Not sure if it’s a logical step to owning this as our first geared bike or any bike for that matter (we haven’t owned a bike in family for three decades; expect a 2 month Ola bike ownership which I guess doesn’t count) Mumbai traffic is crazy and maybe the bike can cut some commute time is the logic here 😬

My suggestion is that if you are going to use this primarily as a commuter for navigating through city traffic then there are other well-established options. Look for bikes with strong low&mid range, with feather light clutch action (having GlideThroughTech/similar will be an add on).

I dont have anything against Triumph Speed 400 (infact I've booked one and got the confirmation whatsapp today). This sure looks promising -- eagerly waiting for the test ride!

I received a whatsapp update from Triumph India today ~8pm IST. Yes, I am amongst the first 10k bookings!
For reference my booking id last digits were bit shy of 6k, and I've booked with Riya Triumph Ahmedabad. I've got a verbal assurance that a new dealership is going to open in Vadodara/Baroda by end of this year.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

I received the message about 40 minutes back.

Booking IDs may have been sequential regardless of whether the booking was for Speed or Scrambler. That's why 10k plus Booking id also happened to be within the first 10k customers.

Thats an update within 5mins of getting the message
And I checked my whatsapp immediately after reading your message. Thanks

I only hope they have a good helmet lock accessory which complements its good looks and build quality.
And wish the OTR is below 3L for hold on to this beauty or switch my loyalty to RE

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

I guess, messages are sent only for Speed and not scrambler. The deliveries are supposed to start next month, but still showrooms and service centres are not visible.

For Speed 400 the OTR will be below 3 lakhs for sure in Bangalore.

PS: Karnataka has highest percentage of Road Tax.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

I got my message as well. Within the 10,000 number as well for what it is worth. I will decide after a test ride whether to keep the booking as I am very happy with my Interceptor Chrome.
Cheers

Yes Kerala should have one of the highest OTR prices matched by Bangalore and followed by Hyderabad.

Some dealer has revealed this.
If true, it's a no-brainer...

₹2,57,127.00

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

Thanks Cyborg and Aviator for sharing. If that's the correct OTR price in Delhi, then it should be around 2.80L to 2.85L max on road in Mumbai (without the 10k discount). Good to know because even if they slowly increase the ex-showroom prices, it will still be in my max budget of 3L if I finalize on it at the end of 2023.

This is not bad at all. Apart from registration if rest of the costing is same then there will be only road tax differences between states. Road tax is calculated on the cost of vehicle published to the RTO, which in this case will be Rs.2,32,997/-.
So Road Tax in Bangalore will be around Rs.43,294/-, which means the starting price will be around Rs.2,91,781/-

Infact I was expecting the Insurance and handling to be bloated. Road Side Assistance is kept out of scope. Dont know what the add-ons are, but expecting this wont be a comprehensive insurance, the way they have mentioned fine prints. May be it will be economical to get and insurance outside.
But there is still an accessories department which is open for play with the dealers.
Hope the saree guard for compliance, pillion grab rail and the sump guard are standard and not charged extra.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

Will it be possible for us to shift our bookings to another dealer in the city? For instance, with Khivraj coming up, I'd like to move to them instead of Keerthi. Just heard a horror story of a colleagues friend yesterday with Keerthi motors.

With a Triumph, nothing comes free...
The sump guard and pillion grab rail are not standard fitments but available only for Indian market. Maybe only the saree guard will come as a standard fitment because that is mandatory as per RTO.

I only hope that there is provision for fitting standard Rear View Mirrors in lieu of the Bar End Mirrors which have little practical usage. Otherwise it will be a compulsory expenditure with no value addition.

Must haves are a few.
  • Upper Engine Guard = ₹ 1037.00
  • Sump Guard Kit = ₹ 4578.00
  • Standard RVMs = ??
  • Lower Engine Guard = ??
  • Radiator Guard = ??
Total ≈ 20,000.00 (assuming the RVMs to cost around ₹ 2500.00 and prices of last two items to be around ₹5000 each.
In case you want to go touring with the Speed 400 (which many people would surely do), the following are also recommended:-
  • Knee pads = ₹ 1343.00
  • Mudguard Extension Kit = ₹ 356.00
  • Saddlestays (aftermarket) = ₹3000.00
The above is assuming you already possess soft luggage (saddlebags) and a tank bag with magnetic pads.

So actual on road price (Delhi) would be around 2.9 lakhs, give or take a few thousands. Of course, this will depend upon your intended usage and that's completely a personal choice.

What is the point? Servicing can be done at any dealership and also accessories can be fit later as well.

I will suggest to do PDI and take delivery from Keerthi as standard procedure from Triumph and later decide the course of action. Competition is always healthy.

Autocar says Sump and Crash guard are standard fitment for India.
