Re: Confused | Electric vs Petrol scooter

So while debating about the cost of running, how about comparing the ride comfort between the electrics and the petrol ones? For example, if we take the gold standard activa and an Ola S1 pro, is the ride quality comparable?

If I have a not so good back, would it become worse if I switch to an electric?

My point really is, are we comparing higher end petrol scooters with Lower end EVs purely based on speed/Power? Or are we also considering whether the other features (like suspension, seat comfort, etc) are reasonably similar.

Any thoughts?

Get over ICE, it's almost dead. It's silly to buy new ICE scooter in this age.

Please excuse me with any further arguments, not interested.

Let's not compare the cheap chinese imported EV scooter with anything.

If we consider Jupiter vs iQube, there will be considerable difference in comfort while riding iQube, if not for the suspension difference, the constant duk..duk.. sounds and vibrations make you tired after 30-40kms. You will only start to appreciate low noise if you ride or drive an EV, reason many EV owners never go back to ICE.

I completely agree that buying new petrol bikes /cars doesn't make any sense in this age. They are outdated technology and are being replaced by electric.

However in this transition phase people can buy second hand bikes/cars until the EV tech becomes reliable and trustworthy and affordable.

I don't think so. For many, it is the infrastructure issues that force them buy a ICE scooter. Especially those living in apartments where there is no provision of charging EV vehicles. I stay in one where there are just two slots to charge EV scooter. And these two slots are always being used. Residents don't even take out their vehicle even after being fully charged.
Contrast this with a ICE scooter which you can fuel up during some ride outside and then you need not worry about the next 250-300kms. Also, there is no wait time for charge like in EV.

But yes, I agree your point makes sense if one has an own house where there is no such issue highlighted above.

Having an EV, I wouldn't agree. This highly depends on a case to case usage. In our case, 90% of our usage if not more is within the city, so it makes sense because we just charge up the car at home once a week. It can also be used for highway use but mostly for recreational purposes where you can deal with the charging time associates. For a lot of my friends who have businesses that involve them driving to multiple locations across states wherein there aren't charging stations or if they are time bound wherein they cant afford to stop every 22ish kms to charge for 40 mins, it doesn't make sense.

Re: Confused | Electric vs Petrol scooter

To reiterate my point, when a new EV scooter costs similar price as petrol scooter or slightly costlier than petrol ones, why buy a petrol scooter. The use case for a scooter is city usage, even the delivery guys who need more than 100km of daily usage are preferring EVs. If EV scooter works for 99% of use cases, does not matter if it does not work for 1% use cases or 1 use case for 1400km ride during a pandemic.

While I agree there will be some use cases which is difficult to serve on an EV yet and purchase cost is still a concern for cars.

From what I see(in a metro) 90% of cars are always parked, atleast 50% cars are not used for long drives, 90% people don't drive more than 500km in a day, 90% people take atleast 1 break every 200km on a road trip.

All the above numbers are just my assumptions, in small cities 90% cars don't even go beyond 200km, most cars in our family at our native did not even cross the district boundaries. There is no road trip culture outside of metros.

Again my assumption, EVs fit in just perfectly for 90-95% people, the only concerns with EVs is slightly more costly and the infrastructure.

Agreed. EV Scooters are perfect for a person for a city commuter who does a 45-60km per day journey (Range Wise and Not Comfort Wise because scooters are very uncomfortable for such journeys). The Running Costs cannot be matched by any ICE equivalent. However for anyone who wishes for much better comfort over longer distances or wants to tour on their two wheeler, No EV two wheeler is going to cut it.

Riding comfort mostly depends on tyre size, and suspension. There may be much difference between bikes and scooters but not much among most scooters having similar tyre sizes and suspensions.

Ola S1 is lighter, more responsive and have tons of under-seat luggage space.

However you need to drive these new age scooters with care as technology is still maturing and mechanics are not to be found round the corner.

Regarding range, electric and most petrol scooters have similar 100km range. Electrics are much cheaper much less polluter to run.
