Ola S1X Electric scooter launched at Rs. 89,999

Ola Electric is gearing up to launch a new variant of the S1 electric scooter on August 15, 2023. Dubbed the S1X, this is said to be the brand's most affordable e-scooter to date.

The Ola S1X is said to be based on a new-generation platform that could share some components with the S1 Air. We can expect it to borrow parts like the telescopic front suspension, steel wheels, and braking hardware that debuted on the S1 Air.

The S1X could feature a similar design though with a twin-pod headlamp, a flat single-piece seat and a wrap-around taillight. The e-scooter could also get a touchscreen instrument console with limited functions to keep costs down.

Reports suggest that the S1X will be the new entry-level model in Ola's line-up and is expected to be priced under Rs. 1 lakh. Its battery and motor specifications are still unknown.

Heard that instead of TFT touchscreen screen it will have LCD but anyways it will be better than other scooters in that price range which are based on Chinese scooters design which have cheap build quality. This will be more successful for OLA generating good numbers.

re: Ola S1X Electric scooter launched at Rs. 89,999

Ola Electric has launched the S1 X, its new entry-level offering, in three variants with prices starting from Rs 89,999 for the most affordable 2kWh variant.

The mid-spec version is also called the S1 X, but it gets a larger 3kWh battery and costs Rs 99,999.

At the top of the X range is the S1 X+, which gets additional connectivity features and costs Rs 1,09,999.

All three versions are being offered with a Rs 10,000 discount on the aforementioned prices until August 21.

What can I say but ICE-Killer Pricing by Ola. Knocks everything in its price range out of the park including, be it EV or ICE. Here's hoping that the Gen2 Olas will be trouble-free.

I think that the S1X's design with the dual tone is great for city use too, with most of the scratch-prone areas being made of black plastic that should hide battle scars to an extent. I also like what they have done with the console, with the cut-price console looking like a design choice rather than a cost-effective one. In comparison the Ather 450S's console looks distinctly cut-price.

The online booking site is now up. You can see all the colours and variants from the S1X, S1 Air and the new S1 Pro Gen 2.

Yesterday I checked out S1 AIR in person and I can say that it is far better in terms of build quality than the current gen Ola S1 Pro. The Grab handle is sturdy, and the plastic panel on the handlebar is better in quality. The Plastic area around the speakers feels more durable. I didn't get a chance to ride it but the front telescopic suspension feels strong enough.

I really love this new direction by ola in india. What I am surprised by is that none of the major auto news outlets seem to be covering this at all. Surprising. They should be hailing this as a much needed return of competition to the established activas and jupiters but there's not a single mention of OLA by these outlets. Maybe ola didn't pay them enough to put a good review out. Could be wrong there though.

Poor build quality, third class service centers, untrained service professionals and aggressive pricing. A perfect recipe for disaster. Every other ola owner you meet out there, is facing some or the other issues with their scooter. I myself, bought one on 15th Feb 2024. Till date it ran 1070 kms and lost acceleration while on move thrice. Lost complete power more than six times. Rude attitude towards customer and "Karlo jo kar sakte ho" mindset will drown them, sooner or later!

Re: Ola S1X Electric scooter launched at Rs. 89,999

If you look at the sales charts, it is evident that Ola continues to lead the sales charts after a record-breaking March 2024 where over 53,000 units were registered, However, come April 2024 with the price hikes across the board, other brands have failed to keep up the momentum, it is only Ola who has been able to keep up with respectable figures for the first half of the month due to prices remaining the same even after the reduction in subsidy (FAME-II maximum subsidy was up to Rs.22,500 whereas EMPS subsidy is only Rs.10,000 at the maximum). Other brands hiked prices ranging from Rs.3,000 to Rs.16,000. In contrast, Ola didn't do so to continue the momentum and earn at least 30,000 to 40,000 units of sales a month, Ola has come up with these offers and discounts to improve its sales, the same was the case back in February too, but there Ola did receive the PLI scheme benefits which were passed on. Ola desperately needs to show excellent sales figures month on month at least till the IPO to garner investor interest. Hence, these offers and discounts are sure to continue, as long as the IPO doesn't begin, even if there are no subsidies after the EMPS scheme ends in July, Ola's prices will remain stable till the IPO, which will in turn let it continue as the market leader.

