10k kms milestone + Observations from a 5-day, ~1100kms ride

Completed a 5-day, ~1100kms ride on the Aerox over the extended weekend with two other BHPians for company - KarthikK on his Yamaha FZ25 and neil.jericho on his Suzuki Gixxer SF250. Completed 10k kms as well while on the last stretch back home.

Here are a few long term observations:

Cons:

- As everyone knows by now, the rear suspension is just for namesake. It does nothing! Was the single biggest pain point over the two lane rural roads of Karnataka. Almost thought I'd injure my back during the back breaking roads of Kudremukh national park.
- The range! Needs refuelling every 120kms on an average, which is 3x times the fuel stops needed for the other bikes.

Pros:

- 3 years after the launch, this thing still grabs a ton of attention. On the roads, at places we parked, during discussions with strangers - many questions were raised about the Aerox. These days I'm not used to as much attention, with the rather subtle Tiger Sport 660 being my main ride!
- Handling is absolutely spot-on in the hills! Even with the non existent rear suspension - you can lean it over easy and comfortably till the center stand spoils the fun. Good compound, wide, 14” IRC rubber at both ends contribute to the experience.
- Performance is adequate for a highway ride. Could sit at 80-100kmph all day, though not much juice left afterwards.
- Decent fuel efficiency - saw an overall figure of 34.4 kmpl despite pushing it quite a bit over 5 days.
- Good practicality and storage - with the 24.5L underseat storage devouring a large bag and several smaller items!

Group shot - With KarthikK on his Yamaha FZ25 and neil.jericho on his Suzuki Gixxer SF250

No pattern as such. Mine happened with 15k on odo and some people had the issue within 7k kms as well. Seems like most of the people having issues are having the 2022 model so it’s possible that it could be a bad batch or something

Let's see. I have a 2024 Aerox and let me see how this pans out. Will share my experience as and when this issue surfaces with me.

I still wanted to get the bike serviced since I needed a reason to visit one of the sellers I had previously bought stuff from (the repair parts mentioned above). He just opened his Aerox-specific service garage in Jogeshware West, Mumbai (near Lotus Petrol Pump), and I really wanted to get a seat upgrade and headlight upgrade done.

...
The headlight and seat upgrade was pending, so I got that done earlier this month from BG Customs in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. I also got new mirrors. I've lived with these mods for more than two weeks, and honestly, the mirrors make the biggest difference, followed by the headlights and then the seat.

Seat:

Starting with the seat, there is a new "v2" seat floating around in the market, which is presumably the second iteration of the same-looking seat. From what I know, this is "waterproof," but I have no experience with the previous version.

Ownership Review | 2022 Yamaha Aerox 155 | Racing Blue-img20240824wa0010.jpg

Anyway, this seat doesn't get its foam soaked and doesn't wet your pants instantly as if you sat on a sponge, so it is "waterproof" in that context. It looks very stylish and well-made, and it adds a slight bit of comfort. Only slight, though — it's better than before, but your behind is still going to be sore after a ride. It slightly improves pillion comfort but adds some height too.

Ownership Review | 2022 Yamaha Aerox 155 | Racing Blue-img20240824wa0011.jpg

Another con is that something is amiss with the rubber fittings underneath (they don't come with the seat, so you have to add them from your old seat), so the seat no longer 'pops' open when you unlock the boot.

Ownership Review | 2022 Yamaha Aerox 155 | Racing Blue-img20240824wa0012.jpg

This cost me Rs. 6,500, and you can get it if you want a plug-and-play type seat, but I can't readily recommend it as a "comfort" upgrade because it doesn't upgrade comfort enough. Getting a seat custom-tailored to my needs would have cost time which I could not afford, so this works for me.

Headlights:

I needed a headlight upgrade because street lamps are not working in the approach roads near my house and in various spots on the highway near me. Aerox's stock lights and high beam are insufficient.

I got these (presumably) HJG fog lights installed for Rs. 3,500, including relevant brackets and installation. And these are installed in a way that makes them hidden and virtually invisible if you're not looking for them.

Ownership Review | 2022 Yamaha Aerox 155 | Racing Blue-img20240824wa0007.jpg

The button is installed near the right handle (you can see the red button in one of the seat pics). It toggles yellow light in the up position, off in the middle resting position, and cycles through various patterns of white light in the down position.

Ownership Review | 2022 Yamaha Aerox 155 | Racing Blue-img20240824wa0013.jpg

I've tried these at night, and they make a world of a difference. Obviously, you need to exercise common sense and not blind oncoming traffic. These are specifically angled downwards, and I use them sparingly, only when my stock high beams aren't enough, and I am at risk of a bad road patch. I can recommend them for their price.

Mirrors:

I've been unsatisfied with the mirrors too. The stock mirrors do just an okay job with visibility. These Nemo mirrors were in stock and for relatively cheap at Rs. 1,600, so I went why not install them too.

Ownership Review | 2022 Yamaha Aerox 155 | Racing Blue-whatsapp-image-20240807-13.13.41_f555d6cb.jpg

To my surprise, this was the biggest upgrade on the list. The visibility through them is very good. I can clearly see a lot more of the world behind me, which is such a boon in city riding. This is the mod that I regret not doing sooner, as it makes a lot more functional difference in the overall riding experience at a lot less cost.

