TVS Apache RTR 165 RP launched at Rs. 1.45 lakh

TVS has filed a trademark application for the 'TVS Apache RTR 165 RP' name. This has led to speculations that the bike maker could be working on a sportier version of the Apache RTR 160 4V.

Reports suggest that the Apache RTR 165 RP could use the same 159.7cc, single-cylinder engine as the RTR 160 4V. The engine could be rebored to increase its displacement. In its current form, it produces 17 BHP and 15 Nm.

TVS has also trademarked the term 'TVS RP Race Performance'. It is said that the RTR 165 RP could be sold under the bike maker's 'Race Performance' sub-brand.

re: TVS Apache RTR 165 RP launched at Rs. 1.45 lakh

So that's Apache RTR 165 RS aka
Apache 'Racing' Throttle Response 165, 'Race' Performance.

Next, Apache-RTR-165-RP-RS aka
Apache 'Racing' Throttle Response 165, 'Race' Performance, 'Racing' Sports.

Coming to the bike, in its segment it looks great (bar the Elvis Presley sideburn like headlamp fairing) and loaded with features.

This bike is fairly successful and I have seen plenty of them on road and wish TVS gives us some customization option to this too like the Apache RR 310.

So TVS is doing literally everything except to give more power and a 6th gear to the 200 4V?

That aside, it is really appreciable how aggressive TVS has become in the past few years with new products and all these constant and innovative updates when rivals are sleeping (I'm looking at you Bajaj!)

About this bike, I do not really think TVS needs to upgrade the motorcycle's performance, as at 17.6hp it is still the most powerful motorcycle in it's segment by a considerable margin (although I wouldn't mind a performance upgrade as my humble Bajaj V15 is already looking for a garage mate to handle the highway duties! )

A fully faired Apache was sorely missed all these years! Hope this 'TVS Apache RTR 165 RP' is that

Looking forward to this. Hoping that the upgrades don't push up the pricing dramatically. The standard is a great bike as is anyway.

IMO, the lack of 6th gear is more painfully noticeable than the power output. Be it the 160 cc variant or the 200cc, Apache bikes have fantastic acceleration but aren't fun to cruise along. Doing 200-300km trips is far more taxing on an Apache than on a Pulsar NS200 for two major reasons - the slightly more forward posture and the lack of a 6th gear to cruise in a relaxed manner.

It's been over 6 years since I bought my RTR 160 and even to this day, I try upshifting from 5th gear every so often.

The new RTR 160 is vastly smoother to ride than the 2015 model (which I have), with nearly 70% drop in vibes all around. Just wish they equip it with a cruising gear for the short road trips the target demography is bound to take.

re: TVS Apache RTR 165 RP launched at Rs. 1.45 lakh

Why TVS?

The RTR200 is cheaper than this, makes more power at lower RPMs, also comes with adjustable front suspension and bluetooth enabled console.

I like the colour scheme though.

When can we have the RTR2004VRP?

Possibly because of the exclusivity.

Still doesn't make sense to pay more for this when a better product from the same maker exists side by side.

If they'd have made an RP edition for the RTR200 though, that would've set some hearts racing.

Wow! this is the first time I am witnessing a manufacturer go all-out to get a Sports variant. Usually, all that we get are some flashy sticker-job or paint-job. A bump in engine capacity and power? I am impressed!

It looks as though TVS has moved towards launching a top of the line Race Performance version of their bikes and the 165 RP is just the first of many new refreshes. Ill take bumped up power, engine modifications and better looking graphics any day over stock motorcycles. Like drt_rdr, I too am looking forward to their RTR 200 RP and even the RR 310 RP.

It will be exclusive and feel of riding this and 200 will be totally different due to different piston and state of tune.

re: TVS Apache RTR 165 RP launched at Rs. 1.45 lakh

Yes, I can imagine it'll be a different experience. If it makes peak power at 10,000 rpm, the rev limiter will probably be at 12k. That would make for a nice screamy ride.

The bike is also 4 or 5 kg lighter than the RTR200. I also like the handlebar on this more than the clip ons on the RTR200.

I'm curious to see how close it can get to the RTR200.
