You are wasting precious time waiting for a product from RE. The Hunter 350, the Super Meteor 650 and the Scram 411 are in the pipeline for 2022 and 23. By the time they get their act together and HERO comes along and spoils the party- you are well advised to buy what you want right now and enjoy life till covid and its nasty variants allow.

Ride now.

2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450cc spied testing for the first time

A diversified portfolio with new products like Himalayan 450cc will help Royal Enfield to stay ahead in the game

As part of its long-term strategy, Royal Enfield is working to launch an average of one new/updated product every quarter. One of these is Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, which has just been spied. It is expected to be available for sale in first quarter of 2023. Although the basic silhouette looks familiar to Himalayan 411, Himalayan 450 utilizes an entirely new platform.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 styling and features
Codenamed K1, Himalayan 450 comes across as a premium Adv bike. It can emerge as a viable alternative to the likes of KTM 390 Adventure, BMW G310GS and other similar Adv bikes. The core Himalayan DNA is retained, as evident with features such as round headlamp and rear-view mirrors, raised front fender and matching frame construction. Use of spoke wheels, shod with knobby tubeless tyres is another feature that’s common to both bikes. Himalayan 450 is likely to use 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel, the same setup as that of current Himalayan. Just like Himalayan 411, users can expect relaxed riding ergonomics with Himalayan 450. It’s made possible with features such as centrally placed footpegs, thick saddle and pulled-back, wide handlebar. Upswept exhaust in metallic finish is another similar looking feature.

In terms of things that give Himalayan 450 a unique identity, the bike gets a compact windscreen, trendier fuel tank design, and single-piece seat. It could be equipped with a new digital instrument console. The bike is likely to ditch much of the exoskeleton that can be seen with Himalayan 411. For users who may need it, the front and rear rack could be offered as an accessory.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450cc – engine and specs
Powering Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 will be a liquid cooled, single cylinder motor that generates 40 bhp of max power. Just like other Adv bikes, Himalayan 450 will focus on delivering better performance in low and mid-range. As of now, torque for Himalayan 450 has not been revealed. Existing Himalayan is powered by a 411cc motor that churns out 24.3 bhp and 32 Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed, constant mesh gearbox. In comparison, KTM 390 Adv is powered by a 373cc motor that delivers 43 bhp and 37 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. BMW G310GS is powered by a 313cc motor that generates 34 bhp and 28 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Himalayan 450 will be utilizing a trellis frame and is likely to be lighter than Himalayan 411. It will have USD forks at front, as compared to conventional telescopic forks used with Himalayan 411. Front suspension travel and ground clearance could be on the higher side. Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is expected to be priced at around Rs 2.7 lakh (ex-sh). It will be cheaper than KTM 390 Adventure (~ Rs 3.28 lakh) and BMW G310GS (~ Rs 3 lakh).

re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

If this news is true, this is what RE should have launched the Scram11 with. As a Himalayan owner, i find the concept of the Scram411 laughable with the current engine. Scramblers are supposed to be fast revvy, fun to ride motorcycles which have good acceleration, a strong mid range and an above average top end. The current Himalayan has a strong bottom end, slow and steady mid range and hardly any top end.

Look at the Yezdi Scrambler; same engine like the Yezdi Adventure but rides / is tuned so differently. The Yezdi Adventure rides like the RE Himalayan as it should - but the Yezdi Scrambler rides very different to the Yezdi Adventure. The RE Scram 411 on the other hand rides exactly like the RE Himalayan. Thats not Scrambler virtue. A long stroke Scrambler is no Scrambler.

re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

I wish RE does not follow Bajaj's strategy of creating a new segment every 20ccs and just retire old 411 Himalayan completely.
But that leaves Scram with 411 engine and it is too new a product to receive such major upgrade.
May be that was the plan all along? Move Himalayan to higher segment and create a confusing product like Scram 411 to fill in the space left by old Himalayan.

As an ex- Bs4 Himalayan Owner, happy to see RE bringing out the new version with a Liquid Cooled engine. The LS410 seriously needs a weight reduction. Although the BS4 was marred with multiple issues, it still was the most practical package, simple and devoid of complex electronics. The top end is what the Himalayan really lacked. I was hoping for a twin cylinder engine.

