Triumph's new 400cc cafe racer-style bike was recently spotted testing on public roads. Spy images reveal a bubble-type fairing similar to the Thruxton big bike and a round headlamp. It also has clip-on handlebars, while the rest of the bike looks identical to its sibling, the Speed 400.

The Thruxton 400 is expected to share the same chassis and suspension as the roadster. The test bike is equipped with an upside-down front fork and a monoshock at the rear. It has disc brakes at both ends and rides on alloy wheels.

The Thruxton 400 will also share its engine with the Speed 400. The 398.15cc, single-cylinder unit puts out 39.5 BHP and 37.5 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox via a torque-assist clutch.

Whoa!! Is this the spiritual successor to the Pulsar 220 we've been waiting for long enough?! Looks amazing!

This is serious stuff man!

The racing cowl is not sufficiently rounded and closer integrated to the bike on first look though to be a period perfect retro replica.

But it is so yummy either way.

Cheers, Doc

Don't think it is a mini Thruxton. That front end is taken directly off a Speed Triple RR.

Looks lovely to my eyes. Would look stunning with classic dual tone combinations.

Are the footpegs slightly rearset?

On similar lines, check out this video:

My expectations from Triumph with Thruxton 400,
Apart from the usual updates required in this style:
  • they update the speedo console to twin pod style (like we have on RE GT650, Benelli Imperiale 400)
  • more paint schemes, esp a chrome one (like MrClean on RE GT650)
  • tubeless spoke wheels
  • and again price this perfectly like Speed400 (for instance, they can price this near about Scrambler400X)

MODS: Can you please merge this with my post above, I am unable to do so

Another highlight:
Gujarat on-road approx prices: RE GT650 starts from ~3.56L (and goes uptil 3.83L), whereas Triumph Scrambler 400X is ~2.92L.

So, if Triumph doesn't price their Thruxton400 correctly then there is high chance that for similar form factor people might tip towards GT650 by spending about 0.6-1L extra for an extra cylinder and better network reach of RE and lots of OEM & after market customization options!

MODS: Can you please merge this with my above 2 posts, I am unable to do so

Something is being launched on 17th Sept.
Is it Thruxton?
