Re: A lightweight adventure bike for 5'6", which is easy to maintain

RE Himalayan and Bajaj Dominar 400 are your only options. Cheap, easy to maintain, and of course capable. A smaller capacity bike like Xpulse or Pulsar may greatly impact your CONTINUOUS and LONG touring/riding experience.

Just check this out for the Dominar review https://candidalouis.com/

You cannot go wrong with either. However both needs slight modifications to carry stuff, withstand extreme weather conditions across the different continents and so on.

Just curious, do you have a YouTube / social media channel or plan to have one to publish your travels?

Couple of years back, i too was in the same boat. I own a Scorpio 4WD and was planning to do a RTW tour, but realized that paper work, fuel, maintainence would be expensive, complex and time consuming. So had to put the idea in deep freeze.

Some recent turn of events led me to pick up motorcycling, that's when i bought the idea out of freeze and started planning again, this time on a motorcycle.
My thoughts are in the same line as others have mentioned in this thread. I bought a locally manufactured, simple ADV - Himalayan last year. The only other consideration i gave was XPulse (only 2v then), but ruled it out as i felt it was everything on the lower side (highway cruising, luggage capacity..)
My plan now is to ride the bike across the state, the country understand the issues, learn the fixes, modify the bike to my needs and then go international.
I feel weight should not be a problem with proper techniques unless you are alone in high altitude areas.

So, as others have suggested, get a simple engineered bike, ride it across the country, learn how handle it, make some modifications to suit you and then make your plans for RTW.

Apart from current Himalayan, Scram, Xpulse or Dominar you might want to wait for Himalayan 450 and see if it's any lighter.

That's the plan, I was thinking of going to Vietnam from Calcutta. But Myanmar has strict rules for your own vehicles- you've to hire govt escort officer who'll be with you 24/7.
I'm zeroing on Hero Xpulse, yet to take a Test Ride.
Rode Himalayan, felt unwieldy for my height and weight.
