Re: Harley-Davidson X440 Review

Are you sure? Will the welding joints be cleaner? I believe the first prototypes will be the best since later it will be mass produced. Need to wait and watch

Prototypes are usually like bike assembled in garage, so may have many rough edges and inconsistent quality. Mass production is done on assembly lines with best of tools, and are of consistent quality.

(Nevertheless not much change is expected except tidying up or different routing of some cable and change of brand of some parts.)

25500 bookings. I doubt anyone saw this coming!
They have now closed bookings for the X440.

Kudos Hero and Harley!
Wow, this is remarkable and this is when most influencer and you tube reviewers are going Ga Ga over Speed 400 and so much of hype and noise was created around it. I remember they crossed 10,000 bookings within the first 48 hours. Looking at that HD440 has got a good number of bookings, what to wait and watch is how many will cancel as some folks have done dual bookings too and some may also drop out post test drive if they do not like the bike. Hope they are able to deliver this number by this year end.

Bikes used for media rides, and displays across showrooms are not really prototypes, but from production line only. Just that setting up and refining a production line with all process well defined, itself is a long process which constantly gets evolved with time. At max, you can call these initial lot bikes as 'pre-production' lot with some features not well defined, or as 'work in progress'. For eg, how Jawa released initial lot bikes where certain design elements like pin-strips, which were suppose to be painted on fender as per BoM intent, were replaced with vinyl stickers.

Welding in auto industry heavily depends on robotics. These bike frames typically use robotic arm welding, and setting it up and getting the weld joints right itself is a evolutionary process for each frame and sub-frame. Typically, welding joints improve over time in an industrial setup, where processes are streamlined and optimized, with improved jigs, fixtures and robotic welding programming.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 Review

Right pricing and features allowed them to crack the market open, may be create a new segment for bikes. Hope car makers learn from this. Original Harley team never understood this and hence did not do too well.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 Review

So booking close at 25,597 as per Harley India Instagram page. Of course, there will be a large number of double bookings (me included). Still an impressive number.

Harley in response to many comments have indicated that the dealership will reach out before August 15th to update on deliveries. This was what was mentioned in the pre-booking receipt also. Need to wait and see what actually happens.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 Review

Why did you double book? You mean two showrooms right?

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 Review

Has Hero/Harley mentioned their production capacity for x440?
Considering maybe 70% of bookings convert, how long will it take for them to satisfy this demand?

Same here, have booked both the bikes. Leaning towards HDX440 after seeing Speed 400. I am looking for relaxed ride with neutral riding position, which I guess is possible with HD.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 Review

I saw the bike today. The quality seemed borderline okay. The stance was great. All the panels are of metal, even the sump guard and heat guards. As told in multiple reviews, the humongous bare metal panel at the center of the bike takes you by surprise.

There were so many wires coming out from everywhere, the bike resembled an ICU patient coming out of a serious operation! I counted six wires coming out of handlebar that one can spot while seating on the bike. Looking at the engine from side, there are so many wires again! Now curious to see Speed 400.
