Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is celebrating a new sales milestone, as its most popular model, the Activa, crossed the 3 crore sales mark.



The Honda Activa was introduced in the Indian market in 2001. It took the company 22 years to achieve the milestone figure of 3 crore units.

The Activa was an instant success in India. It became the best-selling model in the segment within the first 3-years. Sales crossed the 10 lakh unit mark within the next 2-years. Activa sales hit the 1-crore mark in 2015, and by 2018, there were 2-crore Activas on the road.

Honda has been updating the model regularly. Now in its sixth generation, the Activa is also available with Honda Smart Key. It continues to be powered by a 109.51cc, single-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Honda two-wheelers has rolled out the 1,50,00,000th unit of the Activa gearless scooter from its manufacturing facility in Gujarat. This has made Activa the first automatic scooter in the country to reach the said production milestone.

In March 2017, Honda dispatched 2,39,339 units of the Activa in India. It is currently the market leader in the two-wheeler segment, ahead of popular motorcycles like the Hero Splendor, HF Deluxe and Passion. Honda claims that the Activa is currently the largest selling two-wheeler not only in India but across the world as well.

The Activa brand was introduced in India in 2001. During the first year, the automatic scooter managed to clock 55,000 unit sales. It took three years to become the country's best-selling automatic scooter. During the fiscal year 2012-13, the Honda Activa crossed the 10 lakh sales milestone. The next four years saw Activa's sales more than doubling as the scooter clocked 27.59 lakh unit sales during the last fiscal, i.e. 2016-17. During this period, the Activa also dethroned the Hero Splendor as the best-selling two-wheeler of the country.

That's a reason unfortunately that Honda's happy servicing Activas and laughing their way to the bank at the cost of a weak two wheeler portfolio and service in India.

Their last good tourer was the decade old CBR 250 and a India patent but false promise of the RR launch. I do not see the CBR 350 and RR both coming this year. The Honda Highness trying to just cash-in for the retro design demand without offering anything spectacular for touring apart from reliability and selling truckloads only in Kerala.
