I would definitely wait before paying the full amount. There is no advantage to it. Pay the 25k, after making sure it is fully refundable.

As for insurance, you can try to get it outside. I only asked one insurance guy and he gave me a quote just 1k cheaper than the dealer. I would rather take the showroom one since they have that cashless system and also quicker approval/support from what I have read.

Do note that in Pune the insurance is close to 25k with 1year 0 dep cover, own damage cover and engine, consumable addons etc. Then there is 4 years of 3rd party cover after that. These details are not mentioned and I had to ask a lot of times to get them.

Just ignore them. This is a very cheap trick to earn likes - being popular by spreading negativity.
Human nature...anything that is even remotely negative gets views and likes.

These two are always in limelight for all wrong reasons. Once they went to the extent of using unparliamentary language for defence personnel in Ladakh and drew flak from lot of people.
Since then, they are infamous for such antics. Unfortunately, they do have substantial fan following who loves their cheap tricks.

Advisable to avoid.

Thanks! This is helpful. Even I had to ask multiple times for a detailed insurance split and only then did they finally send me one, albeit a shabbily put together excel extract. But in Mumbai, the 23.6K quote does not include nil dep or any additional covers. So I also don' think they would be ready to entertain any add-on covers at an individual level. So it boils down to either taking whatever they are offering or going outside completely (which, as you mentioned, doesn't bring any notable price advantage).

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Acko India is offering comprehensive insurance plan on triumph speed 400 which includes 1 year own damage and 5 years of third party at Rs 16,251. Much better than the one quoted by dealers. Make sense to negotiate with the dealer on this.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

So, I completed the KTM Test Rides again after Test Riding the Speed. Interceptor test ride could not happen, the guy has offered one on the 13th of August but I did sit on it, and moved it around on the showroom floor. And when I did, I realized why I haven't ridden one till date and left the showroom (I really like my calves to stay intact).

What I realized in those interactions is that for my use case of *purely casual use*, the best kind of motorcycle is actually a Standard motorcycle. There is no hard and fast *need* for me to buy a motorcycle and all my known use cases could have been better addressed by a scooter instead .

I have been practically off the bike for the past ~4 years. The Pulsar has not crossed state lines in ~10 years. If not for this, I was actually saving up for a used Duke 390 instead (since I currently don't want to spend money on a new one). Now that this *exists*, I would much rather get this one *new* instead of a used motorcycle.

I will use the time with this motorcycle to re-explore the motorcycling world around me, try new things (not just stick to touring this time), go mild off roading, maybe go to a racetrack/track school once and then figure out if there is anything I want to move on to. From what I have seen, the bike will do a decent job at all of those tasks so why the heck not?

I am literally penning my thoughts as I am getting them so pardon me if this seems unstructured but there is nowhere else where I can discuss these thoughts.

It seems to be closing time now but in all probability, I will pay the booking confirmation amount tomorrow morning. That is if I don't change my mind till tomorrow morning.

I can still do the Interceptor test ride on the 13th (as the showroom person promised) since the booking advance is probably fully refundable but I doubt it will change my mind since I really don't want to spend 4 lakhs on a bike when I am not even sure what I really want from it. The Speed 400 does the trick for me, for now... nobody has seen what the future holds.

Maybe my writeup will help someone in a dilemma similar to mine come to a conclusion and that is the reason this post exists.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Went to One Triumph New Delhi to check out the bikes. The bike looks great, no doubt about that.
Attaching the price list for both Delhi and Haryana.

I have just one question. Why is Triumph charging Rs. 4999 for delivery experience (cake, ribbon cutting, etc) from the customers. I had an impression till now that the dealer provide such experience for free, and to make it special for the customer. I am shocked to say the least. May be this is a standard practice.

What the hell? That is just silliness. I have not seen any other dealer do this. Pune dealer definitely didnt and as far as I know, even bangalore and mumbai dealers didnt. Get that delivery experience and helmet removed.
If anything, both should be free/part of the purchase. If they say helmet is compulsory as per govt, you can tell them you will get their own. I have read that somewhere.

Btw, jealous of that road tax .

I checked it out and this doesnt include the GST.

After you add up the 0 dep and own damage premium that for e.g. the Pune dealer is considering, the total comes to 22k. So the saving is roughly 3k. Quite a bit but might not be that easy in terms of convenience and my general lack of knowledge of Acko and their service.

Hope these delivery charges and Helmet are optional.

Ideally no one would like to pay 4999 for cake cutting etc (may be except YouTubers / influencers).

That's unique to OT Delhi (erstwhile gurgaon showroom) to be so pathetic for few monies. What they are conveying here is that the cake and claps are "free" for SBKs only

Really, even with the new owner these guys are not mending their ways, there's one or the other cheap thing they'll do to earn a bad name for bikes that engineers sweat hard to build. My 3 triumph SBKs, 3 such fiascos and now the buyer of humble costing 400 isn't spared either

There's some evil/"betal" casting its spell on all owners of OT NCR I conclude, "Havan/Homa" is a must.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

The Speed 400 has finally been launched in Ahmedabad. I found out when I looked up @Riya_Triumph on Instagram.

Even though their sales rep who contacted me has been unreachable on WhatsApp/Phone, they did answer the phone number listed on their Instagram post.

According to them, they have received around 400 bookings in and are calling up the prospective customers in sequence. I have booked a test ride for Saturday afternoon. Let's see how it goes.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

I wanted to check out the bike in person. In Bangalore, all the Triumph and Harley showrooms are very far from where I stay. Yesterday had some official work around MG road. Luckily remembered that both the Harley and Triumph are close by and went to check out both the bikes.
First I walked in to Harley. They had a display bike of x440. The bike impressed me on the first look in person. Though the finish was not as good as Speed 400, I liked the overall looks. Also the showroom staff were very welcoming. When I switched on the engine, the exhaust note made an immediate impact and pulled my heart strings.
Post this I went to Keerthi Triumph. I realised why so much hate for this dealer as I struggled to find someone to even talk to for 10 mins. There were test rides going on, and the whole showroom is filled with Speed 400s. The bike was beautiful in person. However it was underwhelming in its presence, after looking at x440. Didn't wait for the test ride as there were 5 people waiting in queue to take it and I had to get back to work. Pretty impressive crowd turn out for a weekday.
Also ergonomically I found x440 to be more suited to my liking. Coming from 15 years of riding Unicorn, I felt at ease with the posture of x440. The Speed 400 foot pegs were slightly rear set for my liking.

Once triumph launched the 400 and at that price, many called the HD440 as "Dead on Arrival".

But in a month, the have got 25K+ bookings, more then expected and had to stop bookings. Also found this as an opportunity to increase the price.

Both bikes (T400 & HD400) are much different from each other in engine character, ergonomics, exhaust note, etc, that both will find takers. HD440 may not be a hot selling cake, but with hero's sales and service network, it would most likely do decent numbers over time.

Looks like nothing will change at Keerthi. Coming to the bike, does the Speed 400 clutch feel super soft like a Honda?

If you are referring to the Honda 350 clutch, no way is it close to it. The clutch is not bad though. The gearbox is smooth as well with gears slotting in crisp.
Cheers

Apologies if discussed earlier. How does one cancel a booking? Can it be done online? Thanks in advance!
