re: BMW G 310 RR launched in India, priced from Rs 2.85 lakh - Rs 2.99 lakh

On the plus side, BMW owners can always switch to TVS's Service network (provided they allow it) and spare parts when they feel the rip off limiter is reaching its limits, because even if the bike is less premium than the TVS, they will charge a premium for service and spare parts.

From a friend who owns the normal bmw g310r, the average service cost is around 8k inr. Major services with parts replacements come out to around 12k inr. This is about the cost of servicing the average mass market market car or about 3 times more than the identical TVS apache 310rr.

Labour charges at BMW is naturally going to be higher, not to mention their premiums on consumables.

Disappointing but expected pricing. Possibly the real target for this model is export. Perhaps BMW is doing well with G310R and GS models in Europe, UK, US etc. and they want to "complete the line-up".
Otherwise, what's the point of its presence in our market alongside Apache RR310? Will prospective buyers here really care for the BMW badge faux exclusivity?

Not just average mass market car, a BHPian co incidentally posted major service bill with some parts replaced in his Innova costing 24 Lakhs, Fortuner (50 lakhs) as far as I'am aware costs about the same for its service as well.

Here is the Bill he posted.

Toyota is another side of the same coin. Both Innova and Fortuner are mass market cars with prices that are massively overinflated into luxury car price but with service costs in line with a normal budget car. BMW motorrad went the other way here with a budget bike with a sales price that is in line with the segment but with the overinflated service costs of a luxury brand

Toyota has proven its model to be successful in India, would be interesting to see if BMW's inverse strategy would work.

The TVS Apache service is once every 6 months while the BMW is a yearly service interval. So the TVS service is around 3k per service which works out to 6k per year service. So the difference is around 2k - 4k per year. If you give your bike to a good FNG then your BMW service cost differences will reduce even further.

Expected much better from bmw. When did bmw start being so deeply concerned about indian bikes? Hope the engine is different than the g310r!
Upcoming Bajaj 400 cc should be a game- changer.
Just like the Iphone this ones gonna be known for the brand tag. 🤐

As a tvs rr310 bto owner - only feeling I can say very truthfully is relief and a bit of schadenfreude for any well die hard bmw enthusiast who buys this bike.
Except content creators why would anybody buy something when a better version of the same product is available at a cheaper price?

This is not for just India you know. This is a global bike sold all over the world where people haven't heard of a brand called TVS. Another difference would be the resale value as a BMW branded bike has a much better resale value than a TVS branded bike.

Other than that yes its not a great deal when both bikes are available in the same market. But given that the only market these bikes both share is India BMW can sell many abroad.

Yes content creators are already going ga-ga. Soon we will see a lot of videos popping up with titles like ‘baby 1000RR’, ‘my new #bmw’, #BMW_Dhoom_Bike etc

Of the two services for the RR310, one includes the regular annual service with oil change, air filter replacement, etc while the other service is just a general checkup. Hence the cost of this 2nd service is bare minimum. I remember it was a mere 50 bucks when it was included in the free service, and later too, it goes to a few hundreds, courtesy of the labour charge.

On another note, I'm really happy with this launch from BMW inspite of being an RR310 owner. You ask why? That's because we now stand to get aftermarket accessories which were not available in good numbers till date, as the sale of this model was in limited regions globally. Now with a launch in the international market (hopefully) soon, us Apache 310 owners can expect a plethora of acessories in the market!

Since it is a Re-Badged Apache 310, I hope it has been camoflagued very well with BMW Branding.
I recollect an article on team-bhp where a Toyota Glanza ICE was displaying Suzuki logo. https://www.team-bhp.com/news/toyota...litch-software

Re: BMW G 310 RR launched in India, priced from Rs 2.85 lakh - Rs 2.99 lakh

Is it just me or does anybody feel that for the past 87 odd posts on this thread and also other places online and print media, everyone is bashing the g310rr for being a rebadge just because it LOOKS the same and so everyone is mass-assuming that it's a rip-off or is there some concrete evidence that it indeed is the same wine, same bottle, same grapes but different sticker, different winery? Am I missing something here?

I mean, there could be a lots of difference under the skin which I think nobody has even cared to wait to experience in person. So far.

Like, there could be a more aggressive and/or interesting ECU map/s, the overall quality of the things like the drive-chain, switchgear, braking components, internal suspension components, chasis config, etc and a lot more COULD be a lot better in value for the money. And you can't change all of these parts for cheap on the TVS g310 hence making this fiasco a joke. So the value could be there. Nobody has dug deep enough yet to know. It definately can be a possibility and these things can't be known just by looking at even a 100 photos and media. So why the negative hype so soon? If you ask me, it's because everyone is so excited by the brand name! That says a lot already. That's why everyone is overspeculating without waiting for a personal experience! Has anyone ridden both the bikes back to back? I guess not.

Okay, it's very much possible that it indeed is a rip-off, but we don't know that FOR SURE. Yet. Right?