----

At this point, I've spent a lot of money on mods on this bike, and I still have some pain points to address. I need to do something to fix the seat "pop-up" when trying to open the underseat storage (it's very inconvenient now with this aftermarket seat since you have to get half a finger in and kinda push it up, whereas the pop-up made unlocking the underseat very effortless). Then there's the rather shoddy front suspension. Unfortunately, the suspension doesn't seem like there is a cheap fix that everyone agrees upon, so I will wait it out a bit more as I am out of budget for now. I do love how the bike performs now (aside from front suspension) so I am content.

Hi, the stock seat rubber dampers aren't useful on this new seat. Go to any auto parts store and ask for center stand rubber dampers of any bike like splendor. These are relatively cheap, buy two of them, press those dampers into the holes underneath the new seat. I've done this to my seat, but there was still some gap and the seat wasn't popping open like the stock one. So I had to cut two more pieces of rubber and stuck them onto the dampers I've installed using fewikwik and it pops open just like stock seat now. I haven't clicked any pictures while doing this, else would've shared here.

Awesome job on headlight and button installation they look very neat! I installed those mirrors but couldn't keep up with people brushing on them in the parking and screws getting loose repeatedly I switched back to stock.

Thanks for the suggestion! I had only a faint idea of what is amiss, so this certainly helps. Any chance you can post After pics? It will help assess what needs to be done, as in the sandwiching for the rubber.

Thank you! Definitely recommending BG Customs for Aerox for people in Mumbai. The lights stay low key (until switched on; when switched on, everyone turns around to see you haha) and the button integrates very well and doesn't seem out of place.

For the mirrors, I was given the option of extending them beyond the handle radius for even better visibility. But I chose not to, since that would have caused people to brush. So right now they are extending just a tiny hint beyond the handle. I have the knuckleguard too, which looks imposing (but is quite flimsy), so people tend to avoid coming too close to me. I actually had the same issue with the stock ones, and there have been points where I have been bumped enough for the whole mirror to start twisting around itself.

Here you go. The damper itself is a little over 10mm in thickness, but it still wasn't filling the gap. The rubber pieces I've stuck on add a further ~2mm which is just enough for the seat to stay unlocked.

Re: Ownership Review | 2022 Yamaha Aerox 155 | Racing Blue

I recently got my Aerox, and it's absolutely awesome, especially the smart model. However, I've noticed an issue with the side stand being too weak, making it prone to falling over. I also came across brake levers with brake hold/smart lock options from Genma, as another member mentioned in this thread.

I have a question regarding the S3 levers from RCB:

1. Some say the S3 levers come with an additional plate that needs to be fitted.
2. Others mention that the Aerox 2024 model doesn’t require any plate and the levers can be fitted directly.
3. A few even say the S3 levers don’t support brake hold/parking brake functionality.

Can anyone confirm if the S3 levers are adjustable and support brake lock? Also, does the golden color option support this feature?

Much cheaper fix is to change the spring of the stand with a stronger one - Pulsar springs cost only double digits, for example.

Check the earlier pages of this thread for more details.

I did that yesterday for 50Rs (20 for spring and 30 repair charges) . It’s better now but I believe adding a brake lock makes it even sturdier😊

Re: Ownership Review | 2022 Yamaha Aerox 155 | Racing Blue

The day has finally arrived and i will be buying my 1st 2 wheeler after a gap of around 12 years. I am a little nervous and equally, if not more, excited about this buy.

After a lot of research on Team-bhp forums and personal delays, i have zeroed in on Yamaha Aerox and the On road price quoted by a couple of showrooms in Bangalore is around 2 lakhs. One showroom mentioned they will provide a seat cover, Gripper and Teflon shine coating free of cost and a couple of others have mentioned the same at discounted prices.

The delivery date is set to be on Sunday or Monday at this time.

Couple of Qs i have -

1. What should be some of the immediate things to look out for before and after i get the delivery ?
2. Since Aerox does not come in Red and i am a big fan of it, is it a wise choice to get her wrapped in Red

Re: Ownership Review | 2022 Yamaha Aerox 155 | Racing Blue

I recently took delivery of my Aerox S last weekend, and this has been my experience so far.

The scoot is a hoot! It’s such a fun bike (yes, I think of it more as a bike than a scooter, ).

Delivery Process:
The process went smoothly, although there was a long wait on the day of delivery. I was given a specific time, but about 4-5 Fascinos were handed over before I got mine. I collected my vehicle from Pratik Motors, Mapusa, Goa who have a huge stockpile of Fascinos both inside and outside the showroom —definitely their bread-and-butter product here in Goa, especially popular with rent-a-bike operators. Nothing special about the delivery — just a standard photo with the big key, and that’s it. No freebies or anything, though I managed to coerce a free helmet from them, for what it’s worth.

