Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

Another interesting interview of Mr. Bajaj by CNBC. Should answer most of the folks' burning questions.

Me and my squinty eye...

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled-e728aea1524d4f4c9910b5b93957e242.jpg

One thing I did find on the Speed 400 is the positioning of the radiator cap. The radiator cap is tucked neatly under the fuel tank and exposed partially. Though I'd love to see the cap on the radiator externally as it helps with easy maintenance. Now though, it seems as though the tank should come undone for a simple top-up or regular maintenance.

Also of peculiar note, the oil sight window seems tucked deep inside and is smaller than usual. Not that it's bad, but Triumph could have made it larger owing to the area they had available, could have made life easier..

Truth be told, I've never felt a flutter in my chest like this motorcycle and brand instigated. Even the RE 650 twins during the launch failed to elicit such heebie-jeebies inside my stomach. The colors look ravishingly beautiful with the Carnival Red taking my personal preference of choice, those triangle engine cases, distinctly and undoubtedly my favorite and the gold-anodized headers. There are legends and then there are proper legends with peerless bloodline and that gentlemen, is undoubtedly Triumph with this Speed 400.

What a masterclass of a launch!

Cheers!

Boss, your squinty eyes are superb! This is comparatively more labour intensive that all other external radiator cap applications. Unless they have some special funnel. Not an easy bike to diy maybe.

I could only find one logical components that is RTO. Insurance should also be at will of customer's preference. Rest all shall be optional. If others components are pushed across clients throat, it then simply resonates the way Mahindra dealership used to push accessories worth a lac to get early access to Thar.

Today I got a strange news. I had already made a booking of Scram 400X on June 28th via direct payment to Triumph dealer and was chasing for booking number. Today I got a call from dealership that only booking made by Triumph online booking shall be considered valid.
When I booked, the number at Triumph Delhi was under 40 and now it seems to be around 15k+. I could not only let this go since I have to anyway wait till Oct for Scram.

Triumph is known for such acts...in the air-oil cooled Bonneville T100s, to access the spark plugs the tank has to be taken off. A simple process though.

Seems this bike doesn't have a oil sight window. Some bikes do not have it, for example Apache RTR 200 lacks one. So, it's just the dip stick.

Found this piece of information while browsing through the Triumph site.

Going by this, the Speed 400's ground clearance may be somewhere around 170-175mm, which is a pretty decent figure for our roads which are punctuated with all varieties of obstacles (read speed breakers)

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

How the time has rolled for Bajaj! From despair to hope, from desperation to delight, from hopelessness to joyful optimism, what a comeback!

Using the experience gained from KTM, Bajaj tried to compete against RE with Dominar, it did not go as planned. Tried harder with “Haathi mat palo” ad campaign, it backfired terribly with Bajaj being trolled mercilessly on social media. It was “My patience is waning” moment for Bajaj.

Then somewhere around 2019, RE launched the Twins, this stole the thunder of Triumph Bonnie series worldwide. The Twins were absolute Value for Money proposition from RE stable, it worked wonders for the brand. RE gained global popularity and the sales of Bonnie series declined. In India, the Twins decimated whatever little sales the Bonnie could muster for Triumph.

Bajaj + Triumph = “Our patience is waning”

The collaboration of Triumph and Bajaj took some time to shape up, I guess both had vengeance in their minds when they sat down to discuss And look what they have produced, a timeless retro design in modern silhouette at a breathtaking price. Going by the bookings on TBhp alone, it is amply clear that this bike is going to set the sales-chart on fire in the midsize segment. It will sure dent the sales of CB350 twins, CB300R, RE CL350, Himalayan, Gixxer 250 Twins, Hero-HD 440x, upcoming MT-03, KTM 390, BMW 310R, Apache 310R, Dominar 400, etc. It is like everything is in its radar and everything is poised for disruption. Only thing to see is, will the initial euphoria sustain itself for a long time and will Bajaj-Triumph be able to give optimal after sales support.

For now, gentlemen, I can only think of Mr.Bajaj humming to himself on his way to the bank, “Is This Entertaining”.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

If the Gen-1 Bajaj Pulsar had a reincarnation, it would be the Speed 400 IMO.

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled-101513659.jpg

The Pulsar was a revelation back in 2001 and ruptured the market with its 'Definitely Male' looks. Heck, it looks good even today!

The Speed 400 is a lovely looking motorcycle, massive kudos to Triumph-Bajaj for designing the way it looks and launch it with a killer price tag.

While I don't think it will rupture the market, it sure has the potential to become one of the top sellers in it's segment and make the Brits sing '...Humaara Bajaj!' with joy.

DIY mechanics will all have a transparent rubber tube. Fill this tube with coolant, stick one end of the tube into the coolant container, and the other end where ever this opening is. Raise the coolant container to be at a higher height (above the gas tank). Gravity will take of filling it. Invariably I overfill, and use the same transparent tubing to suck out the extra coolant. I have a tube for engine oil, a tube for coolant, etc that I store with the corresponding containers. Manufacturers have stopped designing things for easy maintenance.

Fancy DIYers have a rubber suction/squeeze bulb or a big syringe to add/remove specific measured amount of fluids. The natural method of using the mouth while squinting at the transparent tube also works just as well.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

I booked the Speed online on the 1st of July. I have opted for the red. Something about this bike screams out to me! I have an Interceptor 650 and am very happy with it. The only bummer is the dealer is in Chennai and I in Erode. Let me see how it goes!
I have to add Khivraj Triumph called me the same day I made the booking and said hi
Cheers

@Porschefire, yes in pics the T400 reminds me lot of the Gen 1 pulsar as well. We had one and it was a well proportioned bike.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

So far, the only downside I can see on any of these bikes is the overall size, and the risk of them disappearing under under my 6'2", heavy-set frame. That said, even a Himalayan, being one of the tallest around, looks small, and the KTM ADV, the tallest at 855 mm seat height just about appears. So I guess I'll be waiting for a test ride before anything else.

100% will cancel my booking if I'm forced into these charges. Dealers will ruin the hype and lead to cancellations.

From what I understand the new TR series engine is a brand new Triumph design with engineering input from Bajaj, it doesn't seem to share components with the Dominar 400. Although I will admit the bore and stroke sizes are similar. The Dominar 400 engine is from what I understand a reworked Duke 390 engine, that engine's bore and stroke is 89mm/60mm resulting in 373cc of displacement while the TR series engine's bore and stroke is 89mm/64mm resulting in 398cc so I get where you're coming from.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

The greed of the Triumph dealers is already showing, again Bangalore is leading here,

Delivery charges = 17k
Intro kit 8.5k
Insurance 23.5k

Image shared on social media!
Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled-img_20230707_104212.jpg

We should not fall for these charges and detest them strongly. In addition, don't fall for full advance and booking bonus traps!

Happy booking,

Definitely. The intro-kit can be reviewed and we can choose only the accessories that we need. Delivery Charges definitely cannot be 17k. Insurance - get a quote from an independent agent and it would be much cheaper.
