Honda has decided to rebrand its most popular scooter, the Activa 6G. The latest generation of the scooter loses the '6G' suffix and will simply be called Activa.



Honda has updated its official website, which now lists the Activa 6G as Activa. The suffix has also disappeared from all the official pictures of the scooter.

Honda adopted the branding specifying the generation from 2015 onwards. The Activa 3G was the first to get a suffix. Since then, the bike maker has launched three generations of the popular scooter – 4G, 5G and 6G.

The fact that Honda has rebranded the Activa suggests that the company could be looking to reposition the model as it prepares to launch its first electric scooter in the Indian market.

The automaker launched Activa 3G in 2015. Activa 4G was launched in 2017 and the year 2018 saw the 5G launch. 6G was the latest iteration. At this rate, probably the complex was too much to handle for the telecom companies. Or someone little more creative joined Honda's nomenclature team. I would say good riddance.

Thank god they realised that the stupid extra moniker isn't doing them any good and is just a waste of money. The real change after 3G was when fuel injection was introduced and apart from that, it was more or less useless changes to graphics and a few panels.

OT: I believe, the main difference between 3G and 4G was to comply with BS4 norms, and AHO (auto head-lamp on). Then 5G got fancy stuff like digital - analog instrument cluster, and a bucket of chrome.
