Hero MotoCorp has patented a new maxi-scooter design, which suggests that the bikemaker could be working on a new premium scooter.



The patent image reveals a design we've never seen before from Hero MotoCorp. It has a sporty front end featuring dual headlamps, a stepped seat and a rear grabrail with provision to mount a top box.

The maxi-scooter is equipped with a telescopic fork at the front and conventional shock absorbers at the rear. It rides on large-diameter alloy wheels and has a disc brake at the front.

Little is known about the engine that will power Hero's new maxi-scooter. However, maxi-scooters in this category come with at least a 150cc engine paired with a continuously variable transmission.

Maxi-scooters are extremely popular in the South-East Asian market. If launched in India, Hero's maxi-scooter could compete with the Yamaha Aerox 155.

Hero MotoCorp is likely to unveil a new ADV-style maxi-scooter at EICMA 2023. A leaked image gives us a glimpse of what we can expect.



The image shows a silhouette of three scooters. The two in the background appear to be based on the Vida P1 e-scooter, while the one in the centre is the new maxi-scooter.

The upcoming maxi-scooter from Hero MotoCorp has a tall windscreen and dual headlamps. It features telescopic suspension at the front and has an upswept exhaust. It is likely to get a digital instrument console and features similar to those offered on other products in the segment.

Reports suggest that the maxi-scooter could be powered by a 160cc, single-cylinder engine, details of which are still unknown. The new model would allow Hero to take the fight to the Aprilia SR160.

Good job, Hero. Aeroxes are hard to get and we have been forever waiting for the PCXs and bigger burgmans to get launched in India. This will hopefully kickstart the maxi scooter category.

Hero showed Zir 150 in 2014 auto expo, which never saw the light of the day. Hope this Xoom 160 actually gets launched, and not remain in virtual world for another 10 years.

This Hero Xoom 160 does look good. I hope the plastics are of top quality and the finish overall for the product is the best that Hero has ever done. That would make it sell.

I called for the Aerox yesterday, waiting period is between 6-10 months. That is ridiculous. Also, just the one dealer who had stock, he demanded INR 30K extra, in cash, if I want the product on priority.

Honda has been sleeping since forever. Scooter king in India, but still only busy with the Activa & Dio. They should have brought in premium scooters long back, even manufactured them here and made the first move. But I have very low expectations of Honda giving us the Forza, PCX or ADV anytime soon.

They did say these are near production ready prototypes. So let's hope 2024 is when these scooterss hit the streets.

Hero Xoom 160 maxi-scooter unveiled in India

Hero MotoCorp unveiled the Xoom 160 at EICMA in November last year. Recently, the maxi-scooter was showcased in India at the Hero World 2024 event.



The Hero Xoom 160 is powered by a 156cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 13.8 BHP @ 8,000 rpm and 13.7 Nm @ 6,500 rpm.

The Xoom 160 has a sporty stance, featuring an aggressive fairing at the front, dual headlamps and a tall visor. The scooter has wide handlebars and a single-piece seat. It has features like a smart key with remote key ignition, remote seat opening and a digital instrument console.

The maxi-scooter is equipped with a telescopic front fork and dual shock absorbers at the rear and rides on 14-inch alloy wheels shod with dual-purpose tyres. The brake setup consists of disc brakes.

I hope this doesn't turn into the one of many Hero concepts that never saw the light of the day. The product looks very promising and production ready. Really wish Hero launches it soon.

Today's 125cc scooters easily cruise at 80kph. This liquid cooled 160 should do atleast 100+ comfortably.

Looks really good, just like previous Hero concepts which looked very good but never got launched. Hopefully this scooter gets actually produced as it looks production ready.

By the way, 13.8 BHP for a liquid cooled engine seems low, but anyway if they develop the engine, they should put it in the xtreme 160r as well, with around 17-18 BHP tune.
