Bajaj Sunny Electric could be in the works; spied testing

According to a media report, Bajaj could bring back the Sunny. But this time, instead of a 60cc engine, it will use an electric powertrain.

The latest spy images suggest that the Sunny Electric is already in its prototype stage. The test mule looks identical to the original, but look closer and you will notice a hub-mounted motor in the rear. The report states that it could be based on the Yulu platform.

The Sunny EV prototype has the same compact and simple bodywork with a round headlamp and a rectangular tail lamp unit. It is equipped with a trailing-arm front suspension, steel wheels and drum brakes. Note that the battery pack is located on the floorboard where the spare tyre used to sit.

Looking at the spy image, it seems the Sunny EV project is in an early stage of development. It has the potential to be an affordable and convenient city runabout. It would be interesting to see if Bajaj puts it into production.

I doubt if this specific vehicle is a new design. It looks like they have plonked an electric motor assembly in a '96 Sunny and covered it with camo skin to keep the paps excited. LOL, those mad lads at Bajaj.

Edit: Only the mirrors seem different, not the circular ones as before.

Nostalgic reading about the Sunny. I owned a Silver one from 1994-1997. If this comes in an EV avatar, would grab it on Day 1, for my teenage son (Sunny's age limit was 16 years back then as it was launched with 50cc engine)

However, going by the images, it doesn't seem to be a new design, but the same old one.

Seriously, Bajaj ? This 80's design in 2023-24 ?

Or like Prof Tarzan says, someone is having a little too much time on their hands is having some fun.

For sure this is not going to be a new design. If Bajaj launches Sunny then i am sure no one will pick one. What is the USP for this model? These days people wants all bells and whistles and where are those people who wants plain scooters?

Its USP should be its price tag. Lot of people use scooters to run errands, drop kids and do not need long range. I would love to buy one if its below 70k and comes with 50-60kms range.
