Options to sell my used 2-wheeler without much hassle?

Hello Bhpians,
I went through multiple threads here ranging from cheating of few dealers & agents, ways to manually scrap the vehicle to the modified motor vehicle rules

As the consolidation in 2023 if one were to sell a used bike what are the options ?

Expectation (in order of importance):
  1. Genuine RC transfer
  2. Decent price
  3. At home visit and inspection (like cars24)
My situation:
  1. Trying to sell Honda Activa 2007 model with 35k in odo
  2. Insurance is active
  3. FC bar since 8 months (so have not taken on the road)
  4. New tires, vehicle in running condition
  5. Expected Cost of minor repairs = 3000/- (Battery change and 1 side mirror)
  6. FC renewal cost quotation given by brokers = 4000/- (Just to renew the FC with RTO and give it back. Does not include any repairs)
  7. Resale quotation received from a dealer = 8000/- (where the dealer takes care of FC renewal)
Well at first option #7 seems to be alluding, but i am concerned that the dealer will not transfer the RC till he finds a new buyer and even then, there is no guarantee that the RC transfer will happen

So posing this question to the experts and experienced team here to understand different options and approach to take

Or, find an individual buyer who's ready to get the FC done (during the RC transfer) at his own cost? If the deal's good & the bike is in good condition, I'm sure there'll be takers & hopefully you'll get the better price than the dealers.

Re: Options to sell my used 2-wheeler without much hassle?

You cannot transfer the ownership without getting the FC done as it will be flagged by the system. My suggestion is to get the FC done first and then look for potential buyers. We have many instances in the forum itself where people landed in tricky situations where the sale was done on the 'promise' of ownership to be transferred by the buyer. Mind you, that is the responsibility of the seller. So I don't recommend selling the Activa even if a potential buyer agrees to get the FC and ownership tranfer done by himself. You can thereby avoid any headaches in the future.

In short, get the fitness done, sell the scooter, immediately change the ownership.

Thanks for the option,
What about Approach ? What are means to find individual buyers ?
I inquired dealers since i do not have anybody in my circle looking for a bike

Does it really take 4k for doing fitness ?
Checking the website conveys the official fees comes up to ~800/-
Yourself and Any body you know who recently did it by themselves ?
Please share the experience

You can post ads in OLX, FB marketplace, etc. If I were you, I'd first search for the buyer within my circle (or their friends). But I think you have to worry about getting the FC done first.

I don't think it takes that much. Usually the RTO agents ask way too much for these simple things. If I'm not mistaken, you can find the how-to in this forum itself. If not, you can directly approach the RTO and ask around. I'm sure you'll get the info easily.

It seems like a good deal if the vehicle is in good condition.

IIRC, It costed around INR 2000 including fees and road tax for 5 years. The process was pretty straightforward. Get the application done and pay the fees online. Get it inspected by the MVI. That's it.
Here's the link to the post I made when I got mine restored.https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motor...ml#post5254531 (2005 Honda Activa - Refurbish or sell? Another tale of head vs heart conflict)

The MVI will look for basic functions like brake, lights, horn and also the overall condition of body.

I spoke with a friend who recently had their bike's FC renewed, and they said it would cost you around 4k - 5k for your bike. Keep in mind that you'll need a valid PUC before you can proceed with FC renewal. If your bike's FC is already expired, you may have to pay a penalty, as well as the station charge. All in all, the cost could be around 4k - 5k, not including the price of the PUC.

Re: Options to sell my used 2-wheeler without much hassle?

In similar situation myself. Have one Discover 125 and scooty pep, both with FC expired but in good working condition. Have booked Suzuki Access and the dealer mentioned about a mechanic they have link with who can take the vehicle.
I am concerned with potential issues as doing FC renewal and RC transfer will not be profitable for them and may use as is. They have quoted 3000 as default price for vehicle more than 15 years and may offer extra based on demand.
I am not bothered about sale or money I get from them. Only need is dispose of vehicle without any future issues.

1. Can I make mechanic to scrap chassis and engine and reuse any other parts? Can I submit that proof to rto and cancel RC?
2. Worst option is to renew for both which will cost me at least 10K and hassle of dealing with RTO. The RTO is bit far from home.

I don’t plan to use it after RC renewal. I have no need for bike travel and scooty pep is not fit enough to ride in big roads. My current need is to have a good vehicle both wife and myself can use which can be taken anywhere.

Re: Options to sell my used 2-wheeler without much hassle?

In my opinion, selling an old scooter is always an hassle and not worth it. It's better to use it occasionally for short distances. Even if you renew it and make it good for road use, I think it will be difficult to find buyers who can offer a good price over the renewal cost.

Re: Options to sell my used 2-wheeler without much hassle?

I sold my 2007 scooty pep+ which was in very good condition and had run 22k kms in September 2022 for a measly 7.5k. The FC had expired in March 2022, and the sale was done on the term that the buyer will get the ownership transfer and FC done ASAP. Till date, this has not been done and there is pindrop silence from the guy who bought it. I texted him on the first of the month for 3 months with long texts, but he just left it on seen. I have left it now, as I am not really concerned as I felt the guy will use the vehicle responsibly. Nevertheless, if he gets caught, the vehicle will be seized and it will be his loss anyway.

All of this aside, my advice would be if you really want to sell it, better scrap it off or if you have the money, get the FC renewed and then sell the vehicle.

Question:
  1. Isn't the road tax paid for life time during purchase itself? Why again?
  2. Can you please break up the INR 2000 with details. Will be helpful.

Thank you. Is there a thread where you have explained the renewal process also step by step with price?

Thanks much for checking up. The charge to get PUC for old vehicle is 60/- to 100/- and has to be renewed every 6 months is what I read on the wiki. Is this not the ground reality?

Have spoken to 3 or 4 agents, this is the first time I am hearing about station charge! Please can you share a source to read more about it. Also, your friend who recently renewed, if possible please share the breakup of charges incurred.

I have asked my friend, but he is not sure about the breakage currently. It seems like he did it with the help of an agent. Regarding the station charge, he said we might have to pay some fees for the checking inspector, you will be informed of the fees by the checking inspector when you go there directly.
