Re: All-new Aprilia RS 457, now launched at 4.1 lakh

I would strongly suggest to wait this one out. Atleast for Triumph Speed 400, there was/is the Bajaj promise of service and pricing plus new outlets. The new Duke 390 also has this backing, low spare costs and plenty more outlets. Even RE twins for that matter. The upcoming R3 has the Yamaha quality backup. Ditto for Kawasaki.

Aprilia has no such backing whatsoever. It's USP currently is it's hot looks compared to all other aforementioned products. The Italians definitely know how to design good looking products. The dealers may not be willing to go back on delivery charges or high service costs like Triumph did in my locality thanks to Bajaj management. Any issues/ spare parts may be met with apathy or long wait times. I have more confidence in RE in this matter compared to Aprilia (I'm not an RE quality fan). This is 5 lakhs on road atleast.

Re: All-new Aprilia RS 457, now launched at 4.1 lakh

It seems Aprilia isn't providing the same set of accessories/add-ons in India which it is in US or Canada. I was thinking of definitely getting the bidirectional quickshifter but alas, they thought it unwise for the Indian rider (I mean it can't just be for cost reduction reasons since it's not included in the base fare of the bike).

Also, is anyone able to book the bike through Aprilia India website (https://shop.apriliaindia.com/). Once I login, I can select the bike variant, fill out my address details, and select city/state but then the form gets stuck on a loading gif forever.

I was also very detested to see this but if you go to page 8 of the Indian brochure, you can see that they do mention Quickshifter as an additional accessory. My guess is the Indian audience usually assumes guards, covers and cosmetic parts as accessories and hence they didn't mention it on that list (or they are screwing us over and not offering it in India). Also, the same page says "*Aprilia App" instead of "*Arilia MIA Optional" as on the American brochure. I did confirm from the showroom and they said the Bluetooth module will be a standard component on the Indian variants.

They built a very crap website with some weird validation conditions that don't even notify users about unacceptable inputs. What you have to do is enter your address in the shortest form possible without any special characters and just spaces to split door number, building number, etc. and it works. This was the issue I had and the showroom people and I spent nearly an hour trying to fix this and get my booking done. See if this works for you.

Re: All-new Aprilia RS 457, now launched at 4.1 lakh

Really hoping what you are saying about the Quickshifter availability is true.

Also, I was able to finally book the bike through their website. They seem to have fixed their lousy form a bit and I could register with similar details (i.e. address) as I was attempting (and failing) to use before.

Lastly, do I need to get in touch with a local dealership about my booking too? I reside in Bangalore and if Aprilia is selling this bike only through the Motoplex dealerships, MotoPlex Marathahalli will be the one for me.

Re: All-new Aprilia RS 457, now launched at 4.1 lakh

I booked the bike on 15-December-2023, after all the issues with their website. I had called the dealer, Motoplex Marthahalli, to enquire before booking. After the booking, the dealer called to get my booking number. The dealer also informed that test rides start toward the end of January 2024 and deliveries from the first week of March 2024

Re: All-new Aprilia RS 457, now launched at 4.1 lakh

I would most likely book this bike if I could get a test ride, at the moment forget test rides, there isn't any reviews from anyone. They should have really followed up the price announcement with reviews and then opened bookings. Now by the time they give the bikes for test rides and reviews, the hype they generated with pricing would have died out.
On the other side, I think it's good if Aprilia takes their own sweet time now to setup the after sales service/spares experience, the reviews on that right now is not great.

I am also waiting, let them start test rides and then let them do few deliveries. I will wait for few real life reviews and then decide, I am mainly looking at this for exclusive track riding.

Re: All-new Aprilia RS 457, now launched at 4.1 lakh

May be a little OT but I wouldn't touch Aprilia/Vespa products again. Their service quality is average and their after sales/service commitment is simply non-existent. to top it all, you don't get their spares in the market.

I gave my Aprilia SR150 for some clutch issue today (28 December, 2023), they want me to come back after 20 January, 2024
Reason: Piaggio plant is shut from 01 January till 15 January and they don't have required parts in stock.

If this is the situation for the scooters which are sold in thousands every month just imagine about RS457 which they can't sell more than a few hundred every month.

Apologies for the repost, I missed to tag and reply previously;

Just wanted to ask your opinion on the ergonomics. How was it compared to RC 390 and let's say the R15 v4?

Re: All-new Aprilia RS 457, now launched at 4.1 lakh

Aprilia RS 457 production begins in India

The first units of the Aprilia RS 457 have started to roll out of Piaggio’s manufacturing plant at Baramati, near Pune.

All-new Aprilia RS 457, now launched at 4.1 lakh-apriliars457frontview0.jpg

The Aprilia RS 457 was launched in December last year, priced at Rs 4.10 lakh (ex-showroom). The bikemaker plans to commence customer deliveries from March 1, 2024.

The Aprilia RS 457 is a fully-faired bike that competes with the KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 400 in the Indian market.

The RS 457 is powered by a 457cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 47 BHP, which puts it in the same league as the KTM RC 390. The engine is mated with a 6-speed gearbox. The bike gets a ride-by-wire system and an optional quick shifter.

The RS 457 features a 41 mm upside-down front fork with a mono-shock at the rear. Braking is handled by a 320 mm disc paired with a 4-piston caliper and a 220 mm disc at the rear, supported by dual-channel ABS.

Re: All-new Aprilia RS 457, now launched at 4.1 lakh

I think in one way we'll have to thank Aprilia, because with the way things are heading with the extremely super-dense and super-heatrf middleweight segment here in India, Aprilia might turn out to be the expedited-catalyst for high-performance twin cylinder engines, barring the RE650. I am sure, KTM/Bajaj/Triumph probably should already have this under their scopes analysing it closely. If all this leads well, KTM-Bajaj... just... might revive the 490 twin project again. If it did so, should be one crazy time. KTM can't we prod you to revive the project?

Cheers!

I don’t think that KTM will revive the 490 twin project anytime soon as the current 390 is already in league of this RS 457. In some ways it’s even better than 457 like instant torque and light weight and less complex due to less moving parts. KTM will wait and watch and if RS 457 really start eating the sales of 390 only then they will launch a 490 twin.

The 457cc motor produces more peak torque (43.5nm) against the 399cc(39nm) , I bet the sprocket change on the tuono will fix the low end that the RS might lack. I like to wait and actually ride the real bike rather than giving my opinion.

I am not the decision maker at KTM's head office but one thing is true at every company and that's business sense. Every automobile company is out there to make profit, not to satisfy automobile enthusiast's hunger. In future if KTM sees competition is killing their sales then only it makes business sense of launching new twin cylinder bike. Till then we can only dream. and about that sprocket change and all, let the RS457 come on road, then only we can be sure what suits it and what not. KTM390 engine is here for a long time and we all know about its positives and negatives.

Ergonomics-wise, I feel the Bike is not that Huge and is in similar lines with RC and R15. The bike feels compact and flickable at first glance.
