According to a media report, Bajaj Auto is developing a 110cc motorcycle that can run on petrol and CNG.



Bajaj’s upcoming CNG-powered bike is known internally as the Bruzer E101, but the production version could adopt the ‘Platina’ name. The report claims that a few prototypes of the CNG bike have been built and that it is in its final stages of development.

The Bruzer E101 CNG bike is rumoured to go on sale in the next 6-12 months. Initially, the bike could be manufactured at Bajaj’s Aurangabad plant and eventually at the Pant Nagar facility as well. It is said that the company had planned to produce around 1-1.2 lakh units per annum, but has now revised its production plan to build 2 lakh units per year.

Bajaj has neither denied nor confirmed these reports. Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto said, “We certainly want to extend this capability to cover two-wheelers which is not easy due to space, size and usage differences. We definitely want to expand the share of 'cleaner fuels' in our portfolio which includes the full spectrum of EV, ethanol, LPG and CNG. You can be sure of this in both 2WS and 3Ws - this alignment with society and government is very important for us.”

I can't help but think about literally riding with a bomb between your legs. I know these will be safety tested, but CNG being more combustible (read explode) than petrol makes me worried, especially during an accident!

Reminds me of the year when TVS had toyed with this idea on their TVS Spectra scooter. It had a small CNG tank fitting in the under seat storage area. They had this displayed at one of the Auto Expo 's and seems it was production ready - but never went into Production.

Frankly, I like the idea of having a CNG option on a two wheeler. But when we talk about practicality, especially weight management and safety, it is something to be seriously considered. One cannot prioritize form or function , there has to be a significant balance between both.

I am never a fan of dual-fuel vehicles. Its either petrol or electric. Most vehicles that I have seen, which had dual fuel like lpg+petrol or petrol+cng, have either unwanted complications in engineering or designed keeping in mind only lower running costs at the expense of reduced longevity of the engine and core components like injectors, throttle body etc.

If this becomes a hit, we might see a surge of aftermarket cng fitters for larger tank bikes.

Bajaj Auto's CNG-powered bike spotted testing

Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj recently announced the company's plans to introduce a CNG-powered motorcycle in the Indian market. Now, a test mule of what is believed to be the new CNG bike has been spotted testing.



The spy images suggest that Bajaj Auto's upcoming CNG bike could be aimed at the commuter segment. It has a flat, single-piece seat and an enclosed chain drive.

The bike is equipped with a telescopic fork at the front and has a mono-shock rear suspension. It rides on alloy wheels and has a disc brake at the front.

According to reports, the CNG-powered bike could use a 110cc or 125cc single-cylinder engine. Bajaj said that with the CNG-powered motorcycle, Bajaj should be able to cut down on operating and fuel costs by up to 50-65%.

Reports suggest that the project is internally known as 'Bruzer E101'. It is expected to go on sale in the next quarter.

Bajaj Auto's first CNG bike to be launched in June 2024

Bajaj Auto is all set to launch its much-hyped CNG-powered bike in the Indian market in June. This was recently announced by Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto.



Bajaj is said to be developing a range of CNG-powered motorcycles aimed at mileage-conscious customers. However, the bikes will be priced higher than their corresponding petrol versions.

Technical details of the CNG-powered bike are still under wraps. However, media reports suggest that the project is internally known as the Bruzer E101. It is rumoured to use a 110cc engine.

The new CNG-powered bike is likely to be manufactured at the brand's Aurangabad and Pant Nagar plants. The bike maker is said to have a production plan to build 2 lakh units per annum.

I am very curious about their engineering for the weight management and safety part. Also wondering what India's prevailing regulations say about CNG for two wheelers.

For a bike which gives close to 50/60 kmpl, a petrol running cost of Rs.2 per km could be affordable to a higher percentage of commuters and use cases.
Not sure where the CNG will fit in and availability of the fuel across metros and Tier 2, 3 cities in India. Will be watching this gamble from Bajaj.

Wonder what will be the CNG capacity of the fuel tank, also whether it will be a switchable bi-fuel bike? As per calculations, even with a large tank around 15 L (water equivalent) will be able to store 2.5-3 kg CNG that too with 200-220 bar pressure available at 'online' CNG stations. Expected range will be max 100-120 km which is not very good considering existing Platina has a 11 L tank good enough for 400+ kms.

Also, CNG tanks require integrity testing every 2-3 years from an approved and authorised testing agency, which will be another headache for the owner of such bikes, provided they don't damage these tanks earlier due to a fall.

An unanswered question mark (?) is the safety aspect with the CNG tank fitted on an entry level of the two wheeler. Bajaj is though talking big about leadership in the bike entry level segment, where HeroMotoCorp leads as of now. The CNG powered bike will also have a petrol tank. Bajaj plans to fit the CNG fuel tank below the seat. It will be launched between April and June 2024 and is expected to get a price tag of about Rs 80,000 (ex-showroom).

Bajaj CNG bike technical details revealed via design blueprints

Bajaj Auto is gearing up to launch a CNG-powered motorcycle in India next month. While the company hasn’t shared any information yet, leaked design blueprints have revealed new technical details of the bike.



As per the leaked images, Bajaj Auto’s CNG motorcycle will be based on a double cradle frame. The petrol tank appears to have been reshaped to make space for the CNG tank positioned under the seat.



The bike has a ‘sloper engine’ with the cylinder sitting almost parallel to the rear swingarm. This configuration helps liberate space for all the fuel systems and other ancillaries. The third image shows the tubular chassis of the CNG bike. It shows additional braces and a subframe that holds the CNG tank.



Reports suggest that the upcoming Bajaj CNG bike will use a 110cc single-cylinder engine. The company claims that it should be able to cut down on operating and fuel costs by up to 50-65%.

Bajaj CNG bike launch postponed to July 17

Bajaj Auto plans to launch its first CNG-powered motorcycle in the Indian market. The bike was initially expected to go on sale later this month, however, according to Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, the launch has now been postponed to July 17.



Sharma also revealed that the upcoming CNG bike will be positioned in the entry-level segment. It has been designed to cater to cost-conscious buyers.

The Bajaj CNG bike is likely to be based on a double cradle frame and could be powered by a ‘sloper engine’. While the exact technical details of the engine are yet to be revealed, Sharma said that the performance is expected to be in the 110-150cc ballpark.

However, low running costs would be the main USP of the CNG bike. The company claims that it should be able to cut down on operating and fuel costs by up to 50-65%.
