I did test ride the Meteor, its a good bike but its heavy like hell and most suited only for highway joyrides. Hunter body shape and the light weight makes it city friendly bike and at the same time it can do 80-90 with ease on highways. Now if RE gives us twin in Hunter avtar it would be icing on the cake. I dont mind the plastic fenders as long as it helps to shed some weight

RE is yet to exhibit weight loss other than Hunter 350. If RE manages to keep weight low for upcoming Himalayan 450, then we will have hopes for 650 twin cylinder lineup.
RE has to progress rapidly on weight loss program, Triumph 398cc models are looking promising and can be stiff competition to Himalayan.

Came across a clearer picture of the test mule. Courtesy Autocar.
Wheelbase is longer as compared to a 350 classic. Basically it shares the same underpinnings as Super Meteor 650. So the ride and handling would presumably be more akin to a Meteor than a Classic.
Can't make out in these pictures....Is it a double cradle frame for this model or is it the same design as the previous Bullet?

Looks promising.

What about the signature thump? I hope the exhaust sounds 2X sweet as the original one.

re: Royal Enfield Classic 650 caught testing in India | Edit: Now unveiled

From what can be seen in this photograph, it looks more raised than not only the Super Meteor, but also the Interceptor and Continental GT 650. That caters for the ground clearance issue.
This ergonomics is time tested and proven again on Classic Reborn 350, so all the issues of posture, location of footpegs for rider and pillion looks sorted.
And going by the pricing format of Royal Enfield with the 650s, it should be comfortably within reach of people wanting to upgrade from the 350s.
So, it's good news for lot of Royal Enfield fans who have waited for a comfortable and capable higher capacity touring ready bike after plugs were pulled on the 500 series....

This 3D rendering by TrippleLines gives a fair idea about the bike. If the dimensions shown are to the scale, then it is almost as long as the Super Meteor with few changes here and there.

Looks like a slightly different model was caught testing recently. Seems like a Classic 650 with a Shotgun 650 rear seat.

I'm confused

re: Royal Enfield Classic 650 caught testing in India | Edit: Now unveiled

Hello all, with the scarcity of posts on this thread, I am guessing the launch of Classic 650 is still some time away?

I had sold my CBR250R before the year and when the news of Himalayan 450 launching started doing the rounds. I was excited about the H450 but unfortunately the test ride didn't make me fall in love with it, except for the suspension which is godly.

I test rode the Super Meteor later and inspite of the heavy weight, I absolutely was thrilled with the pick up and the sound; there I thought, this is a kind of a motorcycle that I would fall in love with - had it not been so heavy.

I have always had a crush on Interceptor, but I wanted my next motorcycle to be long distance touring friendly.

The Classic 650, I think would tick all my boxes for touring, amazing well proven platform and a 2cyl engine, smooth with good torque, comfortable seating posture, and serviceability throughout the country, and not too much electronics to have issues. Simple pleasure of riding.

And we have seen that the Interceptors have done Ladakh like terrain, so you don't actually need something like the Himalayan when 90% of your touring would be on plain roads (read non Himalayan roads).

I already owned the Classic 350 before the Honda CBR250R, so I am thinking do I really want to repeat the same motorcycle sillouette!? but a twin cylinder 650 is a completely different motorcycle - and Classic has always been a gorgeous motorcycle.

So all in all, I really can't to test ride the Classic 650. Anyone has any idea when will the launch happen tentatively?

This festive season is what I gather. And I do think that it will weigh in closer to Shotgun's 240kgs than the Interceptors 217.

Agree 100%. I used to own the Classic 500 at launch and it was definitely the most comfortable bike I have ridden (bar the bone shattering vibrations ofcourse )

I have no idea why RE is taking years in releasing its most anticipated model. We have been seeing the spy shots for almost 2 years now.

Exactly, this will be a bonafide tourer.
You can expect some issues like heat from the engine, heavier weight than necessary and perhaps a more cumbersome turning radius.
But that glorious 650 will wash away all negatives once you gun it. I expect it would be perhaps the most successful one in the 650 lineup.
