2022 Bajaj Chetak e-scooter to pack more punch

Bajaj is said to be working on a more potent version of the Chetak electric scooter. It could be launched later this year.

According to a type approval document, the Chetak's electric motor has been upgraded. It now produces a peak output of 4.2 kW and a continuous output of 4.0 kW.

Reports suggest that the Bosch-sourced electric motor will be replaced with an indigenous one. The former had a peak output of 4.08 kW and a continuous output of 3.8 kW.

Bajaj is reportedly in the process of localizing various components of the e-scooter. The revised model could also get an upgraded battery pack. Although, details regarding this are still unclear.

This looks promising. I just hope Mr. Bajaj does not indulge in taking digs at the competition, but rather help this industry grow by setting an example.

The new more powerful motor is manufactured by Flash Electronics India Pvt. Ltd. It's also located in Chakkan, Pune. The older motor was from Bosch.

Re: 2022 Bajaj Chetak e-scooter to pack more punch

Looks pretty interesting. All I'm waiting for is a dual disc and a dual-channel ABS setup. A decent amount of power 60-80kmps sustained which is good for at least 80-90 kms would also be nice.
It could very well turn out to be a perfect household errand/city pottering/grocery shopping gig setup.

P.S: Full size helmet within the boot is another mandatory requirement.

Re: 2022 Bajaj Chetak e-scooter to pack more punch

Launched sometime in April 2020, an upgrade within two years, though very positive technically and for marketing purpose, leaves the owners of the first generation Chetak EV's in the lurch. They embraced the nascent EV technology offering from Bajaj Auto and some of them could now regret not waiting till 2022 to get the "more muscular" Chetak EV.

I have a friend who is a happy owner of a brand new pink Chetak, bought a few months back. He is very satisfied with the range of about 90 kms, the 3.8 - 4 KW power output and the speeds of 40-50 kmph in the city. The top speed is 70 kmph and very rarely he has accelerated to reach this speed. It cost him Rs 122,000/- on road with subsidies by the Union and Maharashtra governments. It looks a bit bulkier than any other Bajaj scooter made so far.

Hence, I would suggest wannabe buyers to keep on checking the latest in the EV scenario and only buy their drive after EV technology reaches a mature stage and takes off well.

Re: 2022 Bajaj Chetak e-scooter to pack more punch

Bajaj Chetak to be sold only via dedicated outlets next year onwards.

Quote:
These exclusive showrooms will showcase Chetak EVs, facilitate test rides, register bookings and take delivery.

The network of Chetak exclusive showrooms will expand by sometime around March or April 2023.

In addition, the dealerships will also set up exclusive Chetak service centres to carry out maintenance or repair work on the EVs.
