Interesting Japanese Bikes of Pakistan!

I was casually browsing on Kawasaki w175 on my laptop, some how I landed on Honda two wheelers, Pakistan web page and found this Honda CG-125. Its Pure old school design.
Can it be imported to India? Is it Genuine Honda or just joint venture model which Honda is no more control of it? Is it reliable to run? Will it meet Indian emission norms? Will our RTO register this? This is just out of curiosity.
Also on the design front why it has not caught up with Indian market?

@Moderators please feel free to delete the post if it doesn't add any value

One simple sentence - Not worth the trouble. It will be much easier to:
  • Buy a Shine
  • Modify the body to your taste
  • And get RTO to endorse in RC
Rather than getting one imported, especially from, Pakistan

It's prevalent that Indian market is about 20-30 years behind in the automotive technology/industry & that's why we still have big bikes from Triumph & Kawasaki in CBU rather than having a factory & Yamaha taking pride of their 150cc engine from 2009

So, if Pakistan has a beautiful retro looking Honda from 1980s...God knows how long it takes for them to rev-up!

PS - You could perhaps easily afford for a CB350 instead for that cost

Thanks for your inputs. Yes I did consider CB350 but its little bigger for me. I am a Kawasaki fan looking to buy W175 later this year. This Honda CG125 almost reminded me of Kawasaki 4S champion hence the decided to post the same. Only thing is bothering me to go with W175 is lack of chrome parts like Handle, Mudguards, Pillion grab handle, exhaust and few other components here and there. Is there a way I can chrome the exhaust, Handle and grab handle?

Re: Interesting Japanese Bikes of Pakistan!

With the money you'll spend on importing, you could buy a used CD100 from the yesteryears, restore it to it's full glory and still have some amount to spare. And I think the CD100 will still look better than the ones posted above.

You're from Bangalore aren't you? There're plenty of garages who can get tasteful modification done on motorcycles {much better than Chennai}. I'm not insisting or considering the possibilities for CB350, but stating it's equivalent. Below is the most apt points that I will more than agree as well

Will not recommend buying older motorcycles as Indian govt discourages applying vehicles once 15 years of life is completed for the vehicle. Something perhaps in 3-5 years range should be good. But your point is aptly put

Yes I am from Bangalore. I like CB350, I did take a test ride when it was launched, had booked one but did not go ahead because I needed something light which I can handle. But I'll search for good workshops in Bangalore. I am a DIY guy as well let me see what I can do once I buy the W175.

Agree on your points, it does make sense to not buy very old models these days.

Re: Interesting Japanese Bikes of Pakistan!

Definitely its worth spending the time and effort in importing one. For sure, imports from Pakistan would be banned. Also I dont think Pakistan emission norms are as stringent as ours. Best as everyone suggested - get a normal 100cc and modify it .

While I was searching for parts for my Ind Suzuki AX100 - I came across Suzuki's Argentina website and you wont believe - they still sell the 2-Stroke Suzuki Max 100. The bike is very identical to the Indian one - with a few changes. Tank, headlights, panels are all identical to the Ind Suzuki AX / TVS Max. I wonder why Suzuki cannot source and sell these body parts in India. How hard can it be?

I see many hurdles sir
  • Time
  • Cost of shipping from Argentina to India
  • Customs & excise duty at both countries
  • Import restrictions? {We don't know what clauses have Suzuki has signed for setting up their factory in India}

Thankfully I'm not the one having such taste . Maybe our search for W175 landed up in seeing bikes from Pakistan, Philippines, Africa. And I ended up buying CT125X instead of W175 . W175 is quite popular in Philippines. Hope you can import parts from there.

P.S: I don't know if it is true, Kawasaki and Bajaj collaborate and export bikes. For Africa, especially Boxer 125, 150 engines, Bajaj still has collaboration with Kawasaki. If someone who knows in detail can confirm this please.

Re: Interesting Japanese Bikes of Pakistan!

@MotoDrive, maybe you can find someone in Dubai who can import the bike from the Philippines, MENA or even Pakistan to Dubai and re-export to India.

Many dealers there do international business though these are all 4-wheelers and above. Just a couple of months back someone in Dubai has imported 50 or so showroom-fresh VW cars from China and sold them in Dubai, prompting the administration to alert people to buy new cars from authorized dealers only.

That said, I don't know how you can homologate or register the bike in India. Pakistan would be the last place I would choose to import a 2-wheeler from.

PAKWheels, which is a Car and Bike Forum in Pakistan, there is a thread for Indian Motorcycles, the Bikers in Pak drool over our bike and curse that they cannot import our bikes into their country and are surprised how reasonably our bikes are priced.

Re: Interesting Japanese Bikes of Pakistan!

IIRC, these were locally produced using CKD kits from Japan in Karachi. Honda had a local partner and they made these motorcycles. There were some other lower capacity CD series bikes and some very popular twins (eg CD200 Roadmaster) which were imported directly.

Thanks, I can't take all the hassles involved in importing, RTO etc. I am sticking to Kawasaki W175

Re: Interesting Japanese Bikes of Pakistan!

The bikes you have considered importing are somewhat similar to Bajaj CT110X and Bajaj CT125X.

Since you are strongly considering shelling out big money for the import or the Kawasaki W175, a test ride of these cheaper alternatives is worth a wild shot.

I know someone in an Indian education company which provides online training for teachers and they provide very good training and people world over attend and pay fee for the course.
There were a bunch of geniune teachers from Pakistan who wanted to avail the (paid) training.

The CFO immediately flagged, no payment from Pakistan will be accepted. It will put company in radar of intelligence officials and there will be a rigmarole of approvals to get them to pay.

Stay away from any idea of any business with Pakistan, definitely not worth for an old motorcycle.
