She had around 59,000 kilometres on 3 different Himilayans before her adventures were temporarily halted by the Covid panic.

Anyone not full time touring would have needed to buy an early Himilayan in 2016 and average almost 15k a year for 4 years to equal her pre-covid mileages on them, and the Himalayan was a slow burner - 2018/19 sales were not much over 1000 units a month in India.

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable thing for her to say.

15k a year is commute + occasional weekend rides mileage for any 20 something in a big city. I've done it for many years in the past on a bike with less than half the displacement. And I would suspect others on the forum have as well.

If the Himalayan sold only 10k units in the first year, to think only 0.03% of them did 15k km a year for 4 years would grossly underestimate how motorbikes are used in this country.

I'll drop this discuss here because I don't think it will go anywhere, unlike the Himalayan

  • Odometer
  • Clock
  • Temparature gauge
  • Total distance to destination
  • Distance to next waypoint
  • Fuel gauge.

Once the navigation is switched off, the outer ring doubles up as a digital tachometer.

Truly world class. Good job by RE at this
Yes!!

It is amazing to see such tech on relatively mass market bikes! I know of only the Africa Twin which gets similar features.

I wonder how expensive this pod will be!

Royal Enfield is cooking big every time since the launch of the refreshed Classic 350. Can't wait to get my hands on this. This will be by far the most affordable and practical ADV when in launches here in Australia later next year.

The instrument cluster is a delight to look at in the videos. RE has done a great job with the H450.

re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

I agree with @TS, the 450 Himmy is turning out to be a pretty well-rounded package given the tech, and the purported 40HP-40NM figures. I hope they keep the curb weight to sub 200kg to finish things off, where it is not trying to compete with the dual sports of the world, but is still a capable and affordable mile muncher for the Himalayan-like terrain.

From the US standpoint, the pricing will be key, and just like the 411, the 450 will probably be the cheapest and true mass-market ADV bike available for sale and should alleviate most if not all the complaints regarding the 411. As far as the competition is concerned, the Triumph Scrambler 500x is a Standard, propped up to look like a soft off-roader. The KTM Adv is a 390 Duke dressed up like an Adv bike. While both these bikes are fun and capable in their own right, you cannot compete with the positives that a ground-adv bike brings - Seating position, geometry, engine torque curve, engine mounting, and luggage hauling capacity. I just hope that RE is able to extend the service intervals, and not make beta testers out of early adopters.

RE is doing the right stuff by giving the bike to her to ride and talk about her impressions on her video. They sure are adapting to the new way of advertising and marketing their products and this is much better than waiting for the launch date and then seeing the bike just parked on a stage without much else been seen.

The pricing I feel would be favourable as well as RE has been doing that on their previous new launches as well. The only thing left is a trouble free product.

Can't wait to test ride the bike.

Few more observations from the YouTube video by ItchyBoots.

1. When the navigation is switched off, the instrument console displays the following :-
  • Speedometer
  • Odometer
  • Gear position indicator
  • Clock
  • Temparature gauge
  • Fuel gauge
  • Tachometer (the outer ring)

Two combination/views of the console which were used by Noraly have been shown in the video. There may be more such combination/layout.

2. The bike used by Noraly has normal tubed tyres and centre placed spokes on the wheels.

So, in all probability, tubeless spoked wheels are an option/accesory.

I had the white BS4 which I sold off last year. Although i love the white, if I were to buy the new Himalayan, i will buy the black, looks stealth.
I loved the Himalayan for its simplicity, the BS3 was even better (minus the infamous Chassis and coil failures), i'd still pick the BS3 over the BS4 anyday due to minimal reliance on electronics.

RE has really upped the game, price it right with decent reliability I see a blockbuster in the making. With the new 390/400adv round the corner with reduced weight being claimed, its a boon for people who want to buy an ADV.

re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

I am in the process of selling my good ol' avenger 220 and recently purchased Dominar 250 in favor of this motorbike that I simply couldn't resist thinking about ever since it was teased (particularly happened after I returned from a recent Motorbike Trip near Spiti->Leh). I used to think that 250cc is enough for Indian roads but I have learned my lession.

- I hope the new redesigned engine doesn't cut out on Low -> Mid End Torque Delivery. Ever since I rode REs, I simply hated high Revving machines everytime I wasn't out on Highways. My Recent Trip trip to 4Km Altitude region made this even more concrete for me.
- Seating Position of 800mm was pretty nice for Old Himalayan. Being 5'7ish, it always intimated me but then I got hold of Dominar so I am sure Himalayan won't be too far difficult.

The only thing that bothers me around Himalayan (still) after getting the Dominar is that riding 190+Kg motorcycles in City is not cakewalk. It gets worse when you have a high revving motor that gets crazy hot in traffic.

=> I would like to ask the old Himalayan Owners, how difficult the riding in city has been for you ? The front of Himalayan is light weight compared to Dominar, right ? (I'm under impression that this is probably the reason why I dislike its handling in City).
=> Also, Do you think that this new motor could make things worse (wr.t. heatup in city traffic), given its redefined power figures ?

The other options I have been thinking:
A. Scram 400 (high revving motor/seating height) would make it difficult for city commute, however weighs less than Himalayan.
B. KTM Adv(s): (high revving/seating height). [Weight advantage looks great though].
C. Wait for RE to release a Scram based on new 450cc Block ? (Actually Scram 411 was the bike I would have purchased instead of Dominar but the ride quality after 90kmph felt stressing on the engine hence I had to let it go, a bad decision it was :/).

Speaking of Australia, it would be amazing to see it being ridden on an adventure by Adam Riemann (Motology Films).

As an ex-Himlayan owner, i felt riding the Himalayan in city traffic is a daunting task. The very first culprit is the super hard clutch which sometimes made my wrist go numb. Second, the engine used to heat, very much enough to make me super uncomfortable, observed this more when the bike ran on RE Liquid Gun engine oil, there was a marked reduction though when I switched to Amsoil. Neverthless, if you don't face traffic, the bike is pretty comfortable.
On the new Himalayan, the saving grace is liquid cooling which should be able to keep the engine cool, will reserve my comments till i ride the bike. Hope RE has lightened the clutch.

Seeing this coming up on my feed was a pleasant surprise. Noraly is in India, a full circle for her as she first set out on her world travels on a Himalayan from Delhi. I am sure you all know Basanti. Having watched literally every video she's put up, seeing her here back again is special.

Here you go, with the new Himalayan in its full glory. Please do like her videos, subscribe to her channel, she makes really good content. Cheers!

Right on all points. 18500 km in 16 months on my 2022 BS6 Himmy and I can only add the refinement, brakes, slow acceleration. Perfectly tuned for offroad, but a die-for proposition if ridden anything above 40 kmph if a cow or pedestrian suddenly comes in the way. The 450 certainly needs to have much better brakes when its got almost 65% more power. The stock CEAT tyres are absolute rubbish on road and wet grip and the rear tyre center wore out quickly (13800 km) due to ABS intervening repeatedly and sliding when tried to ride like a 390 ADV for instance. Quick overtakes, yes at 40 kmph maybe, but not more than that and it wont come to a fast stop after that speed. Note these observations is for city.

I also feel the 1st and 2nd gears need to be a little taller like the others. 3rd gear is where is at its comfort, anywhere from 20 to 60 is possible. The refinement on that 450 seems to be great! It sounds like a sweeter version of the 390.

One more observation is those round mirrors, they do not offer a wide view of whats behind, totally useless on highway as they vibrate above 60 kmph. They need to be like the Double take mirrors so you can see that tiny scooter trying to wedge his way in through that tiny gap you are standing next to.
