Re: Rumour: Bajaj-Triumph bikes to get all-new 400cc engine

With the kind of hardware, fit and finish, Triumph branding, I expect it to be priced above 2.8 lakh ex-showroom. There is no way that this would be priced anywhere near the Classic 350, I would be really surprised if this is priced below 2.8 lakh ex-showroom. Design looks clean and desirable. Anyhow, in Bangalore, Keerthi Triumph service centre will screw up even this product.

Drop Dead Gorgeous !!! What a feast for the eyes ! If the engine is smooth and torque filled like their other engines and is priced around 3.6 lakh ex showroom, this would be one hell of a deal !

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

Speed 400 Chrome Exhaust looks out of place.

Hope there is cornering ABS and a better heat management system.

Both look decent and in line with other Triumph models. Now waiting for the pricing.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

Really good looking bikes. What's even more interesting is a 10K km service interval which might just be a first in the segment. If it's true and service costs are reasonable then we finally have a bike which would be cheaper to run and maintain in the long run. I hate the 5K/6K kms service interval of the current lot of bikes, it's just a waste of time and money. I'd rather spend Rs. 5K/6K once a year instead of spending 3K twice in 6 month intervals.

Re: Rumour: Bajaj-Triumph bikes to get all-new 400cc engine

Here is a nice video summary

Bikes look good, there are interesting features like immobilizer, lot of accessories and Triumph brand name.
BUT Bajaj Service.........let's see.
The product is good and brand Trimph will become accessible for people with budget less than 5 lacs.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

Looks simple and very small. So no big bike feel based on pics and vids. Headlight area reminds me of the xpulse road version. This is probably going to cost more than the current Duke 390. 3 lakh+ based purely on brand and not the specs is my guess.

These are some drool worthy bikes, great balance of features and looks. Now the only part that remains is the price. If Bajaj can price it between the RE Interceptor and Classic, they will surely disrupt the market. One can only hope.

Agreed. The pea-shooter exhaust would have complimented the retro classic look better.

I hardly find any mention of Bajaj anywhere in the press release except that the bikes are being manufactured in India by Bajaj to keep costs low. Not sure if Triumph would let Bajaj handle pricing even in India. Maybe things will change after 5th July once the bikes are launched officially in India. Otherwise snobbish attitude of the British marque will again kill an adorable product.

Otherwise, if you compare the Scrambler one-to-one with 390 ADV.
Engine capacity both around 400cc liquid cooled
Power figures :
Max Power: 40 PS vs 43.5 PS
Max Torque: 37.5 vs 37 Nm
Gear box both are 6 speed
Tyre size both are combination of 19" front, 17" rear
Seat height both more than 840mm
Both weigh in at around 170 kg category

So pricing should also not be much different...
Add Triumph's supposed brand value and throw in some more, a ball park figure of 4 lacs ex-showroom should be reasonable.

However, one good news is new showrooms are definitely opening up. The promise to spread over 120 cities is a welcome gesture.

The hint is there in the site itself once you attempt to register (refer the screenshot above)...

There is also an option of pre-booking with an amount of ₹2000.00 (fully refundable) for those interested.

Re: Rumour: Bajaj-Triumph bikes to get all-new 400cc engine

Good looking bikes, but these are producing KTM level power on a single cylinder engine, will have to see the vibrations. Weight seems good and even decent features but after sales is a disaster with triumph, hopefully gets a bit better with Bajaj but I don’t have much hopes. The pricing again will be a make or break, Triumph will price on premium and sales will also reflect. I personally would think multiple times before buying this bike in India, even though the product looks decent on paper and probably will be decent on road as well.

Everyone thinks they can disrupt the market but unfortunately none will, classic 350 will still sell by the bucket loads, RE is gearing up with next set of bikes and would hardly be bothered. Yes they might take away some 100-150 bikes sale away from them which hardly matters. Once you ride the twins from RE stable it is very tough to appreciate a single cylinder bike. They outdid themselves, the current version has good amount of features too, add tripper to the mix it is a near perfect motorcycle, only downside I see is the weight.

That said happy to see Harley teaming up with Hero and Triumph teaming up with Bajaj to get some good affordable and above all practical bikes to Indian shores, both are still aspirational brands and will help building the brand. Exciting times ahead.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

I hope they price it well cause this can make up for the sales dud that the 660 was. 40ps, 178kg wet, 19/17, ride-by-wire, 6speed on that scrambler sounds good.

Will Bajaj get to bring in an ADV (touring wala) version of this? Or will it come as a Triumph Bobcat? It's got to come for sure as an option to the K390 and H450. The low and mid though might be a worry.

With 790mm height and 170kg weight, it would be accessible even for short riders like me (5'5''). With that power to weight ratio, it would be fun to ride this bike .

Will this be launched in India next week or its just an unveil?

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

Splendid looking motorcycles. Kudos to the design team and fit and finish looks top notch from the pictures. The Speed 400 looks like a mix of Speed Twin and Trident. Tempted to sell my V-Strom 250 and get the Scrambler-X but will wait for the reviews and initial niggles to be sorted out and also the reviews of service quality in Bangalore with the new Khivraj dealership. Pricing will be the key here and no way they can get away with a higher price with this one.

The RE 650 scrambler is also due for launch in a few months and the pricing should be between the Interceptor and Super Meteor price. At this price point the RE 650 Scrambler will make more sense than the Triumph 400 ScramblerX and Bajaj-Triumph should be mindful of this. I sense that they will disrupt the market with a good price and expand dealerships across the country and will slowly increase the price like how they did with the Duke 390.

Also, CB300R has a retro flavor going for it and the spares availability and service quality is not good in the recent past and the Speed 400 has a very good shot at aiming for the sales of the CB300R as well here and not just the RE models. All this points to one thing and that being "If Priced right".
