Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

Is a 300 CC maxi/retro scooter really a good combination. Given the platform of scoters, cannot imagine how it will handle 300 cc of power.

After knowing the prices, I have only one thing to say to Keeway - "Ha, Ha, Ha"!!

Some people just gotta learn the hard way, I guess.

When the KTM 390 twins are a relatively common everyday bike here, I'm not sure who's supposed to get excited at a 250 cc V-Twin that literally puts out less HP than an Avenger.

Would be interesting to see the sales numbers with the performance vs price ratio after a quarter. What are they charging extra for? Benelli bikes look more VFM with this pricing.

Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

Such a waste of my time and their time. I was disappointed when I realized that if I bought this, my full size helmet had to be carried around and wouldn't fit in the under seat storage. Now, with this pricing, there is no need to be disappointed. I am not even going to go anywhere near any Keeway anyway.

I think the pricing is high because Keeway may be offering an alternate version to Performance, going by the spelling as per this screenshot of their official website!

For context 2.99 Lakh ex-showroom is more expensive or similar in price to the following motorcycles:
  • Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 - 2.8 Lakh
  • Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 - 2.98 Lakh
  • TVS Apache RR310 - 2.60 Lakh
  • KTM Duke 390 - 2.88 Lakh
  • KTM RC390 2022 - 3.14 Lakh
  • BMW G310R - 2.60 Lakh
  • BMW G3310GS - 3.05 Lakh

Yeah nobody is going to touch these scooters when the Aerox 155 is about half the price, if anything this is going to increase Aerox 155 sales.

Thanks for letting us know that Keeway is short for KeepAway.

At least Keeway understands the basics better than Yamahas and Hondas none of whose scooters can provide you a range of more than 150Km. Keeway Maxi scooter has fuel Tank Capacity (12 L) which is almost double the capacity provided by Aerox and Activa. Even their motorcycle offering is providing best in class Fuel Tank capacity (20L).

I can't imagine a bigger fuel tank being a comforting thought when it could mean taking one that much further away from their sparse service centre network, should one face repair when touring. Have such past experiences with owning a bunch of these Chinese collabs which make a 5ltr Aerox a more peace of mind proposition to me than even a 50 litre fuel tank Keeway!
Anyway, as it seems that you are likely to own one, I'd be happy to be proved wrong by your ownership review. Eagerly waiting.

I would have but for non availability in my city. But that is not the point. It is good to have a newbie showing a mirror to biggies. Hopefully they would be nudged to offer more practical offerings.

Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

Keeway should change their name to Keeway out!

It's so ridiculous to see them use the word 'just' before 2.99 lakhs. 😂

I don't understand why they believe there is a market for such overpriced scooters. Maybe they should have launched their 125cc maxi scooters at a more affordable price first.

My fear is that this will be a grand flop and other manufacturers who were looking at launching a Maxi Scooter in India sometime in the near future will be put off by this. In a country with so many scooters why can't some manufacturer bet on a Rs.1.5 lakh scooter at scale?

Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

I can see a lot of hate for them being a Chinese product. Isn’t Volvo also Chinese then?

At least Keeway has balls for offering different products.

1) A proper maxi scooter where the more established brands (like Honda, Yamaha etc) don’t have anything to offer. Ohh yes BMW does offer one for 12 lakhs.

2) A powerful retro scooter where Vespa still can’t offer anything over 150/160 ccs.

3) A long stroke twin cylinder 250 cc cruiser motorcycle with shaft drive.

To be honest none of their products have a single direct competitor in our market. So kudos to them for at least daring to take on the unexplored segments in our market.

Also let’s wait for reviews at least before forming any opinion. I remember when MG had launched the Hector , similar hate was shown for it being Chinese and now we have more people buying MG cars than before even if it entails long waiting periods.

What makes the Keeway 300 a proper maxi though?

In terms of dimensions - it is mostly smaller than the Aerox 155.
Aerox 155 - 1,980 x 700 x 1,150 mm
Keeway 300 - 1955 x 740 x 1115 mm

Only the width is more, but then it is likely to look smaller than the Aerox, given that the wheel size is smaller too - 110/70-13 and 130/70-13 as against 110/80-14 and 140/70-14.

In terms of engine capacity - it is almost double the size but the power output is only 25% more at 19ps v/s 15ps. But then the Keeway is also much heavier - at 147kg against 126kg for the Aerox - so the actual power to weight difference is only around 10% more.

More competition is always welcome for customers. But I am not excited at 10% more performance from an unknown brand at 2.2x the price of an Aerox, which itself is niche product.

Would try to TD one if it comes in the nearby Benelli showroom.
