Re: Yamaha R3 & MT-03 to be launched by mid-December 2023

With this kind of pricing and the overall strategy related to Indian market, all i can say is " Yamaha please don't bother"
You could very well shut the shop and call it a day and believe me no body would even say sorry.

Re: Yamaha R3 & MT-03 to be launched by mid-December 2023

Man, this is some clown management from Yamaha. Do they even know the term "benchmarking"? If they already knew the prices would be this steep, why even bother bringing in the CBU units here? Just take a year or two, build it here ground up and price sensibly. This just looks like stock clearance, and they won't even bother about the sales figures of these two.

Not unexpected unfortunately And these are too poorly equipped by modern 300-400 standards. Not just the electronics but mechanically as well. Spindly 37mm USD forks with not even preload adjustability, no slip and assist clutch, axially mounted two piston caliper etc.

This makes the Aprilia vfm in comparison. Gonna be very hard to sell at this price. Folks who want electronics and features would just go for the rc390, the ones who want an occasional track bike should just stick with the Aprilia and if you want that Japanese refined twin cylinder with no bells and whistles, the ninja is over a lakh cheaper.

Yamaha might as well have not bothered with this whole exercise. Guaranteed to be Dead on Arrival at that price for what little it offers. Aprilia folks are going to be rubbing their hands looking at this strategic disaster from team blue.

Re: Yamaha R3 & MT-03 to be launched by mid-December 2023

This went from "The dark side of Japan" to "the dark side of Indian showrooms" real quick with those prices. I'm fully expecting dealer discounts to clear stocks within the next couple of months. Honda already showed what would happen and yet Yamaha has chosen to follow the same act.

Re: Yamaha R3 & MT-03 to be launched by mid-December 2023

To unleash this price right after Aprilia has brought a more powerful, brand-new, better equipped, more competent and way better looking RS457 at 4.1 ex-showroom needs some confidence.

This is the kind of confidence I need in my life

People still considering the R3, wait it out for 6 months, a huge discount is unavoidable to clear their stocks.

Heard from a Yamaha dealer in south bangalore that they expect to get only 2 bikes per lot. That is ZX4R levels of volume. I don't expect them to discount it considering such low volumes. To think Yamaha began testing R7 at MMRT early this year, only for them to manage to launch their outdated 300 twins at such a laughable price. Shame really. They would have fared better by launching the R7 considering Honda hasn't sold their 650s for a couple years now and how drab the Kawasaki 650s are.

So true. Lets be honest, only enthusiasts were going to buy this, and they know all about the bike already. Yamaha need not have spent a single yen marketing this, they might as well have allocated the marketing budget into discounts if they planned on selling only tens of these.

Fans will be happy that faired version is only 5k more than street. Fans only pricing so everyone else will ignore these.

Re: Yamaha R3 & MT-03 to be launched by mid-December 2023

Damn Yamaha India is headed by some buffoons. And I thought Aprilia was expensive, I love Japanese engineering especially in motorbikes but this is just plain hilarious. Aprilia must be grinning from ear to ear.

Who thought Japanese could make Italians look cheap?

Re: Yamaha R3 & MT-03 to be launched by mid-December 2023

Well seems like Yamaha India doesn’t even consider the Aprilia RS a competitor going by the prices nor it seems like they are targeting any serious volumes going the CBU route.
Funnily enough Yamaha India is going the same route as their Motogp team and losing it to the Italians all the way.

Re: Yamaha R3 & MT-03 to be launched by mid-December 2023

From my understanding, pricing is not at all encouraging. On the other hand if Aprilia can improve service quality and network, RS457 has very good future in India. Except "Japanese reliability" aspect, I do not see any wow factor with R3 and MT03.

Re: Yamaha R3 & MT-03 to be launched by mid-December 2023

This is merely a stock clearance exercise like we got some models from other brands previously. There is a new redesigned R3 due in an year(don't be surprised if its an R4). This is why they made it CBU instead of CKD and numbers for India are really minimal this time around. Common, 5.8-6L on road BLR for the R3? It was 2L cheaper the last time and the only meaningful thing it gained is the KYB USD forks. RS457 can have this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some hardcore Yamaha fanboys would be there to buy this just like any other brands, but the next update would come to India as CKD units.

Re: Yamaha R3 & MT-03 to be launched by mid-December 2023

I liked the looks of the MT03, but now this pricing is very optimistic by Yamaha. It has no features, which even smaller MT bikes get. The MT125 now has a TFT display, and our indian MT15 has slipper clutch, traction control etc.

The R3 looks just bad, the last gen looked good and they messed this one up.
