BMW CE 02 unveiled: Latest Urban electric two-wheeler with 90 km range

BMW Motorrad has globally unveiled the new CE 02 electric two-wheeler. The new CE 02 has been designed for urban commutes and comes with a quirky design, packed with a bunch of features and tech.

The BMW CE 02 e-bike is powered by dual 2 kW lithium-ion battery packs, which together offer 15 BHP and a claimed max range of 90 km. The dual battery version weighs 132 kg and is said to have a top speed of 95 km/h. BMW also offers the option of removing one of the 2 kW batteries, which brings down the range to 45 km, top speed to 45 km/h, and also reduces the weight by 13 kg. The BMW CE 02 with the single battery classifies to be ridden as a moped without the requirement of a license in Europe.

Both versions can be charged using either a 0.9 kW standard charger, which takes 5 hours 12 mins to charge both batteries from 0 - 100%. The BMW CE 02 is also compatible with a 1.5 kW fast charger, bringing down charging time to 3 hours 30 mins.

The new BMW CE 02 uses a double-loop tubular frame suspended by USD forks at the front and a mono-shock setup at the rear. Braking is handled by a 296 mm disc at the front with single-channel ABS as standard. The CE 02 comes with a single-sided swingarm, and power from the motor is sent to the rear wheels via a belt drive.

In terms of features, the CE 02 gets a keyless go, LED lighting, reverse gear, two riding modes: Surf and Flow and a 3.5-inch TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. However, BMW offers accessory packs with additional features like a special colour scheme, heated grips and a phone mount. There is also a 'Connected package', which includes BMW's recently unveiled Smartglass with an integrated head-up display.

Prices for the BMW CE 02 start from US$ 7,599 (approx. Rs 6.2 lakh).

IMHO it's incredibly overpriced! Don't expect it to get any sales

Note that the range starts at 6.2lakh outside India. That's for 45km range. There are way better options at that price considering pre-existing EVs. This is squarely aimed at the uber rich BMW fanboy who may justify the price tag.

Wonder who will buy it at those prices.

According to a report by Autocar India, the bike is designed and developed by TVS, also will be built by TVS.

Rumour: TVS designed & developed the BMW CE 02 e-bike

According to a media report, the BMW CE 02 electric 2-wheeler that made its global debut earlier this month has an Indian connection.

It is said that the EV platform was designed and developed by TVS. If the latest reports are indeed true, then it would be the second platform to spawn from the BMW Motorrad-TVS partnership. Both parties had earlier agreed to collaborate on EVs, and we could also see some of these models making their way into the Indian market.

The BMW CE 02 is powered by a pair of 2 kWh lithium-ion batteries paired with a 15 BHP electric motor. The e-bike has a top speed of 95 km/h and can travel up to 90 km on a single charge. BMW also offers a single battery version with a top speed of 45 km/h and a range of 45 km.

Both versions can be charged using either a 0.9 kW standard charger, which takes 5 hours 12 mins to charge both batteries from 0 - 100%. The BMW CE 02 is also compatible with a 1.5 kW fast charger, bringing down charging time to 3 hours 30 mins.

We know that TVS is gearing up to showcase a new electric 2-wheeler on August 23. The company claims it would "defy the status quo in mobility". Whether it would be TVS' version of the CE 02 remains to be seen.

The international BMW Motorrad website suggests a price tag of $8,474 MSRP. Quite stressful to gulp this fact down. Maybe TVS will aid with respect to a decent price reduction?

Re: BMW CE 02 unveiled: Latest Urban electric two-wheeler with 90 km range

I thought the image was that of a chassis. Then I read the entire thread and found out that it is indeed the finished product. I just don't understand the mindset of these manufacturers. Why don't they make it practical?

Google for BMW CE 04. That is a fairing version of the CE 02. You may feel thats more practical. The 02 is a street fighter or a naked version and has its own market/customers.

PS - 04 looks horrendous in person. The 02 is more appealing when seen along the 04.

Re: BMW CE 02 unveiled: Latest Urban electric two-wheeler with 90 km range

Reading this actually reminded me of the TVS X, the underpinnings are similar.

Now its more clear where TVS got the whole X concept from

I honestly don't understand what's the point of buying a scooter if it doesn't offer a significant amount of underseat or front basket storage?

Is this even a scooter? A TVS XL 100 would overshadow this in the TVS showroom.

Why would anyone buy this over a Ather?

I do hope the TVS version of this is better thought of, although hopes are low.
