I am using Zedling's custom spring & rebound with stock suspension. Covered around 10k kms on it and my usage is very low & not a hardcore off-roader. It cost 8.5k in 2021 including installation. It works very well compared to the stiff stock suspension and I am happy with it. As per my experience they are customer friendly and have quality workmanship. They are a well known name in rally circuit and many of the bikes have zedling's suspension.

Re: KTM launches 390 Adventure kitted with adjustable suspension

Ok, so the parts guy from local KTM got back saying the adjustable suspension he ordered was actually the usual non adjustable part and that there was some confusion. Per him the catalog itself - at least the one he has access to - doesn't list the adjustable suspension and that actual supply from factory will take time.

That leads me with either the YSS aftermarket off the shelf suspension or the custom made Zedling. Leaning towards the latter as it's custom made and much cheaper. The YSS shock (the one with piggyback canister and cartridges would cost me roughly 1.1 lakh or may be 10k less with the non piggyback option. Feels bit extravagant to plonk shiny parts worth 1 lac plus on a bike which market values at half of that right now

Have you ordered the zedling yet? I'm having trouble. I've placed an order mid July and paid the amount. But the order hasn't been fulfilled yet.

Not yet. Still thinking about. I only think(very strongly) about it during my 35 min ride to work and then 40 mins ride back to home. Rest of the time I am very forgetful
Your post is not very reassuring about their Professionalism though. What are they saying about the delay?

Please extend your budget and go for a YSS suspension. Zedling is not worth the time and money. I have been there and Zedling is not worth your time/money. They keep coming up with umpteen excuses and the end product is hardly any different from the stock KTM suspension

All adjustable suspension components are available with part numbers. Some diligent follow up is par for the course but well worth the effort and wait considering both are warrantied factory items.

Re: KTM launches 390 Adventure kitted with adjustable suspension

Anyone know the part number for the adjustable front suspension?

Re: KTM launches 390 Adventure kitted with adjustable suspension

@Neo18 sounds like you've had your fair share of suspension woes. If you don't mind, could you share what you ultimately settled on for the rear and front and the vendor links? I can potentially get parts shipped from the US as well. I'm mainly looking at the rear shock, the front can come later.

In dealing with the crap suspension, I upgraded to the WP Apex adjustable suspension for my 2020 KTM 390 adv and found afterwards that the spring rate was too soft for my weight (even without gear). I'm 80kg and at the 9th setting on preload- I later found that this is a classic case of the shock being undersprung for the rider. In my excitement to get some new kit, I skipped the research I needed to do about suspensions and tuning. Tbh, I'd been postponing it for too long since it's developed a reputation as a dark art. In reality I just needed to go down the youtube rabbit hole for a couple days.

It seems I have 3 options- one, return the ktm adjustable suspension (if possible) and get the suspension rebuilt by Zedling, two get some shocks from abroad by YSS/hyperrider etc., three try and find a drop in replacement suspension from a bigger bike. The third option was inspired by something Shumi did on his old Duke 390- using a $100 R6 rear shock. I'm not sure how to go about finding a shock that would fit perfectly though. What do you suggest @Neo18?

*Also adding for posterity- the contact at Zedling said that the adjustable suspension for the 2020 model can't be rebuilt, while the stock ones can. The springs can be changed to suit your weight, but the oil, valves can't be swapped out. This sounds strange to me, but figured I'll add it here anyway

Hi,

I changed the rear to a YSS suspension that has preload and rebound adjustability. It has made a world of difference to my ride. I hand carried this from Singapore and it cost me 27k INR compared to 40k which was quoted on the LRL Motors India website. I don't think this makes sense at 40k.

As for the front, I went with the OEM adjustable suspension and replaced the OEM springs with progressive springs from HyperPro(again, hand carried from US, through a friend). The Progressive spring is very effective in taking care of small undulations, uneven concrete roads, rumble strips and small speed breakers, which was not the case with the OEM springs.

I have ridden one of my friend's KTM 390 in the UK with a rear hyperpro unit which has full adjustability in terms of compression , rebound and preload along with high and low speed adjustability. While the shock is mighty impressive, at a 1000 USD + taxes, it was unpalatable to my pocket.

Thank you for the detailed post! I'll keep you posted on what I end up doing. It'll be the rear suspension/spring first and the front if I decide I really need it after that. On a side note, do you know how the springs are on the Himalayan ('24 or older)? Curious how the stock setup is for my weight, and if it's easier/more affordable to get aftermarket suspension for the RE.

If, by Himalayan you mean the 411, YSS has a pretty decent setup consisting of a YSS suspension for the rear(rebound and preload adjustable) and progressive springs for the front fork. It is also more economical than the ones for the KTM 390 Adventure.
