Ok, seems like Michelins are the way to go. Any idea on imported Bridgestones, Metzeler, etc?

I wonder why people get anal about stock looks. I like anything that goes fast. Who cares if your indicators are RX, RD or CBZ. As long as it looks good, and still rockets past anything else made in India, do you really care?

I am looking for an RD350. I have heard prices of 25-35K. But everyone is scaring me telling I need to get it repaired every few months.

I have also looked at a 5-speed disc brake RX-Z which is 1.5 years old for 25K.

what to do?

Hillram,

Where did U get the RD from ? Where are you getting it serviced ? I had RD for more than 10 years, and for last 7 years,I'm not able to find a decent RD mechanic in Hyderabad !! I've finally sold it off to my close friends ..

Most of the RD mechanics in Hyderabad are useless. They can give you all the cosmetic changes you want, but if you tell them to lift the Block Heads, they get ****-scared.

Some of the known Mechanics in Hyderabad:
1) Micheal - Expensive, I did not like his work.
2) Janakiram @ RTC X-roads, I had used his services only once. Did not go back to him again.
3) Sanjay - Behind ESI Hospital - He is good and very reasonable and reliable.
4) Javed - Near Marriot Hotel - No idea on this work.

Okie .. I know that Mech .. he maintains 2-3 very very nice RDs. I guess Ur's is one of them !!

There are a couple of shops where you can try :

1) Universal Scooter : Ram Koti : He's expensive as compared to Mumbai shops, but he can get some parts thru his contacts in Bangalore.

There's another shop right on the RamKoti signal. I don't remember the shop's name. When coming from Universal Scooters to Ram Koti, the building on the left hand corner has some shops in the basement. He too gets genuine stuff.

Keep both shops' phone numbers handy and call him before going to him or Universal. Hyderabadis will always ask you to come back in 2 days, but will never get a part in less than 15 days !!

@Tramway..Awesome collection of pristine RDs.
I noticed that the mud guards of all the three are not original. The first pic with group of RDs shows a chrome mud guard, but the basement pic has a non-original one.
Please restore the chrome ones.

The bike was launched when I started working (83 - 84) and I very much wanted to buy one. But a senior colleague who already owned one advised against it as he felt the brakes were dangerous. Disc brakes were extremely rare and very expensive those days, and he sold the bike off. I still remember the "Torque Induction" stickers on the sides and thought them very cool!

BTW if they were badged as Yamaha they would have sold in decent numbers. Escorts even changed the name of the hugely successful Yamaha RX 100 as "Escorts 100" and the sales immediately dried up. They had to hurriedly bring back the Yamaha badging.

Some people never learn!
