Throttle input, as I understand, is directly proportional to a particular rpm and thereby the speed achieved. So, if you could please elaborate what you mean when you say throttle input required to maint a particular rpm changes but the rpm to speed ratio remains unchanged at higher altitudes.

Thanks in advance.

Assuming the clutch isnt slipping (due to wear), the link from your engine to the tyre is a rigid link. that is to say, the ratio of the rpm of engine and rpm of the wheel will remain constant. It will not matter whether the vehicle is going up an incline or down it, nor whether it is at sea level or up in the himalayas.

Throttle input on the other hand, is not at all proportional to a particular rpm. throttle input can be understood as the load the engine has to bear to achieve a particular rpm. Hence, suppose if your bike is rolling downhill, no throttle input would be required to maintain say 2000 rpm also, but if it is to be ridden uphill, significant accelerator/throttle input would be required as compared to a plain surface.

Hence, to bring back the original point, the engine rpm would remain constant for a particular speed indicated on the speedometer, regardless of whether the bike (or car) is in the himalayas or at sea level, but one would have to give a higher throttle input / accelerator twist in the mountains because the air is less dense there, compared to at the sea level.

Hope this clarifies your doubt. Feel free to ask for further clarifications if required.

Why does the ODO read 6xx odd Kms on the TFT?

That in all probability is the trip odo which most people reset after reaching Leh which is a major stop and fuel calculation also needs to be done very meticulously here onwards to avoid getting stuck at odd places.

Going by that analogy, the distance Leh - Khardungla - Hunder - Turtuk - Agham - Shyok - Spangmik - Hanle is around 620 kms.

The screenshot is from the video of the final leg from Hanle to Umlingla. And there are various options nowadays to do the route I mentioned above. So +/- few kms the odo reading seems actual and correct.

re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

We will never know what Royal Enfield did or didn’t do, proper testing or not, quality control or lack thereof. It’s also impossible to guess what went wrong in an accident with a few snaps or videos without verification. We will know the actual status after the bike is launched and actual owners start giving their ownership experiences.

I would never buy an RE product on launch, it’s safer and makes sense to wait and watch. Let others give their views and buy only after a year at the minimum if interested.

Cheers

The Himalayan 452 / 45x keeps getting yummier by the day. The latest video posted by Noraly / Itchyboots shows the digital mode. Can’t wait for the 7th of November and the ride videos to hit our screens. (Mods kindly check if this has been shared earlier)

re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

More and more I'm starting to believe that this is going to be one epic, but expensive bike. I have a hard time thinking that the bike that Noraly uses will be cheaper than say 3.4 L. Full-map navigation is something out of a 1000cc class adventure bike. This looks more and more like a mini-Tenere 700 to me rather than anything like we're usually used to...maybe even the KTM Adv 390 won't be able to compete properly. I'm going to pull the trigger sometime later next year, and man oh man do I have my choices cut out for me.

re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Royal Enfield has just dropped the development video of the new H452. A couple of points that stood out:

The engine is being referred to as the Sherpa 450. There has been a lot of conversation about the Sherpa name, with some suggesting that it could be the name of an upcoming motorcycle. But i guess it is the engine, the real workhorse that is being called so.

A dyno chart comparing the torque output of the new platform shows that it is producing a healthy peak torque of 40 Nm at 5000 RPM.
