I don't have a solution to offer.

What you can do is walk into the Authorized service center and ask them for potential check points for a parasite power drain. You can then follow the procedures they do to check for the same using a multi meter to narrow down the problem.

Relays are nothing more than switches. They open or close. They are fairly easy to access on the Interceptor so might as well start a self diagnosis. If these are operating fine, there is little use in swapping them out. The issue could be some place else. All it takes is a worn wiring loom touching somewhere on the body or chassis resulting in electrical power loss from the battery.

As a general note and knowing how most of our dealers operate. The more busy they are, the more exposed they are to issues and offering a solution. It might be just 5 minutes cause they know exactly where to look. Pay them a visit (regardless of how busy they are) else you'll be running in circles.

Re: Fast Single to a Smooth Twin | KTM Adventure 390 to Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Start with checking RR, use multimeter to check for charging voltage while the motorcycle is idling.

Next disconnect the aux light from terminal for few days, see if it holds charge.

If this still doesn’t work out, check for parasitic draw from other components, start by removing fuses or relay one by one and see if draw stops.

Also check for alternate service Center in MMR, battery issue comes up regularly, every centre has 1-2 experienced mechanic who should be able to resolve this.

Re: Fast Single to a Smooth Twin | KTM Adventure 390 to Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Since the last update, tried to fire it up twice on alternate days - the bike started just fine.

Battery in place is the one which I had purchased, to replace the stock unit which came with the bike. Returned the Exide battery back to the dealer.

Going to leave the bike parked till Wednesday evening now.

*Fingers Crossed*

2nd periodic service scheduled for next weekend.

Re: Fast Single to a Smooth Twin | KTM Adventure 390 to Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

After a 5 day gap, fired it up.

It started with no drama at all.

Took it for a 20 km spin to celebrate.

So I guess, the relay was faulty. Will replace them with brand new ones during 2nd service in the coming days.

Then monitor it by keeping the bike standing still for a week again.

Hope this is the end of this battery problem.

Beautiful photos. The bike looks amazing! It must be quite late at night that you managed to get photos with no people around!

Location - Gaimukh, Thane, Ghodbunder Road.

Shot at ~ 7pm.
It is far off, so not many people come here on a weekday evening.
I go here often, perfect place to relax at sunset.

Shell pump bang opposite, so you can take your favourite chilled beverage along.

Re: Fast Single to a Smooth Twin | KTM Adventure 390 to Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

So, got the 2nd service done today.

My service advisor, Daya, was kind enough to take my bike in, even at 5:30 pm.
Also because the 2nd service did not have much work on it. But very happy that he attended me after listening to all the issues I had been facing.

On the contrary, tried calling Royal Enfield the brand, they just would not answer calls.
This after they know I work in an automotive journalist capacity. So what should a regular customer expect from them?

Replaced all 3 relays, behind the LHS side cover. I insisted.
RR was working fine, as per their checks.

Going to ride the bike for a good 300 kms this weekend.
Then leave it parked for a full week, next week, and then try to fire it up.

Re: Fast Single to a Smooth Twin | KTM Adventure 390 to Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Went for a spin with the INT 650 on a Saturday.
Twisted the throttle for a total of 390 kms.

Primary reason for the trip, I had to swap my AEW 102 exhaust end cans which were mild steel, to Stainless Steel Brushed Finish. The header bend pipe now looks ugly, so I am going to wrap it up.

Did Mumbai-Pune in the same time that I could manage on my KTM 390 ADV. But have to agree, I was more fatigued on the INT, hustling all the weight around.

The Vresestein tyre upgrade has been my best decision. So much confidence, in dry & patchy-wet conditions. Wish the INT had traction control, it would just make things even better.

The touring seat, this is the official MIY option, is not all that great on a long ride.

Re: Fast Single to a Smooth Twin | KTM Adventure 390 to Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Came back home after a 6 day outdoor schedule.
Fired the INT up, no drama, both canons firing fine.

Hoping that this battery drain niggle is now out of our love story.

Re: Fast Single to a Smooth Twin | KTM Adventure 390 to Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Obsession and spending continues.

INT 650 gets a tripper pod.

Mounted on the stem hole, for the conventional mirrors.
Will attach more pictures soon, after I try it out.

Hi Parrys,

Out of curiosity - did you do this as an upgrade from MS to SS or did you face any issues with rusting or peeling of the powder coat / paint?

I would recommend not to get the headers wrapped. The wrap will keep absorbing the water during every wash and rain ride, and combined with the heat cycles, it will eventually damage the MS pipes.

Why don’t you keep the stock ones for a while and then change to a pair of SS headers in brushed finish? Just a suggestion.

The Tripper installation looks really interesting. Looking forward to see more details!

Upgrade from MS to SS.

Primary reason - rusting.
I wash my bike once in two weeks or may be twice a fortnight.
However, due to the humid & moist weather, the coating was peeling off and I could not watch it continue.

The good folks are AEW helped me with the upgrade.

The stock headers, the black finish is so bad, that it is discolouring already. In less than 3k kms on the odo.

Hence the wrap.

Also, I just want to wrap it. Never have, on any other motorcycle owned.
Have already thought of some free flow SS head pipes, so I am prepared for further damage to my wallet.

I have just wrapped one pipe last night. Fell short of the wrap for the other, so the bike is parked at my friends garage.
Now suggestions like yours, do make me reconsider...

The tripper I had to wait really long. It was not in stock for months.
Finally!!!

In that case, you should just go ahead and wrap it. YOLO!

When it's time, you can just switch to the SS free-flow headers.

Re: Fast Single to a Smooth Twin | KTM Adventure 390 to Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Considering so many people suggested against the heat wrap, dropped the idea.

However, I did powder coat the pipes again. Because they were looking very worn out.

Finally, my dream project is ready.
Just like I had imagined it.

I don’t think anyone has mounted the tripper like I have, and I hope this gives RE an idea to officially execute it better.
