Happy discussing. It seems the rally riders, who are part of the media rides are putting up a show. Either the embargo (doesn't seem working) or the cold in that region is keeping the social media posts at minimum!

Reviews will be out on 10th November which is after the launch on 7th November.

I like what I see and would love to see my friends get this. As for me, this is not my type yet! I'll definitely test ride this whenever available

Ride safe,

Wait, what? Haven't you been prohibited from visiting RE showroom or any bike showroom for that matter? :-)

It's a tubeless Radial tyre that has a tube inside it. It's just the same way RE 650 twins (Interceptor & continental GT) were launched in 2018, tubeless tyres with a tube on steel rims. Plus as this is an adventure style motorcycle, spoke wheels are a default choice rather than an alloy wheel.

On rear tyre, I quite like the tyre tread pattern and steel belted radial even if it has H speed rating. Only aspect ratio is bit high, was expecting 140/70R17.

No biggie. Can always get them painted/electroplated golden.

Cheers,

Jay

EDIT:

From the leaked specs, some interesting details.

1. The motor is slightly oversquare (84X80 bore stroke), compared to the very oversquare motors of the KTM (80X62 something) and BMW GS 310R. And peak torque at 5,500 rpm should give the bike solid poke lower down the rev band. Lively much?

2. Compression ratio is highest-ever for an Enfield. 11.5:1. But still lower than the KTM 390 and BMW 310. Nearly every other BS6 car out there runs 12:1 or higher. So, no worries here!

3. Ride-by-wire. Again, an Enfield first.

4. Tubeless spoked rims: Should be 50K extra. I'd happily pay for them.

5. Slipper clutch and 6 speed gearbox. Very nice!

6 196 kilo kerb weight. Solid 22 kilos lighter than my Interceptor. Can be made 5-6 kilos lighter by swapping the exhaust.

Cheers,

Jay

Thanks for sharing. Apart from the tubeless spoke-wheels and color scheme, what would be the other specification differences among the three variants that we are seeing here!!

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Very nice. I am yet again surprised by RE.

This is definitely the right direction in which RE is moving. On paper this bike looks close to perfect with a powerful engine.

I’m not a big fan of RE but credit where it’s due. Other than their 350cc motors they are doing a good job now. Even the J-series 350cc engine is a much smoother and better platform than UCE. It’s a different matter that I am not interested in any of the bikes they use that engine on.

But I’m certainly an admirer of Interceptor 650 and now the new Himalayan 452. I really hope this version will stand true to it’s name both the bike and the engine. There’s nothing worse than putting your hard earned money on such an passion and then deal with subpar sometimes even critically failed products.

RE started by a bit of posing and good marketing with a sub-par product i.e. the Classic 350. But with time they have certainly developed new and better platforms and that I cannot help but respect.

The new Himalayan too certainly has everything you could ask for in a modern touring bike.

Alloy wheels don’t make sense on this platform but they’ve provided with tubeless cross spoke rims.

The display is something I’ve not even seen in bikes thrice the price. Suspensions looks sorted and mature at least on paper.

Seat height is adjustable from a very accessible 800mm-845mm so even the vertically challenged riders can have fun on it. Though I’d like to know more about it. How is it done? By adjustable suspension, different seats or a combination of both?

All LED lighting is a must these days. Tail looks compact and well designed with integrated stop lights in indicators(LED) and that stubby well sounding exhaust which doesn’t seem unnecessarily long and heavy. I’m sure even if they don’t provide different exhausts the aftermarket companies will have a field day on it and have many lighter or better sounding exhausts in no time.

Ride by wire, switchable dual channel abs, traction control, different riding modes. Everything seems to be in order you can’t find faults in it at least on specs. Real world reliability and performance is still to be seen. I think it won’t be too bad. Some issues and niggles are always there in new products but there shouldn’t be anything major, rest time will tell…

Though I’m not a big fan of their LED head light designs these days. I like a round headlight as much as the next motorcycle enthusiast who respects classics but they could’ve designed it with better DRLs and design. Though that’s something the accessory market can easily handle. And it’s subjective too. Maybe a more radical headlight design would’ve been better though. Or maybe RE wanted to stay true to the classic image they’ve cultivated so they wanted a round headlight. I’m sure its a decision based in cost as well because it’s the same headlight as the 650cc bikes, correct me if I’m wrong.

Plus they’ve gotten so much better at marketing even with time. Sure they were always one of the best, they sold lakhs of those crap UCE.

Bike is Himalayan, engine is Sherpa, full loaded on tech and hardware, base variant is base, mid is Pass and the top is Summit.

And like someone rightly pointed out, there is a growing interest in RE in the western world too as they are simple, good and affordable bikes. Especially the 650cc twin and the Himalayan, this one will be a bigger hit if it proves to be reliable and niggle free. Europeans at key R&D positions. Truly a global company.

TBH whenever I think of expanding my garage this Himalayan will be in consideration for sure.

Ride Safe

Tubeless tires can certainly take tubes. When you have a puncture that is too big for a sealant/plug, it is alright to use a tube and continue. It is recommended for long distance tourers with tubeless tires to have a plug kit and a spare tube.

It seems the adjustment is right under the seats, select the height of the latch that locks the saddle with the frame and that's about it. Looks like they have got two variants for the saddle and both can be adjusted to get that range from 805mm to 845mm.

Came across a nice informative video comparing the technical specifications of the outgoing 411 with the 452.

Pay attention at 3:40 when he talks about the much discussed cross spoked tubeless wheels.

Welcome, I assume mostly electronics. The navigation and riding modes may not be present in the base variant!

Intersting to see how much you can configure your bike on MIY platform. For example, current panniers set cost 30k. One can easily add 50k worth of accessories (even more)

Rally seat/touring seat
Rally rear fenders
Rally wide handlebars
Rally bash ppate
Touring mirrors
Touring visor
Metal brace hand guards
Radiator guard
Crash bars
Footpegs
Headlight grill

Plus just wait for the aftermarket accessories to explode on this model. But I would recommend to stick to OEM parts only initially.

Happy riding,

Ok, now that is disappointing. There is a lot of interest in these wheels so I hope RE sorts this out, I sure would wait for them to be available and not want to install them later.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Here’s some interesting information filtering in from social media.

Tubeless spokes info by Bikewale

Well, here’s an interesting bit of info on the widely discussed ‘tubeless spokes’ for the new Himalayan 452.

Per the social media post by “TheBikerWithAbs” the certification for the tubeless spokes hasn’t yet been issued in India, and thus, wouldn’t be available at the time of launch. It would take some time to get it certified, albeit without a clear timeline.
The export models do get these tubeless spokes as an optional extra right from the time of launch.

The new Himalayan 452 has some amazing features, and is gearing up to be a very well rounded offering for biking enthusiasts in the country. But, this small detail of the tubeless spokes not being available from the get-go seems to spoil the excitement a bit. Looks like RE took the decision to have tubeless spokes as an accessory very late in the development & testing process. This is sort of verified by the complete lack of testing mules shod with the tubeless spokes, that have been spotted over the last couple of years. It’s also apparent from the lack of media bikes having the tubeless spokes.

Hope it doesn’t take long to come to market, unlike the time it took for RE to offer alloys for the 650 twins.

The seat has 2 slots beneath it with which you can adjust the height, so no separate seat. It is a simple mechanism while fitting the seat. Saw it in a youtube video today morning.
