2024 Honda NX500 unveiled

NX means ‘New X-over’ and the bike will replace the CB500X in the Honda lineup!

Honda’s A2-compatible mini-adventurer gets a new name – and even more rugged style – for 24YM. Power and torque remain the same for the 471cc engine – at 35kW and 43Nm – while an ECU update improves acceleration feel and Honda Selectable Torque Control is now standard.

New wheels save 1.5kg of unsprung weight, adding to an overall weight loss of 3kg, and are matched by revised settings for the 41mm Showa SFF-BP USD forks and rear shock. Dual discs up front are worked by two piston calipers.

A brand-new LED headlight opens up better visibility at night while a new 5-inch TFT screen offers Honda RoadSync smartphone connectivity, operated by a simplified and backlit 4-way toggle switch.

The 24YM NX500 will be available in the following colour options:
  • Grand Prix Red
  • Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic
  • Pearl Horizon White

Key Features

Styling & Equipment
  • Sharp new adventure style incorporates aerodynamics to improve stability at speed
  • New LED headlight and taillight
  • New 5-inch full colour TFT screen includes Honda RoadSync connectivity for on-screen turn-by-turn navigation and access to other smartphone functions
  • New, simplified left hand switchgear easy to use and backlit for night-time

Chassis
  • 41mm Showa Separate Function Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks and rear shock feature fine-tuned settings
  • New, lighter weight wheels
  • Dual 296mm discs, Nissin axial mount two piston calipers

Engine
  • Lively twin-cylinder powerplant now equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)
  • New PGM-FI settings improve low-rpm acceleration and power delivery across the rev-range
  • Assist/slipper clutch eases upshifts and manages rear wheel through downshifts

The design language on this looks really lovely - nicer than the CB500X Honda was selling here last couple of years.

Re: 2024 Honda NX500 unveiled

The front view looks smashing along with the digital console! Not a fan of the rear though, and that spoils the view from the sides. But, over all seems like a fun to ride bike, like any Honda.

Now, I'll just be waiting for Honda to announce the pricing, launch type (CBU or CKD) in India and spoil the party for everyone with high hopes, just like Honda always does. :P

The vehicle looks amazing all around. All that remains is too see what Honda does, do they continue with CB500X or bring this NX500.

NX500 is the updated CB500X - the old moniker has been dropped for 2024. From the press release -

For 24YM Honda’s equation for this bike is improving, but not changing in its essence. The name is new, however. The NX500 is carving out its own identity, with aggressively redesigned styling, premium technology and a variety of detail upgrades that are sure to continue its journey into the hearts and minds of European riders.

Oh now I get it, I thought it was just for the European market not world-wide, but if this is the case we can kiss the rumors of CKD or Made in India NX500 (CB500X) Good Bye.

I swear, I always thought the old CB500x was the best thing for pure touring and some off-roading. Dreamed of getting that as a middle-weight bike. While this looks great, anything above 6 L ex-showroom is going to kill this thing dead. The CB500x was 6700 pounds in the UK (OTR), and 6.8L OTR here, if I'm not wrong. The Transalp 750 is 9800 pounds in the UK, and 11 L in India. Going by that, this is 6800 pounds OTR in the UK, so it could be 6.9 L or thereabouts on road on the lower side, to 7.8 L on the higher side.

At 196 kilos, I would pick the 390 Adventure at any price!

Can you share what makes you believe that this is a superior motorcycle?

I ride a DR650 and the low weight is the key factor for 90% of its fun to ride goodness! Suzuki builds phenomenal engines is like a given. For Dual Sport/ADV motorcycles, weight is 90% of the deal IMO.

Couldn't agree more. I've said it multiple times myself. Elsewhere.

Weight, nimbleness and handling is everything when the fatigue starts settling in on a multi day tour in harsh terrain.

You want a bike you can happily muscle here and there and over with ease. Not a tank carrying half your household strapped on under you.

Cheers, Doc

I think you got me wrong here.

I own the 390 ADV since almost 4 years now.

I did not say NX500 > 390 ADV.

I meant that this looks like a good proposition as a quality upgrade, for a big bike feel. No doubt the 390 ADV will run circles around the NX500.

Neither the KTM Adventure nor this bike are true off road machines. They are best suited for long distance touring and the occasional off road jaunt. In that regard the 20 kg weight difference won't make a big issue and the much better low end torque of the Honda will make it a lot easier to ride especially in traffic.

I had a big problem with the KTM Adventure 390 in slow-moving traffic as the low end torque was very poor.
