Bajaj is investing Rs. 300 crore in the new factory that will have a production capacity of 5,00,000 EVs per annum. The unit is being built at the site of the original Chetak scooter factory.

According to Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto Ltd., the company's R&D division is now focused on creating EV solutions for the future.

The new factory will feature automated manufacturing processes using robots. It is spread over half a million sq. feet and will employ around 800 people. Bajaj Auto's vendors will invest an additional Rs. 250 crore in the project.

An all electric Qute with basic ammenties like ac, seats with head restraints for all four occupants, 75 kmph top speed, a real world range of 150 km with an affordable price tag of 3.5 to 4.5 lakhs could make it a compelling package. A perfect solution for the commuters with an all weather protection IMHO.

This was exactly what Nano offered when it launched. Save for the power train may be.

Re: Bajaj to set up EV manufacturing unit in Pune

I heard from a source that nothing new has been added. An existing assembly line was made Electric only and that division/section was renamed EV R&D to get central/state government benefits for EV manufacturing.
