To add to the previous detailed responses to your post, in my opinion, if your interest is more in touring, you are a 'mature' rider and plan to tour with a pillion, Highness CB 350 maybe better suited. Else it is Triumph.

Anyways CB 350 is available from the dealerships without much delay, so that decision can be put on hold pending a triumph test ride.

Thanks for the ride video! IMO handle cluster looks cheap. Nevertheless, exhaust sound is a bliss and pick-up seems to be zippy. Seems light footed, so maneuvering the Speed 400 will be smooth. Definitely will cannibalize Duke sales!

Cant guarantee the authenticity, but this information is floating around in biking groups. (Original source unknown to me)

Bookings as of Thursday morning - Bangalore seems to be far ahead of other cities, despite the infamous dealership here.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

The pricing is very tempting with only 2k for the booking amount. Nothing to lose by booking now and checking out in person later to make a decision.
Zero publicity in the papers and social media also I feel. Yes, auto industry media exposure is there.

The format you have given has an extra digit. It is YYYYMMDDXXXXXX . Even then, this seems odd.

I had booked on Wed evening, and have got 84xx for 400x and 83xx for 400 (in Bangalore). So, not sure if these numbers are correct, unless they have used batch number allocation by region / dealer, which does not seems to be.

So, is the discount for first 10000 Speed bikes or first 10000 speed + scrambler?

Tank is not necessarily bigger the better. Additionally for 10% less capacity you have given 40% less marks.

Torque ranking is incorrect. Triumph speed 400 provides as much torque as CB350 (30 nm) from 3k rpm, and is spread well across the band till 6.5k rpm where it peaks at 38nm.

It seems you are giving more marks to CB350. Wait a while if you can to see the machines in flesh before letting in any bias.

Yes, I noticed that too. I also have a 7 digit alpha numeric suffix at the end too starting with ED6XXXX. Maybe they might have changed numbering system from today.

I feel your heart is set on the CB350, your rating indicates a slight bias towards it. The only issue with Triumph would be the after sales as we are not sure what would be the service cost and experience. Excluding the after sales support, Triumph is a clear winner

Amazing bikes , booked the 400 x Red colour while drooling over the pictures and videos available on net. Hope Bajaj / Truimph delivers a good product with no niggles.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

If what I've heard is correct then with just 158mm of ground clearance, wouldn't riding Speed 400 on our potholes & illegal-bumps ridden non-standard roads be quite difficult?!

HD has Higher torque at lower RPM, which is good for relaxed driving. Hence the rating difference.

Tank capacity rating was was considering potential long trips like leh ladakh.

Torque rating difference was due to CB and HD offering peak torque at much lower RPM aiding relaxed driving.
If Speed 400 turns out better than KTM 390 at pulling from stand still, it will be rated higher. Thanks.