EV scooter by the market leader at 70K seems mouth watering offer.

Is there any fundamental technical difference in the lowest variants compared to more expensive higher variants? Like the battery type or motor quality?

Ola is Maruti of the EV scooter segment despite whatever horror stories we hear about them. Whats keeping them ahead? Making the ultramodern design available at competitive price is enough in India to beat the competition?

Yes the price of the 2kw OLA S1 X is indeed mouth-watering, it is almost like you could buy 2 OLA S1 X 2kwh scooters for the price of one OLA S1 PRO GEN 2!

No, there aren't many differences in the S1 X 2 kWh model as compared to the S1 X 3 kWh or S1 X 4 kWh besides the following:

1. Top Speed of 85 km/h in 2 kWh against 90 km/h in the other two.
2. The 0 to 40 km/h and 0 to 60 km/h times of the S1 X 2kWh are 4.1 seconds and 8.1 seconds respectively whereas it is just 3.3 seconds and 5.5 seconds in the other two.
3. The S1 X 2kWh and 3kWh get a 500W charger whereas the 4kWh model gets a 750W charger.
4. The S1 X 2kWh comes with the standard 8-year//80,000 km warranty which can be extended only upto 8 year/1,00,000 km whereas the 3 kWh and 4 kWh models have the further option of 8 year/1,25,000 km.

The S1 X 2kWh motor has been tuned for more efficiency and hence a lower performance and top speed than the 3 kWh and 4 kWh models.

What keeps Ola ahead is the overall package it delivers, i.e. features, performance and practicality at a price which massively undercuts the competition. Moreover, Ola doesn't charge a single extra penny apart from the stated price for the Ola connectivity, touchscreen, display and app-based features in any of their models unlike its competitors Ather and Bajaj where you have to pay for the Ather Pro Pack for the full experience and Bajaj Tech Pack.

However, Service is a major factor which remains to be improved on drastically. The proposed increase in service centres, charging network and providing a better customer experience will help cement OLA as the Maruti of the 2W EV segment, however, unless these are improved rather quickly, the competitors will catch up and perhaps dethrone Ola from its pedestal.

Re: Ola S1X Electric scooter launched at Rs. 89,999

Ola S1X Mid Variant (3kWh) is cheaper to buy than a base Activa in Pune. The base 2kWh variant is over 10k cheaper.

This variant is faster to 40kph than an Ather 450S that costs 30k more.

I really need to TR this. Its getting too hard to ignore now.

With all its flaws, there must be something that these guys must be doing right to be able to sell this at prices that are competitive with OEMs selling assembled Chinese-origin scooters. It cannot just be VC money now that Ola is cutting its loss makers (pulling out of overseas markets in its cab business) and moving towards an IPO.

Indians make the best small capacity 2-wheelers in the world. Its really hard to be able to compete with global giants like Hero / TVS / Bajaj / Honda in the commuter 2-wheeler segments and manage better numbers than some of their products.

The amounts by which Ola has brought down the barrier to EV ownership is commendable. If only now they can fix their quality and customer support issues and we have a winner on our hands.

Ola is forgetting about a segment of users who are 16-18 years of age. As per the licensing norms, this age group is restricted to power outputs up to 4kW. And none of the top Indian EV OEMs are catering to this demographic. The least powerful scooter E-Scooter from a top Indian OEM is the Bajaj Chetak that outputs 4.2kW. Ola or for that matter Bajaj/Ather/TVS/Vida too could sell power-restricted versions of their scooters to this demographic and then have the scooter derestricted when these users are old enough to get their full license. That way, you catch them young and them keep them for life if the product is good enough. I wonder why none of the EV manufacturers are doing it. This target audience is stuck with brands such as Okinawa/ Hero Electric / Ampere etc. It is just lost sales that could have come to Ola instead.

That is because this age group rides ICE Scooters (Ex- Activa) which they should not by law, and even their parents allow them to do so.
Also there are many relatively affordable options available in "electric scooters that you can ride in India without license" space which can cater to this requirement.
