Not a Super Meteor owner, but this sounds way less. Typically, even with harsh braking habit, it takes about 10,000-15,000km; but considering this is a heavy bike, they should last at least half to two-thirds of that, with harsh braking.

I think all brake pads have a notch, to visually inspect the wear. Did you yourself inspect the wear? Also, the maintenance schedule chart in your manual might have info on when they're typically replaced- just might, not sure.

This is a common thing with Super meteor. I am part of a group of about 300 Super meteor owners. Most have complained of this issue especially if you are riding a lot in the city in traffic. The brakes especially the rear wear out in 3000 kms. Haven't found a reliable alternative yet.

It is indeed the rear brake pads, the alternative suggested was use non ceramic pads which costs ₹ 300, but this will compromise on the braking. So went with the ceramic ones.

Re: Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650cc, now unveiled

I have been waiting for a long time to buy a cruiser bike that supports the riding posture of my current Avenger. Although Super Meteor comes very close to it, it needs certain modifications to make it more user-friendly. Someone suggested I buy a used bike and try Bulleteer Customs to make the modifications.
But these guys said they do not do partial custom work, they only undertake full modification and I should go back to their Instagram page and make 1-2 choices so they can get a better idea.
My requirements are simple and honestly, their customs are too blingy for my taste.

So I am here to seek your help. Is there any place which can make small modifications to Royal Enfield?

My main asks are
1. Soften suspension
2. Reduce seat height
3. Pull the handlebar further towards the rider so my hands can reach without over-extending my shoulders
4. Reduce front weight so that the right U-turns are not too hard.

Re: Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650cc, now unveiled

Hi, I have recently bought my Super Meteor 650 on 17th July. Since then I have completed 2000kms. I have actually done all the modifications which you have asked. My answers to your questions reads as below:
1. I have changed the factory settings on the stock suspension from 1 to 3 (Softer side). This has actually helped me in my solo trips with luggage (appx 5 days). There is another option available - Thunderbird 350/500 Suspension or Hagon Suspension (Made in UK, also expensive) gets easily fitted but may compromise with warranty.
2. I have added Gel in both the front and rear pillion seats. That also are very comfortable with soft suspension combo
3. Handlebar raiser from ZANA. My height for your reference is 5.11. This actually feels way better ergonomically
4. I didn't try this. On highways actually the weight helps specially during hard brakings if needed and also maintain high speed stability.
Hope I tried to answer your questions.
Thanks

Have you tried using the Thunderbirds suspension? Or know of anyone so that we can get some feedback. My worry on this modification is that the Super Meteor weighs 50 kilos more. There's a difference in the height of the two shock absorbers also. I am a little skeptical about how it will work.

Re: Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650cc, now unveiled

I know an owner in Bangalore who has installed the Thunderbird 500 shock absorber. And he is using is it for more than 6 months. He is extremely satisfied. But one thing he mentioned that speeds above 120 are not so confident. I have also checked with one of the service technician in Pune, and he said it can be installed. But he doesn't have any idea on the performance. I will go with the Hagon (if opted) but maybe after 6 months (need more review of the current soft suspension)

I had covered 6K kms in 1 year and completed my 3rd service at 6k in April.
My brake pads were at 50% wear.
Now completed another 1K kms and will be going for service next week.
I had done a 400km ride from Goa to Kolhapur and back via Chorla ghats. During this trip my brakes were used a lot due to bad roads.
I do not ride it much in city or or small travel like 3-4kms .

Can let you know after my service where it stands.

Also my friend who has same bike and completed 15K kms has changed his brake pads at 6K kms and then 14K kms. And a chain set at 14K kms.

Re: Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650cc, now unveiled

Hello, I need a little guidance. My friend bought a Super Meteor 650 last week, and we’ve ridden together for 360 km over the last 6 days. Today, after a 130 km ride to the hills, the check engine light came on. A notification also popped up on the phone advising us to visit the dealership. I tried searching online but couldn’t pinpoint the exact issue. Most posts I found suggest it could be a faulty sensor. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Any insights on possible solutions would be helpful.

We plan to visit the service center on Monday if the light stays on.

Thank you

What is the effect on ground clearance when the suspension is set at the softest?
If you don't mind asking what is the rider + pillion weight on your SM650 (Mine would be ~200kg, rider+pillion)
What is your riding situation?
Is SM650 manageable as a commuter in a city with moderate traffic?
How is the experience when crossing over speed breakers that are in plenty in any city?

I am considering it for my single motorcycle garage. Any insights would be appreciated.

On not so great Hyderabad roads, ground clearance has never been an issue with 160 kgs weight. I did a 500 km ride last weekend with some nasty speed breakers along the way. Pillion rider will not feel happy about the jerk - however the bike itself would not bottom out or scrap underbelly.

It is my daily driver (apart from rainy days) - and very manageable. Known limitations are large turning radius and high kerb weight (240 kgs) - can make it difficult to back up the bike when parked in gravel/dirt parking lots.

Do take a long test ride - especially in areas you may frequently ride post purchase. My personal experience has been fantastic and the bike is going to stay in my garage for a very long time.

+1 - after seeing the videos of upgrades (one owner in Thailand has some good videos with DIY instructions). Any pointers on cost will definitely help.

Thanks for sharing the experience. That gives me more confidence. I will definitely take a longer test drive.

I have ordered the Hagon Shock Absorbers from Hitchcock Motorcycles, UK. I am expecting to get delivered and installed by 15th November. Probably then I can share my experience.
