re: New TVS 125cc motorcycle (Fiero?) to be launched on 16th Sept

No. No. No. No. No.

TVS, please tell us that this is a cruel joke. Everything about this product is wrong!

Looks - Put the design team on hiatus grade wrong.
Headlamp design - Fire the lead designer grade wrong.
Engine capacity - My 2 year old nephew can tell you its wrong grade wrong.
Engine note - Cover your ears at the 1:10 minute mark of the ad grade wrong.
Seat design - Even a blind man can tell you its wrong grade wrong.
Appeal to a completely different audience that cannot associate with the Fiero name - Wasted money on market research grade wrong.
Catchy tagline - Kick your marketing team grade wrong.

Where TVS has excelled is in poorly reinventing a classic in 2021 that shares nothing in common, with its much loved predecessor. On that front, I would give them a score of 100 / 100 !

Come on TVS, we expect better from you. Here is some free market research. If you have to bring back the Fiero,
- take the Apache platform,
- make it look like the old Fiero and / or Fiero FX (quite a looker!)
- detune it a bit,
- drop some goodies like adjustable suspension etc,
- give it more sedate power delivery,
- position it above your 125s but below the Apache 160,
- mint money.

re: New TVS 125cc motorcycle (Fiero?) to be launched on 16th Sept

It is odd seeing a 125 cc bike teaser with racetracks being shown. TVS is well known for its racing endeavours, but nobody is buying a 125cc to drive fast. So there is no use making a fast 125cc. They could have made a 150 or 160 cc or could have made the Fiero their Retro Modern motorcycle lineup, just like how the Apache is for performance bikes.

This just feels like a wasted opportunity, the bike fits nowhere in the market, and would certainly do with 25 - 50cc more.

Could be the last attempt from TVS in the 125cc segment. I kinda like the overall looks. Expect that it is really wicked as the original Fiero

re: New TVS 125cc motorcycle (Fiero?) to be launched on 16th Sept

I am seeing in the internet mentioning that it's going to be a fiero and it's a 125cc. Just asking, was there any press release from TVS that it's going to be a 125cc? Is there a chance it could be that 165RP that was trademark by TVS few days back?
The 160 4v has a single seat and in the trailer we see split seats similar to 200 4v. This could potential be just not a commuter and that's the reason few shots of track is also shown. I am hoping TVS is going to surprise everyone on Sept 16th or atleast I am expecting a surprise from TVS on the D-Day

No way TVS could name this as Fiero. This bike could be the TVS Raider. The 'R' logo also points out the same.

For 'Fiero' nameplate, TVS should launch a detuned RTR with retro looks as @neil.jericho said.

The Fiero was the only bike that could scorch the RX 100 back then. To deserve this moniker the Brand needs to do more. Hope much thought has gone into this launch

The prominent R logo gives me hope that this is not a Fiero. Fingers crossed!

Or even Retron, as trademarked before.

re: New TVS 125cc motorcycle (Fiero?) to be launched on 16th Sept

One of the teasers flashed ET-Fi (economy tuned FI). Pretty conservative for a "Wicked Ride." The exhaust note didn't hint otherwise either.

But it's coming out with a colour instrument panel + LED lights + split seats? And a fair bit of effort poured into the design, branding and marketing.

Guess they're trying to one up the 125 pulsars while trying to kind of grab at the duke 125.

re: New TVS 125cc motorcycle (Fiero?) to be launched on 16th Sept

Please do not misname a product which is sedate and economy oriented a Fiero. Even if it a fiery and fiesty 125 CC, reserving the Fiero name plate for a 160CC+ segment bike would bring nostalgia and connect. 125 CC is not premium enough anymore and except for Duke 125 (which doesn't make sense to me), no one shopping in this segment is looking for a pseudo race oriented 125cc bike.

KTM and Bajaj would like to differ. Pretty sure its aimed at teens and college students.

Yes, It's definitely not 'Fiero'. In one of the teaser videos, we get a glimpse of the initial letters of the name and also the last letter. There's a possibility of it being either 'Rider' or 'Raider' as you've suggested. Not entirely sure if the second alphabet is an 'I' or an 'A'

I kind of get what you are saying, but once again, the entire 125cc biking segment never made sense to me.

As a college student myself, I've seen people like me get literally every 150 and now the 160cc segment bikes. None of them seems to buy 125cc. The only affordable 125cc performance bike is the NS125, which is just 8k shy off the FZ, a proper 150cc. The rest of the 125cc are mere commuters.

And unlike Europe, there are no 125cc class bikes or license restrictions demanding the needs of fast bikes at just 125cc, restrictions which demand something like the Duke or RC 125.

It is not even like there is a demand for such a segment, the Duke 125 is a premium product, a beginner's KTM, while the NS125 is neither commuter nor sporty. The Pulsar 125 sells, but once again, it is slightly faster than a commuter bike, and not even close to the performance of the rest of the Pulsar range.

So, even though your points about the youth needing lighter yet fast bikes is true, I personally believe that there is already the 150 - 200cc segment catering to this segment. Still do not understand the rationale behind TVS's move here, and that too of naming one of their famous nameplates on this.

Blame Bajaj for this, they are diluting the Pulsar band too much and want to sell them at every level. As you said 125 segment works for commuter and in abroad they use it to around the license restriction i.e. CB125.

But it does not matter to them if it makes sense or not as long as it sells.
