Off-topic but these pictures are really nostalgic. Not because of the bike but because of the shoot location. This is FRI (Forest Research Institute) which was my home for the first 18 years of my life. The shoot has been done in FRI's main building that was built by the Britishers 100 years ago. The building is against the backdrop of the Himalayas and still serves as the main office for the campus. My father had his office in this building and we used to spend our evenings playing in the big fields just outside this building.

Congrats!! Too good a time to be a bike enthusiast. With recent launches of T400, HD440 and new Karizma, we are spoilt for choice.
Apart from budget, any particular reason not going for other recent launches?

Nowadays I think Royal Enfield’s have lost that character and authenticity and to stay in the rat race became similar to any mass production commuter bike manufacturer with the simple recipe-same chassis/engine on different body paint/panels or small tweaks in design elements resulting in another model ending in more sales.

They should have laid the production to rest with maybe a few limited numbers produced the old school way and give the legend the send off and respect it truly deserves instead of renaming the Classic as the iconic Bullet just to increase the product line, talk about ways to milk the cash cow.
Hi all. The launch is along expected lines and it looks to me we're essentially getting a Classic for a cheaper price. Going through your comments, I have the following questions.

I am thinking of getting this for touring use. I aim to go "slow" at between 80 to 90 kmph with saddle bags, so this will suffice.

Do you know:

-If there is an option to drop the spokes and get it delivered with alloy wheels from the showroom?

-It looks like the best deal in many ways is the base model costing 1.72 L. What exactly are the changes from the Classic 350? Is it confirmed that the tyre size and sprockets are different? Is the engine in a different state of tune?

-The big change is, of course, to do with the rear drum brake. Does anyone have estimates of the difference in braking time of RE motorcycles that came with the option of a rear ABS vs. drum brake?
I don't plan to go too fast, so I feel I can live with the rear brake being a drum. After all, everyone was riding with only a front disc and a rear drum till about a few years back.

-Any suggestions of lightening the load of the motorbike? I am assuming the saree guard can be removed, and that should take out at least 1.5 kgs or more. How about removing the plate that seems to be screwed on top of the muffler?

Thanks!

Bullet will come with dual channel ABS therefore it will come equipped with front and rear disc brakes and not the drum brake for the higher models. I will strongly urge you to go with a dual channel ABS if you plan on touring.

Yes, earlier people used to ride with drum brakes and I have ridden it as well. Infact I currently own a 1982 bullet but that’s the thing people used to ride it and there were safety concerns with it and that’s why we have the tech that we have today. The rear tyre can easily get locked. Go for ABS it’s a life saver in tricky situations.

I am not sure about bullet 350 but with with classic 350 you can get spoked wheels replaced with alloys from the showroom so there should be a provision with bullet as well.

Bullet weighs almost 200 kgs and I don’t think removing saree guard or muffler plate will get you a lot of weight advantage further this weight of bullet is what helps with its stability on highways specially with cross winds etc.

Cheers !

Yes, I see your concern. That's why I was looking at actual braking figures for any of the RE motorcycles. That'll help give perspective on what we are looking at. If RE feels a rear drum brake is good enough, then it may not be an unsafe option.
Btw, I've seen videos online with riders going off to the mountains and their rear disc brakes not working at all. I am not sure how many bikes this effects though.

I see. Well, much as one likes the look of spoked wheels, alloys and the tubeless tyres they support seem like a necessity now. This is especially true for such a heavy bike.
I wonder if there is some way of quickly repairing punctures for tyres running on spoked wheels.
Btw, I think it's not an easy task to remove the rear wheel running on disc brakes in case that's needed.

Sure, I see your point. Again, the old CI Bullets at 167 kg or so were heavy enough, and no one complained about stability issues on the highway or in the mountains.
I've actually been curious for a while now as to why the REs have such weight issues. Is the weight mostly part of the engine? Or, is it perhaps due to heavier components used throughout the bike? e.g. the Tripper navigation slot has a steel covering. If that can be removed and covered with a solid plastic part, then that'll bring weight savings.
It'll be interesting to do this as an experiment-see which small or not so small parts can be safely removed or substituted across the bike : )

I have always thought that the rider is often the heaviest on the bike that deserves to be trimmed down! The tripper navigation cap would be weighing less than most men's wallet brimming with 5 year old receipts.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 launched at Rs 1.74 lakh

I had an opportunity to test ride the lovely Bullet 350 ( j series). Would like to share my observations (an owner of a BULLET Electra/ES350 BS4 MY2018) during the test ride of almost 10 kms.

Key observations -
1. Lovely Bullet styling.
2. Loads of road presence.
3. Gets admiring glances from people.
4. The 350cc is a gem - it's refined, torquey and is also extremely tractable. It can pull from as low as 20 kmph in 3rd gear and 40 kmph in 5th. Ratios are well spaced out and would go on to hit 100 kmph in the 3rd gear itself. Gearbox has positive shift action and the clutch is well weighted.
5. Extremely surefooted dynamics. Rock solid straight line stability with good cornering prowess ( for a bullet). It packs in good braking power as well (for a bullet).
6. Dismisses bad patches with authority.
7. The traditional Coke bottle seat design alongwith a higher set handlebar (as compared to classic 350) is very comfortable too. This rider's triangle puts one into a zen mode with the long stroke motor throbbing away gently.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 launched at Rs 1.74 lakh

Since it's almost a "Classic Reborn" the after-market silencers should be compatible with the Bullet 350 J Series. Right?

Also, the teasers showed Bullet 500, Electra, and a Bullet Sixty-5 badges in the promo, is this launch only about Bullet 350?

Wait, there's talk of a new Bullet 500? Nice. I didn't know that. And what's a "Sixty-5" meant to be? I heard RE may launch a 650 cc Bullet, is that what this would be?

Sixty-5 was an export series Bullet 500 in the early 2000's as per another user here. I did look it up, there are some videos in Youtube.

Additionally as others summarized, maybe the 500 and Sixty-5 promos were purely for Bullet Meri Jaan Program and not really a launch. Our only recourse is to wait as time tells no lies.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 launched at Rs 1.74 lakh

Booked the Standard Black. Just love the color combo on it with the golden strip and 3D logo. I have been contemplating to buy Classic for sometime. Only that I dont like any of the currently available colors and so kept delaying on it. I like glossy and chrome with dual channel ABS. So, I was waiting eagerly for the Bullet launch and expected it to be similar to classic because they share the same platform. And offcourse it was

With the new Bullet 350, RE seem to have ticked all the right boxes. I didnt get a test ride yet, but the seating felt really comfortable. I have always liked the upright seating on the classic, but this felt more comfy then classic. On seating comfort it feels like a classic with a hint of meteor. The feel could be because of the raised handle bar and thicker seat.

The thump was good at-least on the showroom floor, could be the effect of enclosed area. It however had good bass and smooth sound. Felt good.

Immediately after the launch I booked it online on 1st Sept itself. For some reason the online booking seem to have a problem it did not generate booking ID. So I booked at the showroom again on the 2nd. They said will combine the booking and adjust payments if it went through. As far as the delivery timelines, no one has a clear idea.

Now waiting for the ride

My dealer told me today that test rides will start on Monday.