Looks:
The bike is a stunner in person and has a strong presence. It still turns heads, especially in the Silver Gold combo. I’m happy with my color choice, even though there were only two options available in the S variant (Blue & Silver)

Features:
The smart key is a novelty that doesn’t really add too much in the way of convenience, but it’s a cool feature to have. Even with the key fob in your pocket, you still need to physically turn a knob to turn on the ignition and then thumb the starter. Speaking of which, the silent start is quite nice. I received two regular keys and one smart key, for a total of three. However, according to the Yamaha showroom staff, the regular keys are only for opening the seat and cannot be used to start the bike. This means that if something happens to the smart key, I won’t be able to start the vehicle at all. A replacement costs about 4k. Im am not really sure why they give two regular keys, though.

The Bluetooth wasn’t working when I tried setting it up the next day. After going through the manual, I realized that the Bluetooth module hadn’t been plugged in at the dealer’s before delivery—quite an oversight on their part. Works fine after connecting it.
One issue I noticed with the seat opening is that it doesn’t pop up. I need to lift the seat with my fingers while pressing the seat release button, which I don’t think is normal. It’s a hassle when you have something in one hand and can’t prop the seat open easily.

Riding Feel:
I recently sold my 2017 Duke 390 because I wasn’t riding it much and considered the Aerox for the convenience of a daily commuter that’s also fun to ride and capable of touring if needed. So far, I’m happy to report no complaints on the fun-to-ride front. Even though I’ve only covered 150 km so far, it feels peppy and smooth. I can’t wait to finish the run-in period and open up this lovely engine. The exhaust note is a bit muted compared to, say, an N Torq, but that could also be a good thing.

Suspension:
Now, onto the suspension. Starting with the front, it’s way too soft and keeps bottoming out, even on minor ruts. On roads where I wouldn’t normally think twice about ruts and potholes, I have to be cautious because the front end bottoms out far too often with a loud thud. I read about this issue on forums, and increasing the fork oil seems to be the solution. I’ll ask the service center to rectify it during the first service.
The rear suspension is stiff, no doubt about it—you can feel every bump on the road. I’ll probably try lowering the tire pressure and see if it helps. However, with a pillion, the ride is much better; the rear suspension feels more sorted and less bouncy.

I’m planning a 250-300 km trip this weekend since I’ve been bitten by the riding bug again! I’m planning a 2-up ride from Goa to Belgaum and was thinking about luggage options. There’s no dedicated front spine bag for the Aerox available in India (from what I’ve seen), so I’m wondering what others use for touring. This would of course complement the massive 24.5L underseat storage. Tail bags are definitely a good option but more suited for solo trips. The Viaterra Claw Mini seems viable, but I’m concerned about restricted foot placement and movement, though it seems like the best bet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Looking forward to a pleasant ownership experience with my Yamaha Aerox S and excited to put loads of kilometers on it! I’ve never had a single issue with my other Yamaha (2016 Ray ZR), so I’m hoping this one will be a fuss-free experience too.

Congratulations on your new Aerox.

Well, I see some similarities here.

I took delivery of my Yamaha Aerox (Silver/gold accent) from Pratik Motors, Madgao on 1st week of March earlier this year. Haven't been yet on any long rides except a trip to Karwar and one to Maharashtra border

I am a senior citizen and thus considering my age and for hand /feet joints comfort sake, the Aerox was meant to be a replacement for my 2013 KTM Duke 390 which I still own, but rarely ride. I don't want to sell it as the price offered is ridiculously low and I might as well keep it for a week end ride.

Coming from riding KTM Duke 390 since 11 years, I find the Aerox suspension to be just fine. It's been with me for 7 months now and running on stock suspension and doing good. I have no immediate plans to change the suspension.

I found the Mapusa Yamaha service better than Madgao service centre in all respects. The Madgao service center is just a small room with a few stray dogs loitering around and garbage lying everywhere. Mapusa centre is relatively better. Nobody would believe it's a Yamaha service centre if you didn't mention it. I think Yamaha/ Pratik Motors need to roll up their sleeves and up their game here.

Regarding the luggage, I have about 7 or 8 Viaterra products from Claw (the bigger one) to hydration unit, tank bag, seaty, waist pouch and a couple of the tail bags and few more things. I am a Viaterra loyal customer since a decade now. . I think the Mini Claw would perfectly slot in the front and shouldn't be an issue. The foot space is an issue when claw is rested at the front, but you get used to it. I was contemplating additional foot pegs on either side to place the foot. Need to find proper way to implement it.

The seat slopes to front and hence when you are riding, you tend to slide a bit to the front. A good cushion should solve the issue. I wear 3M cycling shorts that has proper butt padding and does a fairly good job in keeping the butt in place and ok during long rides.

Helmet is not a freebie. It's mandatory for the dealer to provide you a helmet with the scooter. I think it's some new rules or so.

Now, that smaller distance like 200 -250 Kms are done, I have plans to take it on some long rides, 500-1000 kms type in coming days.

Enjoy your ride. Stay safe.

The Bluetooth module is infamous for draining the scooter's battery. Most of us keep it unplugged because if the battery drains, you can't kickstart the scooter and can get stranded. So, if you aren't switching on the bike practically every other day, do consider whether you need Bluetooth on.
