re: Hero Karizma to return in 2023 with a 210cc engine. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.73 lakhs

Back in the day, early 2000s, ZMA was the dream bike for us. Totally aspirational.

They've made it a commuter now with 210 cc.
However good it looks, or rides, or gadgets it gets, 210cc is a hard number to look beyond.

Hero as a company doesn't experiment or aspire to create halo products, they're super happy with the money with regular bikes. Nothing wrong with that, its a great business philosophy.

A true ZMA successor should've been the path breaking bike it was - maybe a twin 400cc.

We'll pass this for now.

cheers

re: Hero Karizma to return in 2023 with a 210cc engine. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.73 lakhs

Karizma XMR has been launched.

Some specs from the YT launch video:
  • LCD Instrument cluster
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Dual channel ABS
  • DOHC Liquid cooled Engine
  • 6-Speed Transmission
  • Torque 20.4 Nm @ 7250 RPM
  • 25.5 Ps @ 9250 RPM
  • Adjustable wind shield
  • Colors - Yellow, Red, black

It's a high-revving engine, I hope Hero has done enough testing and have ironed out all the pitfalls of high-revving engine. Their previous launches were marred with vibration bugs.

Price yet to be revealed.

Please find below a screengrab.

Hero should probably shoehorn this into the Xpulse and launch the next upgrade? The Xpulse 300/400 is atleast a year away.

I think the pricing is decent according to current market conditions.
But it's crazy how expensive motorcycles have become in recent years Last time I was in the market for a two wheeler was 2019. The on road price for an RE 350 back then was Rs 1.7L, bought my Apache RTR160 4V for Rs 1L. Both these motorcycles are at least Rs 50-60k more expensive now.
Emission and safety norms, standard ABS might be the primary reasons

Post covid inflation due to policies, still rising at 5%.

re: Hero Karizma to return in 2023 with a 210cc engine. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.73 lakhs

Good looking bike, with a nice spec-sheet and feature list. But I wonder why they skipped the USD forks on this one when it is trending currently. Also people will try to compare it with R15 given the price, which has them. Even their cheaper Xtreme 160r 4v got USD forks.

A pro version with USD forks, aluminium swingarm and maybe basic traction control would be cool, especially in the black colour.

What are othe members' thoughts on the weight? 163.5 kg is higher than the RC, duke & NS200 but less than RS200.

The short stroke architecture will prevent that from happening mostly. You cannot afford to have peak power produced so high in the rev-range.

They are pitching it as a sports tourer. Probably why they omitted the USD. USD forks in case of fork seal failure pretty much renders the vehicle unrideable. It's a safe option given how our roads are, honestly.

re: Hero Karizma to return in 2023 with a 210cc engine. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.73 lakhs

Slightly OT here!!

If Hero were planning to launch Karizma in new avatar then what was the need to update the Xtreme 200s?

Honestly I fail to understand why would they launch Karima in 200 CC category, when they could have either removed the xtremme 200s or given it a 250/ 300 CC unit?

Moreover Xtreme 200s is not a success . I am yet to see one live examplw of the bike.

Hero seems to have lot on their hands and are are still trying to understand what the market needs.

I have seen a grand total of 1 Xtreme 200s on road till date. So clearly it didn't work out & hence mostly will be phased out soon. Karizma had a huge fanbase back in the day & Hero is basically trying to bank upon that. And for 200cc category the specs aren't bad at all. Add to that the nostalgia of the brand-name might just help them gain some traction.

I would really like to see this engine on the Xpulse. God knows when we will see the 300/400 but since this engine is already here, Hero might as well try and get us a 2023 refresh of Xpulse during festive season with this engine.

That is one handsome looking motorcycle I must say. But as others mentioned, it sure deserves a bigger engine. I mean to my eyes this bike looks like a really good sports tourer. Now imagine if it had a bigger engine it would go directly against the Apache RR310. Karizma is Hero's flagship, and it sure deserves a bigger engine.

Engine aside, I really like the motorcycle. Can't wait to get a testride and see how it feels in real world conditions. Who knows what surprises the engine might have.

Is it just me or does the ne Karizma looks more of an evolution of Xtreme 200S ? Especially the headlight design and the fairing side view ?

Still I feel, if the reintroduce the old Karizma 'R' version with some new technology, it would sell more than the new one

Hope it's a good tourer with a relaxed engine like the legendary Karizma.

Re: Hero Karizma to return in 2023 with a 210cc engine. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.73 lakhs

Congrats to Hero on the launch.

The Karizma/R when launched in the early 2000s was the flagship and aspirational, this isn't. I am assuming the flagship(s) would be the upcoming XPulse 400 in rally and road form.
Exactly how the Dominar is Bajaj's flagship now and not the Pulsar220/250.

Looking at just this motorcycle for its merits:
A liquid-cooled 210cc, 25bhp/20Nm, 163kg sports-tourer with an adjustable windscreen and touring worthy mirrors at 1.72-1.82 lakhs ex-showroom ? Its an impressive package at an very reasonable price.

I am assuming this would give around 40kmpl while touring which is quite good.
The only down-side I see is a 11liter fuel tank which translates to a 350-400km range, not optimal but not a deal breaker either.
Most important though is to see how it rides and tours, if it does that well then it could be a very efficient and economical tourer which does well in the city too.

OT:
It might sound a bit weird here but having a comfortable liquid cooled 200-250cc motorcycle which returns 40kmpl is an excellent option to tour economically.
If I travel 24000km/year then at 40kmpl it means 600liters or Rs.72,000 in fuel costs assuming petrol @ 120/liter.
A larger motorcycle returning 20kmpl will incur a fuel bill of 1,44,000/year.

Question for anyone who can answer :
Please correct me if I am wrong but the liquid cooling will prevent overheating, aid FE apart from allowing the bike to run higher a compression ratio and delivering better power figures ?
Is this logic reflected in the compression ratios listed below :
Karizma XMR : 12.0
Xtreme 200S : 10.0
RTR 200 4V : 10.0
390 Duke : 12.88
