Re: My Royal Enfield needs engine work | Should I repair or replace?

I've been riding my Royal Enfield's for over 25 years now - its one bike which definitely outlasts the rider. I've had phases where I've stored them, abandoned them as well as kept them in mint condition.

Sell the RE if you want another model - engine refinement, riding style, comfort etc. The model that you have does not have any vintage value. Its a regular UCE so its just sentimental value. You'll always be able to buy another UCE engine bike.

Repair the engine if you are happy with riding the same bike. From a technical perspective, the RE engine, including the UCE one is an engine which can be rebuilt repeatedly. This is very different from lets say a Ducati where an engine rebuild is considered problematic.

So your call ought to be based on the key question - do you really want another model or will you be happy with the same bike?

You sound like someone who rides for fun rather than to get from point A to point B. So it's very important to take a call based on what would make you happy - even if its a more expensive option.

Re: My Royal Enfield needs engine work | Should I repair or replace?

Bikes clearly stay in our hearts forever, perhaps holding stronger emotional appeal than our cars. My 2000 Hero Honda Splendor stays with me till date. Many cars have come and gone, but not the Splendor.

I'd say get the work done at either the FNG or at FE, whichever has been more reliable in your experience.

You're going to smile at the the bike, and the bike back at you, for a very long time

Repair and keep your RE for as long as possible

Since you are planning to relocate to Bangalore, there are plenty of destinations within a day's relaxed ride from Bangalore (Coorg, Wayanad, Bandipur, Ooty, Yercaud, Yelagiri, Chitradurga Fort, Hampi, Chikmagalur, Halabedu, Gokarna and so on)

If you still prefer a new bike , also consider Honda H'ness CB. Honda reliability in a retro avatar

You should definitely keep your ride. it will be much cheaper. New vehicles with advanced technology will keep on pouring in.

In case u want it to be overhauled, please do visit NCR motorcycles in Okhla, Jamia nagar. That guy is a specialist for RE and has been in the business since 1965. He also has many videos over Youtube and provides you a genuine solution. His contact details are 09210325810, 9911464687. But do take an appointment first because his schedule is really tight.
