Niranjan Gupta, CFO of Hero MotoCorp, has stated that the company would launch premium bikes, as well as a new platform that’s being developed in collaboration with Harley-Davidson over the next 2-years.

Reports also suggest that the Hero-Harley bike is in the advanced stages of development. The first model is likely to be positioned in the middleweight segment and could compete with Royal Enfield. Technical details of the new model are still under wraps.

In India, Harley-Davidson’s sales and service operations are being handled by Hero MotoCorp. The new middleweight range of bikes is likely to be sold through the former’s retail channels.

Looks like the first Hero-Harley will be in the 160cc segment. Astonishing.

Re: First Hero-Harley co-developed bike to debut in 2024

Hope it is a typo. Even the Chinese cannot compete the 160cc segment in India with their pricing. Competition is cut throat in the entry level segment. Indian bike makers are the kings here. Pricing and features are the key. Even if this is going to be manufactured by Hero, a portion of the amount Hero need to pay for brand Harley Davidson which will increase the price.

Also selling a 160cc will bring Harley some bad image. This will draw comment similar to Kawasaki's over priced 175cc bike. Which I don't want to talk about.

Remember when the Street 750 came out and Harley purists in the States were screaming bloody murder that it "wasn't a 'real' Harley?" Imagine their blood pressure when this moped-powered thing hits the road with a Harley Badge.

And yes, I too did a double-take when I read "160cc" thinking perhaps it was "1600cc" and I misread it. But nope.

Anyway, I had some fun making a meme to commemorate this momentous occasion. Mods, please delete if off-topic but I couldn't resist having some fun with this.

Re: First Hero-Harley co-developed bike to debut in 2024

I would love these companies to show their market research publicly on their websites so that they can justify their thought process behind such useless moves.

I would like to see this with Hero and Honda. Both of the companies making senseless moves. Either the top shots of the companies need a nice sugar coating, or they shouldn't work at all. Most of these moves are made for a quick nip-and-tuck profit, with no plans in the long run. This is very true in the case of Honda. That CB300F is an absolute waste of R&D money. It'll be eventually killed off. Honda can be termed greedy, Hero is getting things rolling slowly in the ADV department, and is lazy in every other department.

I'm sorry if I've been off topic here, but it is what it is. Literally there is no need of a 160cc cruiser, that too with Harley, out of all brands. Intruder was a huge miss, with Avenger being the only one (that also is just a placeholder model). They're just looking at the sales chart, looking for gaps to squeeze in and are churning out models to fill those gaps.

"Hmm, what could we possibly fit in there which absolutely makes no sense but brings in money...."

No passion (pun intended), no vigor and absolutely no innovation.

Re: First Hero-Harley co-developed bike to debut in 2024

Entry level cruisers have had a very limited success. Just mentioning some of the nemes I can recall, Enticer, Eliminiator, Avenger even the Intruder.

The game for entry level bike developed with Harley Davidson is in the 400 to 800 cc segment.

Anyways, 2024 is far away and we will live with what we have already.

Rumour: Hero-Harley co-developed bikes showcased in India

The report states that one of the bikes presented at the private event was a cruiser that looked similar to the Harley-Davidson 338R. However, the bike did not have any badges or branding at the time.

The company is also said to have presented a street bike at the event. Reports suggest that this model featured more aggressive styling and had a single-cylinder engine.

Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson announced their partnership following the latter’s exit from the Indian market. The first bike developed in collaboration with the American brand is expected to debut by March 2024. It is likely to be positioned in the middleweight segment and could compete with Royal Enfield.

PowerDrift shared these too. Must say, not bad at all! I actually like the design considerably more than the ol Harley 750. Takes some inspiration from the XR1200X which is no bad thing. And frankly, I trust Hero more than I do Harley by a country mile. If it’s priced and specced sensibly this’ll be a hit.
