Rumour: Triumph Roadster 250, Scrambler 250 listed on official website

Earlier this month, Triumph launched its most affordable range of bikes in India at an attractive price of Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom). Now though, there are rumours suggesting that the Bajaj-Triumph could also be working on a 250cc range.

Two new bikes have been listed on Triumph's official website: Roadster 250 & Scrambler 250. These models are mentioned in the model selection menu in Triumph's official contact form.

The Roadster 250 and Scrambler 250 could be powered by a 250cc single-cylinder engine featuring dual overhead cams and ride-by-wire. It could be paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch.

The production version of the Roadster 250 is expected to be called the Speed 250. Both models are likely to be positioned below the recently launched Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X.

Okay, now I am impressed and Triumph has my attention. If they fix their service then I would be out of excuses and forced to take a look at their new offerings.

Does anyone know if these new bikes are rated for E20 petrol?

The more I think about it, the more it seems like the Triumph-Bajaj partnership is Triumph taking revenge on Royal Enfield for enroaching on their international and home turf with the Himalayan and 650cc twins .

Triumph is holding nothing back to crack the Indian market, and that only bodes well for us! Bajaj has always been in my opinion the Mahindra equivalent of the Indian bike world, and their marketing and product strategy clearly shows it, I just hope that Bajaj doesn't have their waitlist issues

I am in the market for a new bike Sub 350cc and was gonna pickup the TVS Ronin, but it looks like I have to put off my purchase

Ronin had everything going for it except the looks, but if the Scrambler 250 launches I wont have to compromise on that

Exciting times ahead

The 250cc market is a lot more competitive than the 350-400.

There are plenty of options to choose from depending on the flavour you want.

1 from Yamaha
3 from Suzuki
3 from Bajaj
2 from KTM
2 from Husqvarna
A couple more from Benelli / Keeway

2 more from Triumph is another flavour being offered to the customer but I doubt it will eat up anybody else's market share. If anything, it will make the pie bigger. Royal Enfield has nothing to worry about here.

I agree to this. But I can also foresee a repeat version of the Honda Bigwing story here, if sold only from exclusive Triumph or even from only the Triumph Bajaj showrooms.

However, with the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400x being in the range of 2.25 to 2.5 lakhs ex- showroom, we can expect the smaller siblings to pose a direct threat in terms of pricing and performance to the already competitive 250 cc segment. Again survival of the fittest rule in terms of reach and after sales service support will prevail here. In fact it will matter much more here because the customers will change loyalty faster owing to more options being available. Couldn't care less attitude won't work here.

But it will be really interesting to see how Bajaj treats it's stepson (read Triumph) when it eats into the chunk of Pulsar 250 and KTM 250's pie...

Gives me more reasons to believe that Bajaj-Triumph is using KTM derived engines, how muchever they drum that they have did it from scratch.

400cc Triumphs built in partnership with Bajaj and killer pricing sounds great. But now 250cc? I think this is too many too fast, this could dilute the brand Triumph at an uncontrollable rate. What next a Triumph Speed 200, 160, 125? I guess Bajaj really ran out of ideas with the brand Pulsar. May be Bajaj should also develop products around Triumph's powertrains and come up with the likes of Pulsar 660 or Dominar 900.

May be Bajaj wants to have the market to itself and its partners. This is better than sharing the segment with Suzuki, Yamaha etc. Like how Maruti does it.

The web url on top of that screenshot does not look like Triumph's official website to me. I also visited their India site yesterday and could not find the two listings.

Good news with more options and competition. Now it'll be squarely down to their service centres to make or break Triumph-Bajaj. BUT, the lower down the segment, the more demanding the customer will be wrt cost of ownership. And traditionally the European brands have zero idea. In my opinion this trend should also continue in the upward direction; 500-600cc twin engines for sasta.

Could be a photoshopped image. Why would Scrambler 400 be appearing twice in the same drop down menu?

Agree. I’m also pretty certain this was either a brief website glitch or an active photoshop effort by whoever sent this to the linked website.

I simply can’t imagine that they’ve already got a 250 cc engine also in the works with Triumph, hot on the heels of the 400cc launch. My best bet is that the next you’ll hear from this partnership is a third offering (at some point in the mid term) based on the same 400 cc engine. Most likely a cafe racer if I had to put money on it.

Regarding the image posted by the website, I can’t see any credible website URL showing, nor does that dropdown menu look authentic (and like you mentioned - it reads out Scrambler 400 TWICE!).

Re: Rumour: Triumph Roadster 250, Scrambler 250 listed on official website

If i may pitch in with something nagging me ever since this thread. Why are all other model names just model names (Trident on top, Tiger, Bonnie etc), but the 400s and 250s alone Triumph + the Model name?.
If i was part of the Marcom, i would not approve such lack of consistency.
Also has anybody been able to find out what part of the website has this dropdown. My phone network is spotty since yesterday and the desktop website does not seem to show me such a dropdown.

Guess its not a genuine site or is photoshopped. I just checked the official Triumph India website and there is no mention of any 250s
