Re: What Scooter for a large guy beginning his career?

Hi,
I bought Jupiter 125 for multiple reasons.
1. Huge seat, and biggest floor board, even a 6ft4in would be comfortable to place the legs.
2. 12 inches tyres, a little safer than 10 inchers.
3. Huge boot, to accommodate 2 helmets (Not the full face ones ofcourse)
4. Placement of Fuel cap, no need to open the seat or get up the bike, as the fuel tank is shifted to floorboard.
5. Competent enough engine, smooth, with good mileage, and totally reliable.

You can test ride Jupiter 125, and decide accordingly.

hi. there could be a bigger Honda coming soon. If I were one to choose a big scooter and if Honda has a model that matches my preference, then it would be Honda for me.

I would suggest you to consider & test drive Suzuki Access as well. I rode my colleague's Access & was really impressed with the dynamics & build quality plus its competitively priced so it won't hurt your budget.

Seconded. You can check out my review of it (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motor...000-km-up.html (2022 TVS Jupiter 125 | Ownership Review | 5,000 km up), but as a a fellow large guy (6'2", 100 kg+), and a tall pillion (5'9"), we are extremely happy with the Jupiter 125. Practicality is a level above the Burgmann, larger wheels are definitely better. Huge seats for both of us, plenty of room on the footboard Power's sufficient as well, even if it might be a little less refined. It's an excellent package, and it still costs less than the Burgmann.

When comparing Honda Activa and Jupiter, I've noticed that the Jupiter has a superior suspension system. I own both models, and my experience has shown that the Jupiter offers a more comfortable ride. On the other hand, the Activa stands out for its higher quality build and materials.

If you are ok with EV. Then give a shot to Ola. Their seats are quite wide and comfortable. Only issue for me is that the horror stories related to their scooters has created a mental block and the front suspension is not that confidence inducing for me especially.

Re: What Scooter for a large guy beginning his career?

Yes the Activa 125 is a great choice for its reliability. As evident from its sales numbers.

I have been test driving a few scooters with my colleague who is looking for a new one.
Currently my colleague owns a Yamaha FZ motorcycle and wishes to switch to a scooter for practical purposes.

I currently own an Ola S1 pro, which has been great till now (around 8,000km) with superb performance and is apt for tall fellows. The seat is comfy, but a bit short for a larger pillion and the grab handle doesn't give back support to the pillion to prevent sliding off the back, unlike the Activa and Jupiter.

Do consider the TVS Jupiter 125 and TVS iQube. They offer better comfort than Activa 125 and huge under seat storage. The Jupiter 125 has a really long seat, making it comfy for a rider and pillion of any size. Do take a test drives of all scooters on uneven roads before coming to a final decision.

Do consider an EV if your usage is over 25 km daily and in traffic, as EVs are highly efficient and economical in heavy traffic compared to ICE scooters.

Ola is launching their no frills ₹1 lakh scooters, do consider them also after taking test drive.

As far as I am concerned, economy and reliability are the plus points of the Activa, however comfort and practicality make the Jupiter a competitive option among ICE scooters for short commutes.

Re: What Scooter for a large guy beginning his career?

I own an Activa 2021 disc version and also an Interceptor 650 2023. As an owner nothing gives you more peace of mind than being on an Activa. Activa is a synonym for scooters though if Honda doesn't wake up from it's slumber that title may soon vanish coz other brands are improving by leaps and bounds.

Pros: Metal body, decent (if boring) looks, ISG, good mileage, smooth but not the most spirited engine. A friend of mine has the same scooter and he is a 140 kilos. So no complaints there.

Cons: Storage space only sufficient for a single half face helmet, small rear wheel, Honda's least bothered staff, Plastic parts are flimsier compared to the Activas of the yore, space beam headlight.

You can test ride the Jupiter 125 which i would say trumps Activas in all aspects except the refined engine and the Honda badge.
Aerox is powerful but the engine noise is too much and has weak rear brakes.
Vespa and Aprilia also have a tad unrefined mills.
Ntorq is good if you desire more power out of your scoot. It has a great seat and chunky tires.

All the best brother.

Re: What Scooter for a large guy beginning his career?

Hello-may I suggest a used 15 or 20 year old maruti please? So much more safer than a scooter and you would pay for a reasonable fuel economy. Even a Nano is better. Yes its hard to get into bylanes and the travel times maybe slightly more etx but nothing beats a used cheap car in safety when compared to a motorcycle or scooter in city.
A car has two additional wheels for balance, roof above the head and covering all around for escape from sweltering Sun and elements. When compared to a scooter we may pay possibly three times more for fuel at the max. I dont think any scooter may give more than 45 kmpl in city conditions. A cheap small engined car can do 15kmpl. But we arrive much safely, fresher, cleaner and more energetic wherever we may travel.
Please take care.

Some examples are maruti 800, zen, alto, nano, santro so on. Compare and choose wisely.

Re: What Scooter for a large guy beginning his career?

Update:
Thanks for all the valuable inputs to all the members. Apologies for the late update have been busy juggling work, scooter hunting and setting up my apartment. So the winner here is Activa 125, yesterday only booked the machine. Had quite a lot of of mixed experience which I shall share post taking the delivery. Have gone for H Smart White Colour. Have paid the booking amount and the vehicle should be here by the end of the week. Small question for all, I am slated to go and check the vehicle a day or two before delivery. Any things specific I should check? Also what is the ideal practice for payment? Should I pay on the date of PDI or on the date of delivery?
