3rd-gen KTM 390 Duke launched at Rs 3.11 lakh

KTM has launched the third generation of its 390 Duke in India. The streetfighter is priced at Rs 3,10,520 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The 3rd-gen 390 Duke gets several updates over its predecessor. Starting with the engine, which is a new 399cc single-cylinder block dubbed LC4c. It features a newly optimized head and gearbox.

The new 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine delivers 45.37 BHP and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via slipper clutch and a quick-shifter.

KTM has also updated the frame, wheels and brakes, which has resulted in significant weight savings. These upgrades have allowed the Gen-3 bike to achieve the highest power-to-weight ratio of 270 BHP per tonne.

The 390 Duke is based on a steel trellis frame. The bike rides on an adjustable 43 mm upside-down front fork and a mono-shock at the rear. Braking is handled by a 320 mm front disc and a 240 mm disc at the rear supported by dual-channel ABS, cornering and Supermoto ABS.

KTM has made a few styling updates as well. The 390 Duke gets a redesigned fuel tank with aggressive shrouds on either side, an LED headlamp with boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights and a split seat. The bike is equipped with a 5-inch digital instrument console, offering smartphone connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation, launch control and three riding modes – Street, Rain and Track.

The 2023 KTM 390 Duke is available in two colour options: Atlantic Blue and Electronic Orange Metallic.

So, a price increase of about 13k from the 2023 model. The showroom people were expecting this to be a 20k increase so less expensive than expected. Good upgrades overall but the Duke now has become quite pricey.

Great option overall. More power to us riders!

Re: 3rd-gen KTM 390 Duke launched at Rs 3.11 lakh

3 lacs ex showroom would've been a very good price to start with, given how the 2nd gen costs 2.96 ex showroom. I won't complain much, and guess others won't too.

This new bike has created a separate segment for itself is what I feel. The Dominar 400, BMW G310R, Honda CB300R etc all feel a segment below now. Guess the 250 Duke will fight with these dogs(that was on a very light note). I am very happy for the launch of this motorcycle and though I have no plans to upgrade from my almost 2 year old 2nd Gen Duke, I really want to take a test ride and see how this new bike feels with the bigger engine.

And, one slightly odd thing that I noticed is the Indian version's mirrors are a direct lift from the Dominar. I am not complaining as these mirrors have very good reviews among the motorcycle community, but why did KTM do such cheap cost cutting by lifting a mirror from another bike? I really liked the design of the new mirrors, they felt sleek to look at. Assuming that the new bike will be manufactured here and exported to other countries(usually the case with KTM's), why KTM skipped those mirrors is something that I just dont understand!

What about the suspension this time around? Hopefully its the international spec adjustable suspension and not a story similar to lifting mirrors off the Dominar!

Re: 3rd-gen KTM 390 Duke launched at Rs 3.11 lakh

Highest Power to Weight? Are we counting older Duke 390's too, I guess not?

Because with a Power of 43 bhp and a wet weight of 152 kgs, the 2013 Duke was standing at above 280bhp/ton.

Ahh.. nothing to say. The Good old days were definitely the ones behind us, not the ones ahead.

Re: 3rd-gen KTM 390 Duke launched at Rs 3.11 lakh

Just booked a Duke 390 on the website.

I had booked the Triumph Speed 400 earlier last month, but a test drive this weekend convinced me it was not the bike for me. It is too similar to the first-generation Pulsar 180 that I owned (and still have) in terms of looks and handling.

Looking for a few YouTube reviews and a test drive before deciding the next course of action.

Re: 3rd-gen KTM 390 Duke launched at Rs 3.11 lakh

As crazy as this may sound, I own a 2013 Gen 1 duke and yet, I've booked this one too! I will wait for the test ride to make a final decision. Eitherways, I will not be letting go of the Gen 1, it's too much fun, especially with the RD tuning box and the Pirelli Scorpions front and rear!

If you are wondering why I did what I did, My 10 yr old bike has been reliable and a whole lotta fun over the years. After having ridden close to 60k kms, I think the itch for something new has now kicked in. I also believe that there is no other motorcycle in this segment that offers you as much bang (BHP) for your buck! Hence an updated duke is in consideration this time around. Lets see how this goes.

Any news on the service interval for the new engine? Has it been extended from the existing 3 months service interval?

Re: 3rd-gen KTM 390 Duke launched at Rs 3.11 lakh

My 2017 Duke 390 is due for replacement. Below are the preferred choices.

1) Aprilia RS 457
2) Yamaha MT - 03
3) New Duke 390

Most of my running is within city limits. Hence, I do not intend to buy bigger displacement bike than 500 CC. Duke has served me well with few niggles. I will need a bike, which should be exciting and practical for everyday use. Heart says Aprilia, brain with Yamaha. Any suggestions?

It was never 3 months. It was 6000kms or 6 months.

Re: 3rd-gen KTM 390 Duke launched at Rs 3.11 lakh

The Duke 390 was already edging to the pricier end of the curve so for all the additions, I think its good that they’ve moderated the price hike within reason. All in all, I think this is still an incredible bike overall.

Haven’t ridden it so don’t want to overstate opinions but I reasonably expect this to be THE performance bike in the 400 cc class, if you’re willing to pay the additional premium it commands.

Bajaj really do have the field covered really well with a range of offerings current and imminent offerings. The 390 trio which will be rounded off by similar new gen ADV / RC offerings, the segment 50 - 75k below comprising the very differently oriented Speed and Scrambler and of course the junior Dukes. They’ve well and truly got their own mark on the overall 300 - 400 cc segment.

With Aprilia coming in one segment above with its 457, existing Ninja 400, and the upcoming Kawasaki ZX 4R topping off this CC segment at the super high end of this range, the versatility of offerings in this CC class is better today than ever before. Not to forget - Himalayan 450, Hero 400 cc ADV, various 650 offerings from RE. Its raining bikes in the most usable CC class at the moment and only getting better.

The piggy bank is just begging to be broken.

I would recommed Yamaha just for its refinement and light weight. Plus the acceleration and top speed numbers also look very decent for 320cc. Hoping to hear from other enthusiasts.
Aprilia looks very sporty and might not be a good choice for city rides.