This will be a good adv, hope they reduce the weight and decent power delivery. Still will have a tough competition if tvs and hero release their Dakar rally 450cc motorcycle replicas. And the way hero performed this year sure they will be at top if released. Hope they dont delay the release further.

A reliable little birdie chirps the following
- Royal Enfield is going back into its bag of tricks that resulted in the game changing 650 twins.
- This will be a global product that is designed to be a proper globetrotter.
- Reliability should be bulletproof (no pun intended), and even better than the 650 twins.
- It will have a long stroke, low revving motor. Expect the engine to be a gem.
- Output figures should be around 40 BHP and 40 NM of torque.
- While the existing Himalayan 411 is road biased, the new bike is being engineered to have more offroading capabilities.
- The ergonomics will be conducive to standing and riding.
- The suspension will have upside down forks from Kayaba.
- And finally, the targetted pricing is less than that of the KTM Adv 390.

Even if 70% of the above is true, I'm adding this to my garage. I was expecting the Scram to be having the 450 so that they can test and thrash it out in the market and fix the niggles, before releasing it on the Himalayan. Well, if wishes could be horses... Anyways, 40hp and 40Nm is just perfect for our conditions and my way of riding.

re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

This sure is a garage worthy bike for someone who has loved the current generation H for like 6 years now. I hope RE is considering TC/AMU for better rider safety. This for sure is a wishlist item from a prospective buyer who ended up with a bag of bones when the Conti didnt cut the power upon losing traction.

I hope all the points you mentioned are true. Did your birdie tell you anything about weight reduction?
The biggest obstacle to Himalayan's offroad capability is its weight.

If I translate these points, Long-stroke leads to a long connecting road and heavy crank to avoid stalling at low revs and to accommodate them you need a bigger crankcase. End result heavy engine.

In all current-gen RE's the engine is the single most heavy part also the toughest part if you want to do weight reduction on the bike.

I can just hope they are also focused on reducing the weight of the bike and making it a proper dual sport and make a competent alternative to Dr-Z400.

The bike looks huge in the picture. Hope the seat height won’t be more than 820mm. And also, is that a heat sink behind the headlight? LED perhaps? If the speculated 40 hp and NMs are true, this will be a yummy proposition!

Please help me understand why they did not go 500 CC and give an alternative to the Honda 500X. That should be superb VFM right! What's the limitation in just 50CC more?

It all comes down to who release the 450 first. Tvs rtr 450 rally and hero 450rr with their immense dakar experiance will defenitely be better but they are very skeptical in their approach. They should have started selling the bikes long back and still there is no sign. Atleast RE is taking the chance and if they can keep the weight below 150 would be a good one to ride offroad.

Hero is proving its mettle in the Dakar races time and again. But they will definitely take their sweet own time to get such models into the market. People are waiting for bigger transroaders to hit the market (300-400cc rumoured models) and even concept-based production models. Hero is better known for pulling the guillotine on promising models (ZiR and HX250R-I'm looking at you). As of now, they seem to be basking in the sales of commuters.

As for TVS, they took the plunge and brought race-oriented technology to us masses and gave brilliant products such as the RTR 2004V and the gorgeous (GORGEOUS I say) RR310 with all the racing experience they had gained over the years. As far as I can hope, TVS will be the first one to get into this affordable big size transroader after RE (RE will definitely be the first one to land a punch in this segment).

TL,DR : RE will be the first one to bring an affordable middleweight transroader, followed by TVS. Hero is somewhere distant in the RVM.

The Dakar bikes for TVS is a Sherco bike with TVS sticker and the Hero bike is a evolution of BMW 450 made by SpeedBrain. Sherco can start selling the bikes in India utilising their TVS partnership if they want. But these are very low volume products (check what happened with KX/KLX or RMZs).
The bikes of the motorsports division are not coming to India anytime soon. Heck not all factory riders get to race on those 450s, it a distant dream for us mango people.
